Zimmerman Trial

I know some of y'all are calling him a thug. A good friend of mine who happens to be white told me that him and his buddy's drank more whiskey, smoked more dope, robbed folks, fought like cats and dogs just all types of crazy ish and he never got called a thug. But they did get called stupid ass rednecks. Kids of all races get into crap they shouldn't get into. I imagine all of us on this board has got into some mess we wasn't suppose to At one time in our lives. Does that make us thugs? No.

For the record I'm not making a race issue but 9 times out of 10 when a young black male gets into mess he's labeled a thug.
Your white buddy was a thug. Anyone that robs people and starts fights is a thug.

The fact that he didn't say "He IS black" leads me to believe it was much less racially motivated than has been reported. He said "He looks black" which is nuanced, but it suggest that he may not be black, but was suspicious nonetheless.

I bet our boy Tray-Tray was stanky legging around the block.

My alarm clock is set to the Steve Harvey show (hey it wakes me up so back off).

Needless to say, he did not agree with the verdict. The part I heard between hitting the snooze alarm was about how all the cops in the trial lied to help the defense because GZ's daddy must be some powerful man that made a call to the DA and police...

And crap like this needs to be called out, because guys like Harvey spewing this crap is just making things worse.

This is why I don't buy the BS talk from celebrities and public figures like Harvey because instead of talking about healing, open dialogue, etc, they throw out how everything was racist about it and ridiculous theories that only fuel the fire of impressionable audiences.

I'm so sick of media people on both sides of issues whipping their audiences into frenzies over (usually) very bad or biased information.

It doesn't matter if he was profiled or not. If any kind of civil rights case it brought upon gz, it would be crazy, and if somehow gz lost that trial, it would give the race card extreme power. Think of it like this, this would mean that anytime a black is pulled over, caught for stealing, or anything , they could say they were profiled because they were black. You can't prove someone profiles, so everyone would say they were profiled if gz loses a civil case for that

Actually seemed, at least at first, a bit uncertain on race. He saw plenty of other things that made him suspicious. (make of that what you will)

Suspicious people are suspicious...from what I know (which is just as limited as everyone else) the fact that TM was black looks wildly overplayed IMHO.

That call, the edited one played by the news, is the thing that set this all off.

They made it sound like he was targeting this kid solely because he was black. It put the thoughts of racism in people's mind, and there was nothing that could have been done to remove it.

They knew exactly what they were doing when they edited that tape.

You guys keep referring to MSNBC as having played the edited tape, but I am pretty sure it was NBC that did it. I'm still not entirely sure of their corporate relationship.

Speculation on my part but if the kid was white, wearing Dockers and a polo shirt he may not have seemed as suspicious.

Also, if the kid was white, wondering around in a hoodie, in the rain, he would have been reported for being suspicious.

Zimmerman was white-hispanic so he could easily rule out 2 of the 3.

Mr Mod sir, Would it be okay if I started a Zimmerman/TM thread ?

We are around 10 threads now. We need plenty of places to talk about this case. :)

According to the media, this is:

I don't see how from that images you can say you feared for you life.

Because you can be killed from a single punch, nitwit. The danger is even higher if they're on top of you over concrete.

Haha okay. How many people do you know personally that have been killed by one punch?

You can be killed driving a car or riding in trains as well but that doesn't mean I feel as if my life is in danger.

So now you are saying that in every single fight you have the ability to shoot somebody because technically your life is in danger?

Have you watched any news at all lately? And what the hell does it matter if I know anyone personally that has? Just because I don't know people killed by one punch doesn't magically make it not happen. What a childish argument.

If someone is on top of you displaying intent to hit you, and then actually hitting you in the head, that's a dangerous situation. Most people would be pretty scared for their lives.

there's 38 other threads on the Zimmerman trial. Can't we keep this separate?

Good point. However, his one punch leads to death comment could be a slippery slope.

Just start shooting people every time you get hit because you read a story once where a drunk guy died after hitting his head on a curb.

It used to be people killing others for their Jordan's.
