Zimmerman Trial

Do they try 17 year olds as children? No way. If TM was on trial the prosecution would try him as an adult.

He would be tried as an adult for killing someone, yes. But he is the victim in this situation, so he's a child.

17 is a minor unless said minor commits a grievous act. Just the way the law works.

Or the jury is simply stalling to make it look like they care before letting him off? Who knows.

Lol. That was my first thought after a couple days in the trial. 5 min in - So.....Not guilty, right? Yep. Ok, let's wait a long, long time to "Decide". However, I don't think that's the case. Blah.

I'm not sure that I, as a juror in a trial that has already taken so long, would want to drag it out any further if the jury had already come to a consensus.

Before meltdown begins, no one knows why the jury hasn't made their decision yet. For all we know, they may have decided that they had to at least give it a night to sleep on in order to be fair to both Trayvon and Zimmerman. Maybe they already have their minds made and don't want the media to attack them for making their decision's too fast. Or maybe there are a few holdouts that believe Zimmerman's actually guilty. No one knows.

True, the Defense probably wanted a quick verdict and I bet they are nervous, but this isn't a normal case by any means. So we can speculate all day and night, but only those 6 jurors know what's going on in that room.

I just don't see how anyone can say they have no doubt that Zimmerman did not believe he was in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm when he shot Trayvon. So, even if the emotional arguments by the prosecutors worked I don't see how it could have worked on all 6 of the jurors. So, I think a hung jury is the worst case scenario, but I still think he gets the not guilty verdict because self-defense is an absolute defense to murder 2 and manslaughter.

Got a hung jury then.

Already hung from the get go IMO.

"Juror B51 is single and retired from her job as a business manager overseeing 1,200 employees at a call center. In her job she became experienced with changing her mind when presented with new facts. She spends her free time visiting family. After initially hearing news of the shooting, she told the judge, she was surprised that a neighborhood watch program would have someone taking as active a role as Zimmerman. She said Zimmerman was in the wrong when he ignored a dispatcher's instruction to not follow Martin. "He didn't wait and the rest. We know what happened," she said."

Sure you would. Your personal beliefs about firearms ownership would cloud the issue and that's the only piece of the pie you would be interested in.

GZ is already guilty in your mind because he owns that devastating of all devices. An instrument that expels a projectile by the action of an explosive. And furthermore, decided to use it to save his life as he perceived it.

Jury drag this out about 5 days to make some extra cash. They making what, $20 per day. That will make them an extra $100.00.
Making that kind of money why should they rush to a verdict.

Dosn't cover my beer money.

But hey, they may get free booze being sequestered?

My beliefs don't play into what I said at all.

Regardless of the case or how I felt about the issue, I would be livid if the jury reached a consensus and yet decided to prolong my already lengthy status as a sequestered juror just to put on a front. I'm not putting up with additional sequestration if we all agree, and I don't think anyone else on this jury would either.
