Zimmerman Trial

He had a few abrasions on one hand, knuckles I think.

I just asked that because the state is trying to say Trayvon was the one screaming and calling out for help. If that were the case, I would expect there to be injuries.

There were no marks on Trayvon Martin, except for a few abrasions on one hand and the gun shot wound.

If this is the case, then we are truly no longer living in a republic where justice stands firm. We have transitioned into an anarchist's and terrorist dream where violence and threats of violence will usurp law.

I can sincerely hope justice will be done and we are not heading down this path.

I just got away from an encounter with a lynch mob on another site. For those who think of me as a liberal, you got no clue. Those "poor Trayvon" people were so sick that they defy my vocabulary.

Not sure how the trial itself would divide on political lines.

Might not be the case when it comes to the issue of gun rights and state gun laws. But the trial?

Not political lines but if GZ is convicted it is open season on law abiding citizens in FL. No one will be safe from prosecution for defending themselves or their property.

I consider them to be intertwined. In this case gun politics is at the heart of the matter. If stand your ground laws with firearms can be challenged, how does that affect the remainder of the CCW carriers in the State? Or around the nation for that matter.

I can see how the debate of current gun laws may more closely divide down political lines.

But I still don't understand how the trial can. The only laws that matters are the ones that were on the books when the alleged offense occurred. It would seem to me that, regardless of your political leanings, you'd expect the accused to only be found guilty if the state met the burden of proof.

Perhaps I'm missing something.

<snipped for length>

Perhaps I'm missing something.

Only the political influence, the spineless judge and the mob rule calling for justice without any evidence based on media portrayals of a "sweet innocent boy coldly murdered by a white man."

Gun politics can and will be used in this case. Remember when Florida passed their CCW laws? Suddenly became the "Gunshine State." And you don't think there are a bunch of liberal politicians waiting for the end of this trial to try to repeal the stand your ground laws? I'm on my mobile and can't really search, but I think a couple already tried. SYG and gun politics are intertwined with this case. They tend to go hand in hand with each other.

No doubt about it, this case was 100% ginned up to inflame race relations to fire up the base for the 2012 election. Gun politics were just the cherry on top

Nah, we're just headed for a time when, if some have their way, if you aren't a government employee the only way to justify knowing your life was in danger is if someone's already killed you, at least outside of your own home. Fat lot of good that'll do you but hey, the State will make a grand show of bringing justice to your killer...assuming they catch him.

Actually what you bring up is intersting in SYG being so often cited surrounding a case that has jack to do with standing one's ground. (Zimmerman "stand your ground") brings up over 7 million Google hits) Smells a bit like variation of the old "never waste a good crisis" theme.

The last three presidents should have told you that.

And don't you worry, the liberals will rehabilitate your killer instead of frying him so that he can be turned loose to be a productive citizen.

Defense case so far:

Everyone other than Martin's brother and mother thinks it was Zimmerman screaming for help on the 911 call.
