That 0-11 South Carolina team lost to east Carolina. This Vandy team just played a 9 game all SEC schedule during COVID. The competition was weaker for South Carolina and they didn’t have to deal with COVID.

That was before their player exodus. The one we played tonignt may legitimately be the worst SEC team in relation to the rest of the league, ever.

Fine, we will say 1934 Sewanee was worse. They lost all their SEC games by similar or slightly worse margins than this Vandy team. Granted I'm not sure if half their team got hurt or quit before the season ended.

Tennessee is only 12-10 all time verses Sewanee. And there was a time when they were Robert Neyland worthy football (read below):

Nov. 9, 1899: Sewanee 12, Texas 0
Nov. 10, 1899: Sewanee 10, Texas A&M 0
Nov. 11, 1899: Sewanee 23, Tulane 0
Nov. 13, 1899: Sewanee 34, LSU 0
Nov. 14, 1899: Sewanee 12, Ole Miss 0
Those are not misprints. Nor are the scores of Sewanee's seven other wins that year -- all but one by shutout -- giving the team a 12-0 record, the distinction "Champions of the South," the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association title, and the right to be known as the "Iron Men" -- one of the most accomplished college teams ever.

It didn't stop there. Ten years later Sewanee claimed another SIAA title, the school's third. Consistent winning lasted into the 1920s, and the school even amassed winning all-time records over some of today's college football stalwarts.

Against LSU: 6-3. Auburn: 7-4-1. Ole Miss: 8-6-1. Both Georgia and Georgia Tech: 7-5-1.

And yet ...

"There is zero probability," Sewanee athletic director Mark Webb said with a laugh, "of us ever playing them again."

We just had better talent on the field. Our performance was crappy. It's an ugly win that the scoreboard made to look pretty.

We put up 540 yards of offense and made Vandy one dimensional on offense. They only had 53 yards rushing. Without that horrible fumble call that should have been an incomplete pass and the score is much worse. We handled them the way we should have. We got lots of players in game experience.

This game by no means washes away how horrible this season has been. It is just a win against a team we should have won. The game wasn’t close and we got to see some young talent perform. Hyatt, Small, and Beckwith look promising.

My take aways from the game are this. We won and in a way that we should have won. The game wasn’t close at all. Be upset with that if you want but I am going take it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad for the W but if we hadn't made Vandy one dimensional then we are worse than anyone thought. We put up numbers yes and scored points yes but we were 2-9 on third downs offensively. Our offense is still not where it should be getting better but still way behind. Defensively we had 2 sacks on a small offensive line and freshman QB, one Int and still got passed on like an ugly girl at a dance. If Vandy would have had an o line to stop pressure they would have had a whole lot more passing yards. Like I said. Glad for the W but the final outcome should have been the first half score.

Wow you are really something. Their QB spent most of the day getting up off the turf. He got rid of the ball before we could get to him. He threw more balls out of bounds than to his receivers. I am not sure what you expect. If he throws the ball away you can't sack him. SMH

Our d-line was in Seals' face all day. We also had several TFL's, and interfered with their running game, all day. A pick 6, a few tipped balls, and constant pressure from the front four was a big help. Of course, it was against a depleted Vandy 0-line. But, to Seals' credit, he was pretty good at moving around and getting rid of the ball, for a TRUE FRESHMAN.
Does it translate against A&M? No. A&M's o-line is the best in the nation. Period. Plus, Mond will escape, and hurt you. But, we cannot cover their receivers all day. We will be forced to gamble, but mix it up. Mond will occasionally fire up a prayer, into coverage. We have to win those battles, and make the most of EVERY OPPORTUNITY. A&M will own time of possession, against anyone. They are methodical, and surgical, and very comfortable, doing what they do. We have to start fast, and get them behind the chains, early, or it will be a long and boring game.

A&M is a team with an identity. UT is still searching for it.
A&M:
Run the damn ball
Be smart
Protect the ball
Possess the ball
Win time of possession
Move the chains
3rd and manageable
Limit opponent's possessions
Score on every possession, or at least change field position
It's ok to punt
Win the field position game
Spread the wealth
Take your shots
Stop the run
Cause TO's
Force 3rd and long
Get off the field on 3rd down(Best 3rd down defense in the SEC)
Be in a place to win in the 4th quarter
These are all the things that CJP tries to accomplish, at UT. But, Jimbo has nearly perfected it, at A&M.
They really aren't a high scoring offense. But they are efficient.
The only blowout was at USCjr. They ran the ball so well, that USCjr had to commit extra players to the run, and Mond hit some deep shots on them.
