Zona Gonna Try Him (JG at QB)

JG was "All Vol" while he was here. He gave his all every game, it was not his fault that the offense tried to throw the ball down the field which required the offensive line to actually block someone which they were not capable of doing.

I think I watched a different team than you did. Even when he had time he couldn’t make reads or decisions. I could understand if he was yanked and never got a chance to develop but it was the exact opposite of that. If anything he was given too many chances. Every coach he had was patient with him and given that he was a high character guy I’m sure that played into it. I hate it for him and we can wax philosophy all day but the tape and the numbers tell the story. That being said if he turns into a career backup I’ll be happy for him

I respect the kid for giving his all. He seems like a great young man.
However, I’ll be shocked if he even plays a snap in an NFL game unless they’re swarmed with injuries at the QB position.
He’s just not a very good QB at this level.

The real shock is that an NFL coach who knows more than any of us self-styled experts here sees something in him that says he's potentially salvageable. Now, isn't that just plain out-and-out horrible?

Umm, and uh, I guess JG in a UT dorm basement manufactured the Rona, infected the nation, and brainwashed the Washington State coach to refuse to follow WSU policy and get vaccinated. Yep, must be JG's fault that coach got fired. Just as it was JG's fault the Pruittian regime got fired for trying to Bama-ize the UT program. That darn JG is no doubt guilty, no doubt he prompted Putin to invade Ukraine, darn bassard.

He was guilty of throwing three interceptions in one game at Washington State including a game winning pick six for Oregon State or some other weak opponent and so ended his storybook career at WSU. He can't play qb. He should not be discussed in the same conversation that includes the qb position. His stats and charts the last year he was here had him ranked in the bottom 5 in the NCAA - there really is no way to defend him -

I’m aware of the situation Woodsman. What I did say was a fact though. Didn’t say he was the reason. Try to relax, I’m rooting for him .

Maybe you are, but when post something like:
RDU VOL#14 said: Every single coaching staff he played for in college was fired.

You are de facto blaming him for things beyond his control. There's no other way to interpret such a statement. But relax, bub, I have an inherit tendency to vouch for underdogs, after all, I'm a Vols fan.

Lol, okay bud.

We all saw him make some bone headed decisions that wasn’t the coaching staff’s fault.

Dude isn’t a good QB. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

You can't read very well, can you? But that's OK, that's JG's fault too. Such a bassard, you know.

NFL HC who got fired from Texas Tech…his alma mater? And making a NFL camp isn’t a coronation…heard it here first.

If nothing else you have to respect JG for all the serious beatings that he took and still got back up and tried to play.

People like to say that someone is as tough as a nail but sometimes JG made a nail look wimpy.

I hope he gets his chance and does really well.

If he does well then everyone will love it if it gets mentioned on TV that he played at Tennessee.

VFL...GBO!!!
Hope he somehow does well.

He has my respect for the beatings he took. Kid should’ve never been the starter but somehow we never could get a better qb on the roster.

I will never understand the hate that JG gets here.

It's not his fault that Pruitt trotted him out there even though he never should have and it is Butch's fault that he took the beatings early in his time here.

I honestly think that it is all in his head and that he is most likely a much better QB than he showed on the field, but his confidence was shot with all the big hits he took early.

In a nutshell, I blame both Butch and Pruitt for his issues and JG is just a victim of circumstances and got way too much hate for it.

This is pretty much how I feel too. The fan base directed the hate towards the wrong person. When JG was consistently playing bad, Pruitt should have known he needs to sit for a while. What was he supposed to say when he was named the starter again and again? “No thanks coach. I know I’m on scholarship but nah, start someone else”

Pruitt should have started Chryst in 2018. JG should have sat and learned behind him. I think we would all have a different perception of JG had that been the case.

Or we COULD but DIDN’T?

The bottom 20 or so in 90 man NFL camps are warm bodies. They are usually invited as a favor to an agent, a college coach, etc. Occasionally, these guys play themselves into a practice squad spot and in the extremely rare cases, a roster spot. In most cases, the bottom 20 will be using this exposure to get their next shot (AFL, CFL, XFL, etc).

I wish JG the best and hope he can take advantage of this opportunity to make some $$$ playing football at whatever level it may be...

His draft write up is accurate
Shows solid accuracy when throwing on the move. - Good athleticism. Movement passing game is wide open: Boots, Waggles, Sprint Out passing, etc. - Much more consistent when operating off of playaction. - Has made improvements year over year, when awarded extended, consistent reps... Doesn’t see the field particularly well. Throwing over the middle of the field can be a challenge. - He has a tendency to see an open receiver late, which invites a beat defender back into the play. - Accuracy/placement tends to wane deeper down the field. - Arm strength could be best described as adequate.

I agree. That said, I sincerely believe JG got benefits from Butch, and had that hanging over UT's head. That's the only logical thing that explains why they'd keep trotting him out there, especially after some of his games.

Bone headed player who made more mistakes than great plays, and his career numbers show it (he played forever). He really did get a raw deal throughout college with all the coaching turnover he went through, injuries, and a poor offensive scheme and line. Probably has some PTSD.

He's getting his shot an I wish him the best, but probably won't make the cut IMO.

Tennessee has a great history of putting quarterbacks in the league. Matt Simms, Tyler Bray, Joshua Dobbs, and now Jarrett Guarantano.
