You got a team that's hot this year but I'm not sold on their coaching. They will be good for awhile because of their recruiting success this year but I don't think they'll ever win the national championship.

Yeah, that coaching sure does suck doesn't it. I mean, a 2nd year head coach winning the SEC and making it to the playoffs doesn't mean anything does it??

I heard during a Ga game that they are losing 31 seniors. Add to that a few JRs who will probably declare for the draft (obviously Smith will). We will see just how good Smart is next year. Maybe we will be fools next year, but a little premature to crown him the next coming of Saban.

This also something I see on the message boards and its taken out of context. Less than half of those guys are starters. Most aren't even in the 2 deep. These are Richt's old players he recruited that didn't fit into Kirby's plan.

Do don't get your hopes up that UGA is in a rebuilding year next year. There will be some turn over on D but it's not a starting over year by any stretch.

7 starters on D not counting Thompson or Smith. Like I said, next year will tell the tale.

Anyone who wants to go somewhere else let them go. If they committed to a coach (particularly one that just presided over the worse season in history) instead of a school, we dont need them anyway.

Everything here I agree with. Let whoever doesn’t want to come to Tennessee go elsewhere and just leave them alone. Let’s worry about who does come here.

But let’s be clear, Mays didn’t commit here because of Jones, he decommited while Jones was still here, before that idiot was fired. As a matter of fact, I heard Doug Mathews say point blank that Jones and the direction the program was going because of him was why Cade de-committed in the first place.

At some point, Mays crossed Tennessee off the list, for whatever reason(s) he had, and nothing anybody said or did from that point on was gonna get him to consider Tennessee again.

I am happy with all the guys who signed with Tennessee today and don't GAF about anyone who didn't.

And I'm proud of coach Brian Niedermeyer for issuing the rally cry:

“Let it be known even if you say you LOVE the Vols if you ain’t with us you’re against us, period"

Tennessee assistant has message for any recruits that claim to love Vols but sign elsewhere

I can't think of anything more stupid then saying you love something while simultaneously rejecting it.

Mays also 'liked' the tweet from Adrian Martinez switching his commitment to Nebraska. That was a douche move.

I heard a man who’s son played with Cade at Catholic say he actually heard himself a “Vol” fan saying horrible things to CM after the Maryville game. I’m sure that’s true and the a Twitter bunch that said horrible things should FOREVER be band from enjoying college football....EVER...Of course we wanted CM ...but if you’re trying to figure out which direction to go that will effect the REST OF YOUR LIFE and some moron is saying trash in your 17 year old ear.... it’s going to have a huge impact....as far as the “Love for Vols” comments? I agree that was very poorly worded to say the least....

The East is so weak this year Ohio State could've probably even won it. Get back to me after we see them against Oklahoma. You won't be crowing so loudly. I just really hate to see one of our homegrown boys go play for the worst and most rude fanbase in the country. Ridiculous. I do not wish injury on the young man but I wish him nothing but failure and losses there.

Why don't we just admit we lost Mays because we suck? We "might" compete for the SEC East in what would be Cade's senior year or 4 years from now. He and his family know this and he wanted to go where he can compete for national titles before he graduates. You are a fool if you refuse to see what Kirby Smart is building right now, all in his 2nd year as a HC. UGA's Revenge Tour is 2 games away from winning a national championship with a freshman QB. They are SEC Champions and quite frankly, everyone else is in their rear view mirror. Meanwhile we can't even beat our big brother in Nashville. Yet another HC and another plan and another rebuild. Do you have the time and patience it is going to take to get back to being competitive in Knoxville? Go Vols.

THIS..
I not only put the loss of Cade on Butch, but Dooley and even Kiffin and the past three AD's. Had a guy, loved the VOLS growing up, and crashed and burned - zero and 8 in the SEC. Come on... How do you spin that? And look at some of the primadonna players that seem to have had attitudes - some left the team. The player development. Who knows, Butch might have tried to make a DE out of Mays.

UGA won SEC. Playing in championship tournament. Rich get richer and poor have babies (they say).

Having said all that, I think we are in good hands. Impossible to put out dumpster fire of this magnitude in one season - BUT.. I think we will be competitive as quick as possible. Future is brighter now that Butch is gone.

If he & his family knew this as you state & he wanted to compete for national titles before he graduates then he should have decomitted long before he did. The fact that he handled it the way he did (decommitting when TN needed him most) is why he will forever be booed when he steps inside Neyland as a pup. He was committed to TN for TWO YEARS before he decommitted & was considered a recruiting tool for TN until then. We must move on as he has but please don't make this a nonsensical argument! Last year, it was CRYSTAL CLEAR Butch Jones would not be the one having TN competing for championships. Losing to USCjr with the SEC East title on the line and then Vandy with the Sugar Bowl on the line was further confirmation in a series of confirmations going back 2 & 3 years that Jones was not going to be at TN long term. That's when you decommit or after a 2nd year coach embarrassed a 5th year coach on his home filed like Kirby did to Butch-decommit but to remain supposedly committed & wait until arguably the lowest point in TNs storied football history to decommit is why this one DOES NOT sit well with the TN faithful & never will. Going 14-24 in SEC play will never cut it at TN. At the END of year 4 Butch had a losing record in SEC play so please don’t tell me he suddenly realized Butch wasn’t going to compete for championships.

Pruitt & company (with Fulmer) went to his school to make their pitch simply asking him to hold off until Feb 7th 2018 to get to know the new staff. Mays & family declined saying it wasn't enough time to build a relationship with the new staff yet he managed to build a new relationship with Pittman in less than 6 weeks from his public decommittment Nov 7.

I'm done commenting on this topic. Let’s look forward now, support Pruitt & company & focus on the ones we got.

GO VOLS!!!

I can agree with all this just seems a little hollow to me coming from a guy who has been on staff for only a few weeks and doesn't have ties to the program.

Think he'd be better served focusing on the guys who signed and the guys still available than worrying anymore about Mays.

Water under the bridge now.
I've been trying to find merit to your reasoning, JGA: to be as objective as possible regarding a player's proclaiming such devotion, etc. to an institution which is literally rooted deeply into his own family's blood, sweat, and tears. I can't. Neither, then, can I rectify your view. I See a "Me-Me Me-Me First" individual, thus I share the potential schadenfreude with my fellow VFLs in hoping he, sooner-or-later, rues the day he broke ties with his supposed orange blood, and became a dirty dawg. May Cade Mays, et al, ride the pine in Athens. GBO!

I hate the fact that Cade went to UGA, but at the same time that's his right. However, we don't need to waste anymore time talking about him or Gruden or Butch. It's time we circle the wagons and get back to what matters most, and that's being a united front and supporting our vols.

They only get one shot at this. I hope those that go else where the very best when we beat their team every chance we get. While they watch on TV as the Vols raise the NC Trophy, I hope they realize they could have been a part of it all.

As far as I'm concerned, Coach Niedermeyer is absolutely right !!! It is a shame that so many Tennessee guys chickened out and signed with other schools when the VOLS needed them more than ever this recruiting class. But no, they want to play for a team that an win a NC. They don't have enough sense to realize that if they had signed with CJP and staff, and helped our VOLS rebuild, they might be on a NC team within 3-5 years. With the Vols, they would be seeing playing much more quickly than they most likely will be when they sign with a team that is loaded with **** and ***** talent. Oh well, their loss. Go VOLS...

Why do so many doubt Coach P. If Kirby did this with Ga, then Coach P can do it with the Cols in the same time. We have talent on the roster, it’s not like we are a sewer team.

Let me just say this that CJP has an edge about him. His staff will too. The players also will. Get used to it. I personally like having an edge and think it is needed in football.
