Zee Spearman at FIBA 3x3

I have watched a lot of USA 3x3 and today Lazaria Spearman looked as fluid playing in the paint/out on the perimeter as a 6’4 post player that you’ll find in the women’s game. She has improved tremendously as a complete basketball player since transferring to Tennessee to play for Coach Caldwell. I’m absolutely thrilled at the progress that Zee has made on and off the court. She is a pro no doubt about it.
GBO🍊.

Next two games are Friday 10PM and then at (technically Saturday) 12:30AM EST. If we win either, we're guaranteed into the bracket portion.

If we lose both, then Chile's vs. Mexico @3AM will decide whether Chile or the US gets in. (unless Philippines beats both Mexico and Spain AND scores 9+ more points than the US does on day 2, which isn't likely)

a player doesn't have a second to reflect on a mistake. Each of the US players had some excellent moments/plays and some misdeeds. Zee is like 1 for 6 in free throws. wonder is the ball is larger than the us women's college ball came to mind. overall fun to watch

Yes. Her stroke at the FT line looked mentally rushed. Maybe with first day jitters behind her, she'll settle in.

"Tennessee's Zee Spearman and her United States teammates split a pair of games on day two of the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup in Xiong'an China, finishing second in Pool B action with a 3-1 mark behind Spain (4-0), USA advances to the quarterfinal round of bracket play, where it will meet the top team out of Pool D on Sunday. The Netherlands, it appears, will be the opponent. The official match-up and tip time will be announced later."

if you watch the Chile USA game you will see a player who throughout the game never gets a break on any call. That person is Zee and perhaps the adversity will be beneficial in future games. After being called for fouling every time a player drove, she just put her hands behind her back to prevent being called. Chile however had much more team experience in playing the game. fun to watch although very, tightly called.

Currently watching Zee’s game. They look bad. Zee doesn’t have the lateral quickness to keep up with the guards. Turning the ball over. Fouling.

They need to wrap this on up and get Zee back to Knoxville.

Lateral quickness remains, IMO, the physical factor that often separates the good players from the great players. Also IMO, lateral quickness is something that can be improved a little, but superior lateral quickness is one of those physical gifts a player is either born with, or not. Some may argue that anyone can become quicker, but I would argue that they might become slightly quicker, but that a naturally blessed player with quickness will beat them to the spots every time. Every physique doesn't have the same potential.

And yes, I'll be glad when Zee is safely back at home. I believe these experiences are good for her, though, so I'm happy for her she's having them. I can't wait to cheer her on this season.

Hmmmm, didn’t see any of this at all. The truth is Team USA 4 player roster lacked the versatile/skill guard play it usually consist of.
The guards weren’t effective at making 3s and penetrating to create for the posts.
The team was one athletic guard away from possibly winning a silver or gold medal.
Lazaria going into the final game had scored the 6th most points of any player in the entire field.
Her defense or quickness wasn’t an issue either.. the refs called too many ticky tack fouls and when there was real contact around the rim they barely even blew the whistle.
One thing is true just glad to see 3x3 is over and she gets ready to contend for a SEC & NCAA championship on a loaded team with 7 McDonald’s All-Americans projected as the preseason #6 team in WBB.
You can tell that the competition with the addition of two former McDonald’s All Americans and 5-star post players standing at 6’4 and 6’5 forming a trio with the 6’4 Spearman in Tennessee has helped Lazaria improve her game.

KnosLS I agree on the team lacking a Van Lith presence, 3 x 3 was a game in which she excelled slashing with head down.

to add to those who haven't watched the other national teams, several have played together for years and know their defensive and offensive tendencies.

and IMO the outcomes of games of several games were decided by the referees overly calling fouls, given the importance of fouls shots.

On the positive - the frantic constant requirement to play fluid defense can only benefit players returning to the college game, can't take a "possession" whatever that is in 3x3 off
