Heck, Iam a HUGE Gator fan, and that was no 'catch' as you say. I would have flipped out also, if I was a Vol fan on that one. That 'catch' for me anyhow, from Jesse 'ESPN' Palmer, to Gaffney was embarrassing. Kinda one of those, 'Thank ya, now let's get the heck outta dodge' moments.
As I recall, we were playing Vandy, at home, 2005 and lost. My wife, young son (3 yrs at the time) were sorting through Xmas decorations for the upcoming season. Near the end of the game, when I knew we were going to loose, I picked up a talking Santa Claus and threw it across the living room (away from my wife and son) with my customary expletive "damn it!". It was weighted weird b/c of the battery pack and sailed a little high on me hitting the big wedding picture of me and my wife. The glass broke out of the frame and the picture fell to the floor. I stood in silence as I turned toward my wife and son, who were looking at me with disbelief. I opened my mouth to start to say that I didn't really mean to do that, when the talking Santa suddenly said:
"Remember, the magic of Christmas lies in your heart"
Disaster adverted - minor Xmas miracle as we all just started laughing.
My son still talks about Daddy throwing Santa across the room.
I almost got into a fight with another UT fan after the Jabar Gafney "touchdown". I was so mad I was ready to fight anyone. Being young and drinking did not help.
I feel your pain brother....I no longer allow myself to have "Cubbie Meltdowns" I reached the quota long ago and now subscribe to the philosophy of lowered expectations. Now the Vols....that's a whole different story.Actually my worst flip out in sports period was the 2003 NLCS...Game 6. Cubs blew it, and I literally screamed at the top of my lungs, opened the front door my house and pulled a Forrest Gump and just started running as fast I could down the street. Luckily I had on my running shoes and suitable running apparel but still, I'm surprised I didn't pull a muscle or something because I didn't do any kind of warmup. When I got back I was still so jacked up I went upstairs and started lifting weights and got on the exercise bike. After an hour of all that I still was jacked up so I immediately went to the Cubs' messageboard and proceded to call the Cubs every name in the book. My wife said the next morning "Don't worry, they can win tonight" and I just looked at her and said "It's the Cubs....no they won't".
My worst "flip out" moment after a loss was last weekend. I literally almost flipped when I lost my balance walking down a muddy slope after the game.
After five trips to Knoxville to watch the Carolina vs. Tennessee, last weekend was the toughest, between the weather, getting humiliated, and then falling down on the way back to the car.
Hopefully we can make it more than 5 offensive plays today without turning the ball over!
I was 9 when we lost to Memphis in 96 and I cried.I should probably hide all of these memories deep down and never tell anyone how crazy I am for UT football, but it makes for a fun thread.
Mine was the 2001 SEC championship game against LSU. We fumbled away our chance, and a shot at the national title, late in the game. I threw the ottoman threw the living room wall. I then proceeded out the front door and stripped out of my lucky UT outfit. I lit the pile of clothes on fire and watched them burn in my underwear as the neighbors drove by. Needless to say, I wasn't invited to the next neighborhood BBQ.
