ZERO Vols on Preseason All-SEC List

Hopefully this is some good internal motivation for some of the guys. If anything, I see it as a good thing for where are program is right now. We want our guys awake, hungry, and on a mission to prove themselves and earn respect.

Yes, aside from Alonte, Butili, and D. Taylor, we currently don't have many guys to push for pre-season honors. But, I still think we have some decent talent returing and incoming freshman who I hope will force themselves into consideration with end-of-the-year honors.

Offense
JG
Calloway as a receiver
Juan Jennings
Wood-Anderson
Ty Chandler

Defense
Alonte
Butili
D. Taylor
Aubrey Solomon (hopefully)

Freshman Team Hopefuls
Wanya Morris
Darnell Wright
Henry Toto
R Keyton
Q. Couch
Tyus Fields
J Muccollough

If all of these guys can show some improvement and/or are being considered for end of the season accolades we will be in great shape for the future. Its not all about wins and losses as much as it is about player development and improvement.

I knew we had talent problems but had no idea it was to this extent. We only have one more player recognized than Austin Peay does. Let that sink in a minute.

This will be different in four months. But unfortunately, Bama is going to steamroll through their schedule again. Unreal.

Odd considering Darrell Taylor is the SEC’s returning sack leader.
Yeah, it's weird, as soon as that list comes out, there's all the "watch lists", where we've got at least 4 players on them...you'd figure someone on a "watch list" would at least make a 3 deep All SEC list. I'm not real surprised, but Taylor, Bituli, DWA, and maybe Calloway, you'd think would at least be on 3 deep.

Yes. This is three years in a row that UT has been conspicuously absent from the list. Some say it's irrelevant, as it is based on past performance and that it has nothing to do with this year. I would gladly trade the "chip" for 20 or even 10 players on the list, as Alabama and Georgia respectively have this year.

The Vols having no picks in the Pre-season poll is indicitive of a team in the lower part of the SEC east, unfortunately.
Tennessee will need a little Luck and for the ball to bounce their way, if the Vols are to finish in the top half of the SEC East

Bama with 6 guys on 1st team offense and 4 on 1st team defense. Insane.

They have great players on roster top to bottom, I'm sure their 2nd team players could start @most any other school in country, I wish some were playing
for VOLS...………………...

I could name about five worth of all sec honors but how does the returning sack leader in the sec get snubbed in Darrel Taylor?
I think this pretty much explains it. Top returning sack leader is kinda fools gold when you look at his game log from last year.....lotta zeros in most of the games....

Maybe that's a good thing.
A Vol with a chip on his shoulder is a dangerous animal.
With all due respect, a chip on one’s shoulder means little to nothing when you’re not talented or good enough to do anything about it. I’m certain Tennessee players have been doubted and disrespected a lot over the last decade to the point that they could’ve had a chip the size of Montana on their collective shoulders....hasn’t meant ish to this point.

IF he plays, big IF. Very few doctors would clear him. NFL tackle just retired because of blood clots, or rather was forced to.
I sincerely hope he doesn’t try to play. He’s already had two times where he’s had to stop playing because of this medical issue which is extremely dangerous to his health and mortality. His life is far more important and valuable than shoring up the left side of our offensive line. I know it’s up to him, his father and his physicians, but I hope they come to this same conclusion at the end of the day.

These lists are lazy. They just pick the standout contributors from last season and fill the rest with Alabama's roster.

What if playing football does NOT increase his risk of blood clot. Still quit?

Until they kick the ball off.

Then, it’s pretty damn relevant
These pre-season teams are seldom accurate reflections of the post season teams.... and those who create them are never held accountable for their inaccuracy. UT has several players who if they have a good year can make a post-season all SEC team... the one actually based on performance. One that could come out of nowhere from the perspective of the media is Dominick Woods-Anderson. Chaney is known for finding playmakers and building the O to take advantage of them. DWA is a guy with enough talent to do really big things.

Rick Barnes did it in his 2nd year...hope Pruitt can too.

They should be pretty much past the phase of "Yeah...you did that when CBJ was the coach...don't do that ANY MORE".
I'm hoping for a more Saban like pattern. In year one at Bama, he basically had to deal with the bad attitudes and poor development he inherited. It was openly reported that some of the holdovers weren't excited about playing for him. There were open confrontations and a subsequent purging.

We will see if Pruitt gets a similar second year bump. He was a step behind in year one.

So, if players have a good year, they can make an all conference team?

Doesn’t that apply to everyone?
