There's no middle ground. I don't hate Von Bell for picking Ohio State. He's a kid. Who knows what kind of influences he had pulling at him. However, I no longer care about him. I don't wish him well and I don't care if he has a successful future. That goes for all non-UT signees. I care about UT football and they chose to go somewhere else. End of story.

Also, I can't understand a kid saying he grew up a Vol fan and then signing to play football somewhere else. I'm calling BS. I grew up a Vol fan and there's no way I play football at another school. No way. Austin Sanders in a Vol fan. Brent Kendrick and Josh Smith are Vol fans. Ryan Jenkins is a Vol fan. When given the opportunity, they snapped it up. I'm not saying we need to fill our roster with 3* VFLs. We do need 4* and 5* kids that aren't Vol fans to come play for us. That being said, don't tell everybody you're a lifelong Vol fan and then sign with Ohio State. That crap doesn't play.

And I'm seriously tired of 'insiders'. After the Gruden debacle and this signing class, I no longer believe anybody on this board has a modicum of insider information. If you're wrong as much as you're right, how do we believe anything?

Thank God for the kids that chose to play for UT today. I'm very appreciative of their commitment and can't wait to see how they grow over the next 4 years. :good!:

Couldnt agree more man. Carl Lawson and Vonn Bell showed their true colors. I DONT wish them any luck or success. How can you honestly? They chi t on us...so why keep kissing their a zzes and wishing them luck?! They said screw UT...so I say screw them! Lawson was one thing, but Bells snub was so disrespectful its unbelievable.

I don't get it either. There's NO WAY he was a true Vol fan growing up & then go somewhere else to play FB when you had a chance to run thru that T!!! I don't wish him ill, but really don't care how he does since he forsook UT.

Lol at stupid people. I mean seriously, some people need a life lesson on what's truly important in life. I wish Vonn would have chosen UT, but he didn't. I will still cheer for the guy and hope he has a great career at Ohio St. My 7 year old son had surgery on his colon this past fall and Vonn was the first Ridgeland Panther to ask if he could join the team in the locker room before the Dalton game. He also signed a shirt for him and is always checking up on my son to see how he's doing. He signed his under armour all-star card and gave it to my son as well. He put in many hours with our local rec over the summer helping with our football camp and yes he does love UT, but it just wasn't the right place for him. He's a great kid and doesn't deserve all the hate he's getting here.

There are way too many pretentious football fans in this world. I honestly don't care about the recruiting results as long as the results for season are above .500.

Some of you guys are taking this way too personally. Again, I didn't say I hated the kid. I just said I don't care about him anymore. If you have a personal connection to Bell and his family, that's terrific. I don't. In my world, he's a Ohio State football player today. I don't care if he does well at OSU. I want UT to be SEC champions and I'm interested in kids that help us achieve that goal. That's all. No animosity towards Bell personally.

My only observation directed at Bell was regarding his stance as a 'life long UT fan'. I don't understand how a real fan can play for another school. My allegiances and heart don't work that way.

Agree wholeheartedly!!! I went to Von's signing link at oHIo. Kid say's right out why he chose to go there. His decision. That's fine. Hope we see them in a bowl an open a can of Big Orange Whoop Asz! It's college sports, not an alter call.

I've been perusing all the recruiting sites. I'm a fan of Butch Jones. I love his enthusiasm and effort. I don't care which site you prefer or how you slice and dice it, though, UT had a mediocre recruiting effort nationwide and a very subpar effort in the SEC. It may not be fair to CBJ but it's a fact. Numbers don't lie and we got our ass kicked by just about everybody.

Here's my open letter to Butch Jones before I check out this recruiting season:

"For whatever reason (Dooley or timing or whatever), you didn't "out recruit" the other guys in your conference ... you better be able to outcoach 'em or it will be a LONG year."

GBO.

I for one call BS on him being a lfe long Vol fan!! There is no way i could go play at any other school if Tennessee had offered me. Maybe i'm a little over the top on this but i can not see anyway possible a life long fan of the Vols can go elsewhere to play! Maybe his definition of being a life long fan is different than mine?

I hope we meet them in a bowl down the road and Maquez North and Paul Harris torch that ass for about 4 tds. That would be the ultimate payback!!

You are not over the top just a real fan unlike Vonn Bell.

Let me preface this by saying that don't blame this class on Butch, although he needs to do a lot better next year. The legacy class must be top five or GTFO.

That said, I cannot stand the whole "you can't be critical or you don't support the Vols and aren't a true fan" horsesh*t.

You get what you are willing to accept. Period.

The day it becomes acceptable to have the eleventh ranked class in the SEC is the day YOU are no longer a fan. Having the eleventh ranked class in the conference is not what being a Vol is about.

We have standards. Live up to them.

I agree with everything that you said. I will say this, however, with respect to so-called "insider" information. We are talking about people who are at an extraordinarily whimsical period of their lives. When you have kids with "Auburn" tattoos on their arms who sign with Alabama, you have to take all sources, however close to the situation they may be, with a grain of salt.

I agree, however, with your fundamental premise: If you are truly a Tennessee fan and have a scholarship offer to attend there, the decision is very, very easy. There simply are no other contenders. If Bell is as strong a UT fan as we have been lead to believe, the "relationship" he had with Urban Meyer and his staff should not matter; Butch Jones made it quite clear just how badly he wanted Bell to come to UT. The "too much ground for Coach Jones to make up" argument does not pass the "fishy smell" test.

So you not accepting our recruiting class this year does what exactly?
