Ziegler > Gillespie

Ziegler played with heart and fire.

A true leader and an ambassador for Tennessee basketball.

Gillespie looks like he’s just out there playing for a paycheck.

His effort in the final minutes was very poor.
Welcome to the world of modern college sports. The true VFLs are a thing of the past now. If you are thinking of blaming this loss solely on Gillespie then you don’t watch it.

No where in my post was I solely blaming Gillespie for the loss.

However, his careless turnovers during the final minutes pretty much killed all the momentum we had to close out the game.

My point is its not fair to compare the two. ZZ had several years to develop here. Barnes chose not to recruit Gillespie out of HS or when he went to Maryland. Gillespie wasn't good enough today, and neither was the whole freaking team. They look like they don't care and to lose to uk like that at home makes me sick.

CRB recruited JG hard last year but JG wouldn’t come to back up ZZZ.

Gill wouldve been a great 2 with a 1 like ZZ. Gill just doesnt make good enough decisions to leave it up to him. He hasnt made good, late game, decisions all year. Thats why Barnes shouldve called the TO with 40 seconds to go.

ZZ was a great player. He also had a lot more talent around him. He was never the first option to score as well as be the pg. He had Chandler his freshman year. He had Vescovi, JJJ his sophomore year. Knect his junior year, and Lanier his senior year. All of those guys were 22 or 23 years old, other than Chandler. Comparing the two makes no sense. JG has an 18 year old Ament as the only other player looking to shoot. JG has more responsibility on him than anyone I can remember.
Plus, he’s not a point guard!

He is scared to give the ball to anyone else and tries to force things. Who is the go to guy on this team?

Zakai had that "Everyone says I'm too short to succeed in college basketball, but I'll show 'em" mindset as a motivating factor.
Gillespie doesn't have that going for him.

We can talk about Gillespie all we want but without(turnovers or not) him, this team isn't even average. I loved Zakai but he also at times was loose with the ball. Gillespie does have some pieces around him, Barnes just is too stubborn to play them good minutes. I mean Evans. He has a good offensive game and he can rebound and defend. Boswell is the one that needs to come out.

Gillespie is playing for a coach who had the PG anchor his team and command the floor for 4 years. Gillespie is not that guy. At Maryland, that was Derrick Queen’s team. He was the voice of the team.

Growing pains for everyone.
