Zero 4* and Zero 5* players

I dont think his defense had anything to do with the TD Oklahoma's defense scored either. They gave up 28 points on defense in regulation and scored a TD of their own. Id say they had SOMETHING to do with it.

Funny how four and five star players suddenly aren't important when everybody realizes we aren't getting them. If three stars are just as good, why do all the top programs and coaches recruit them? Get real, people. Excellence is the standard at UT.

All of this.

When did you discover that 'we aren't getting them'? I was fairly certain that we got Da' Rick Rogers and Justin Hunter, to name just a couple in the '10 class. Noone has any 4* or 5* for the '11 class - June commitments don't mean squat. If you know for sure who we'll sign for '11, please provide a list. Noone has said 3* are just as good - we are mostly saying let the process play out.

If you can't list our '11 class, then apparently you're certain from the #9 class from '10 that we are forever doomed.

Hunter was coming here no matter who the head coach was. As far as no one saying 3* are just as good, that's what this whole thread is about. An attempt to spin getting 3* into a good thing.

Hunter was headed to LSU - he wasn't on the radar with Kiffin and has made it clear that Dooley was a big factor. Regardless, I'll agree that I'd rather have 4* and 5* if you guys will agree that none of us knows how many of each we will ultimately get and if you will agree that no coach anywhere signs only 4* and 5*. And if he were able to, you can be fairly certain that it wouldn't be on the heels of two seasons and two coaching changes like we've just had. Noone anywhere has ever done that or anything approaching it.

I agree with you that I'd rather sign 25 5* every year. Just don't think that's realistic and think that it's especially unrealistic when we are coming off of the last 3-4 years that we've had. I think the argument most are making is that 3* can be very good football players (over half of the All Americans last year were 3* or lower. So, it's just as foolish to say 3* can't play as to say they are as good as 5*, on average)

If you are simply saying that you'd rather have only 4* and 5*, then great, I'm with you. (I'd also like Jessica Biel to swing by for a couple hours three times a week, btw.) If you are suggesting that if we had only gotten so-and-so to coach, we'd have 25 solid 4* and 5* commitments right now and have them all be 5* by signing day, then I'll have to disagree. Never seen anything like that happen anywhere, ever. And have never seen anything remotely approach it at a school following two bad seasons and two coaching changes.

Hunter was a Vol a good week before the previous staff left for USC. It was widely known a switch was coming. Hubbs even said Hunter was going to be a Vol no matter who they hired to replace Kiffin. The track coach did almost all of the recruiting.

Obviously. But to act like Wilcox's defense had anything to do with it is crazy talk.

Memory problems? I simply asked if it was his defense playing that game. To win a game in football you score more then your opponent. That's what happened, end of story.

Don't ruin the biggest misconception on VN

I agree with the OP 100%. We have had higher rated players then Boise for quite some time and Wilcox beat them with his guys so he can do it with ours
