Zimmerman Trial

ACTUAL TRIAL POST:

The judge should not allow this evidence about Zimmerman's course work. It's irrelevant, especially given the fact that the Defense is not arguing that the shooting fell under the Stand Your Ground law.

I'd wondered from the outset what all the histrionics about SYG had to do with this case. Once Zimmerman's story about what happened came out (whether you believed it or not) it never looked like a SYG argument. All I can figure is most of it involved people who had no idea what the SYG laws entailed or were outright pushing an agenda to try to weaken those laws.

It doesn't take being a keyboard warrior to call out someone for being a petty smartass over the internet.

It might be different if anything you posted was, you know, funny.

If you're the one saying I'm digging myself into an illogical hole, I'm okay with that. You're kind of the pariah on here, and that really takes a special person.

This special..

The SYG argument was a media creation used to make it appear that Zimmerman killed Martin in cold blood. To argue SYG would indicate that Martin never laid a hand on Zimmerman, since Zimmerman never gave him the chance. Under the law, Zimmerman could have shot Martin if he felt threatened, but the media narrative is substantially different if a physical confrontation never occurred.

As much as it pains me I gave you a like on that in regards to SYG.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, because I certainly think I'm ****ing clever.

Looks like NBC is still trying to misrepresent the case in its reporting. Maybe the prosecution got Osterman to agree to something like this, but I thought it was clear that Zimmerman stopped following Martin as soon as the dispatcher told him it was not necessary, that he stayed in that same area and just tried to observe from a distance and get a street address. Is this really what Osterman said?

"Zimmerman then called a non-emergency police line to report a suspicious person, following Martin despite non-emergency personnel saying it wasn’t necessary for him to do so, Osterman said."

It is truly scary what the media can do with public perception at this point. I actually had a brief "which do you think is/was worse" conversation recently regarding the Zimmerman case vs the Duke lacrosse case. The cases themselves are very different but how the media treated both is jaw-droppingly awful.

Oh God, West might be stepping in it here. He's asking whether or not SYG applies outside the home. WHY?

What Zimmerman is claiming would be considered self-defense in any state in the Union. SYG has nothing to do with this, and West needs to avoid tainting the jury with this information.

West is a freaking idiot. He should let O'Mara handle the rest of the trial. Why would you get into this detail about Stand Your Ground when your case is not based around that law?

And of course SYG applies outside the home. In fact, in a Castle Doctrine state, the SYG/no duty to retreat part of it is basically superfluous if the incident takes place inside one's home.

Still, as you pointed out, WTH is the point of bringing SYG up in a case where it doesn't apply?

CNN, Fox and MSNBC all showing live coverage of the Zimmerman Trial...pathetic .

Just getting everyone ready for the riots. GZ gets convicted they gonna riot. GZ gets off they gonna riot. Its lose/lose for Sanford and probably many other urban areas.

I turn this stuff completely off. I watch later at night to see the days results or what's said at trial. I never watched the Casey Anthony trial either because of all the 24 hour coverage. I find it rather stupid to cover this 24 hours a day.

You don't think Hispanics will take to the streets and loot stores in their own neighborhood?

No because remember, Zimmerman is a white guy in this instance! This is a white race crime!

Zimmerman is screwed either way. If he doesn't get convicted he'll probably get shot/stabbed by someone in a few days/weeks since whatever news agency it was put his personal info/home address across the tv.

Actually he was screwed from the beginning when NBC edited the 911 phone call leaving out the operator's question of what does Martin look like/race to make it sound like Zimmerman was suspicious only because Martin was a black kid.

I mean I for one think Zimmerman should do a couple of years for being a complete moron and ultimately confronting somebody and getting his tail whipped.

Clearly it wasn't a murder and he wasn't targeting minorities, but he is a total moron.

I would contend there is more evidence that TM confronted (at the very least) GZ than the other way around.* There's a reason the prosecution is having a rough go of things.

*Granted, even if TM did initiate the final confrontation it doesn't mean GZ didn't handle it horribly but that is total speculation.

The hispanics I work with seem to think he is white even though I am pretty sure his doppelganger is sitting in the same room as me right now.
