Hunter was headed to LSU - he wasn't on the radar with Kiffin and has made it clear that Dooley was a big factor. Regardless, I'll agree that I'd rather have 4* and 5* if you guys will agree that none of us knows how many of each we will ultimately get and if you will agree that no coach anywhere signs only 4* and 5*. And if he were able to, you can be fairly certain that it wouldn't be on the heels of two seasons and two coaching changes like we've just had. Noone anywhere has ever done that or anything approaching it.
I agree with you that I'd rather sign 25 5* every year. Just don't think that's realistic and think that it's especially unrealistic when we are coming off of the last 3-4 years that we've had. I think the argument most are making is that 3* can be very good football players (over half of the All Americans last year were 3* or lower. So, it's just as foolish to say 3* can't play as to say they are as good as 5*, on average)
If you are simply saying that you'd rather have only 4* and 5*, then great, I'm with you. (I'd also like Jessica Biel to swing by for a couple hours three times a week, btw.) If you are suggesting that if we had only gotten so-and-so to coach, we'd have 25 solid 4* and 5* commitments right now and have them all be 5* by signing day, then I'll have to disagree. Never seen anything like that happen anywhere, ever. And have never seen anything remotely approach it at a school following two bad seasons and two coaching changes.
