Your Superstitions Before/While Watching the Vols

Haha just kidding.

But seriously I had no idea people put that much thought into it...

It's not even planned. It just happens. Like a train wreck, or something.

Oh, and I always watch beginning to end. I'll flip to other games in commercials but even if we are getting our tails kicked I'll watch all the way through.

Me too. And, I will watch us play Northern Montana School for Blind Girls on crappy PPV coverage over any other college game on, even if it's #1 v #2 in the nation.

I used to wear the same shirt for every single game, a vintage UT shirt with the old school Davy Crockett VOLS design on it. Unfortunately its breaking down and developing holes so I've been forced to retire it. So I'm starting a new gameday attire tradition: solid orange pants/white UT polo shirt.

As far as watching the game: beer and jack daniels are a gameday must. I'm a very active spectator in the stadium and at the house. When watching at home I have trouble sitting still and I hardly interact with anything outside the game itself (no phone calls or conversations with others on topics outside of UT football). After partularly rough losses (ie bama last year) my phone may stay off until Sunday. Like previous posters I can only watch UT games with select company. I'd rather watch a game alone then with people who will continually make mindless comments about anything they see on the field (i.e. "I like the other teams colors", "If the game were decided by cheerleader cuteness, we'd never lose", etc).

I usually change my perspective of the action during huge moments of the game (i.e. left my bleacher seat during the 06 LSU game during our goal line stand at the end to watch the action from the aisle, during our onside kick at Bama last season I turned my back to the field to instead watch the play on the jumbotron, will stand up and watch the TV from a doorway when at home, etc.).

Last year the friends I tailgate with would all take a shot of moonshine together before starting our final walk to the game. Always Coke as a chaser.

Sammmmme here. My friends will be annoyed when I'm in my room watching UT-Martin on ESPN3 instead of seeming like an actual human being with things to do.

Witch Doctor always have to sacrifice a pig(BBQ) before Alabama game. Witch Doctor sometimes like to wear Witch Doctor wifes underwear but that really have nothing to do with Vols....(hehe.)Bones never lie.

I will start off wearing an orange shirt. If they are doing bad the shirt comes off, and I'll put on a regular non tennessee shirt.
Whatever position I'm in when they start doing good, I'll stay in that position until they start doing badly.
I WILL not allow anyone who is going to talk crap to be in the same room with me, while the game is on. You talk crap you're out. I actually prefer to have the house to myself.

Also if they are doing horribly my phone will not get answered if I know the other person has something smart to say about the game. I have a Georgia fan friend who refuses to see that point.

Also if someone who doesn't know a thing about football tries to talk to me about it during or after a loss, I'll loose my mind.

I was wondering if any of you in the Volnation have superstitions before or while watching the Vols. Here are mine:

1. If the game is on, I don't answer my phone. Don't care who it is, while the Vols are on, the phone is off.
2. The channel doesn't change during the game, only at halftime and that's sometimes.
3. I never walk the dog during the game. Before, halftime, or after.
4. I never wear the same shirt as the previous week. Different game, different shirt. Only thing that stays the same is the hat, and I never put it on inside. Sits on the coffee table in front of me.
5. Never eat the same thing on Gameday. I try to do something that corresponds with the opponent. Sept.11 I'll be making Duck a l'Orange :)

That's about it for me, so let's hear some of yours.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that they can change the game..

My son and I try to watch as many games as possible together. If not calls at halftime or great moments (last couple of years those comments start with "Can you effin believe effin Eric Berry!" When at home by myself I always walk over to my Tennessee print, "It's Football time in Tennessee," and rub my hand over the glass and remind myself win or lose "It's Football time in Tennessee," and I am damn glad to be a VOL fan. GO VOLS

One I did away with, but in 98 I would not have a single drop of alcohol the night before or day of the game. In 97 we went 11-0 in days I did not drink the night before and 0-2 in the games we did so I decided to run with it.

Now, I put my head in my hands and do not watch extra points or field goals. Not so much superstision and it is I just can't bare to watch.

When I have friends over to watch the game, if we do bad then next week we sit in different spots..if we win the game then everybody has to sit exactly where they were

That is exactly what you will find on the running game thread.

Volnation can truly be a scary place during a football game.

i was being a bit sarcastic cuz this place is brutal during a game. i actually wait til monday to come back on.

i try to play golf during the games. everytime i play and shoot 75 or under they lose. 76 + they win. so i go to a course not played before on tough games.
tho i shot a 71 last year during bama.

you can go ahead and blame me for the loss. let lincoln slide:mf_surrender:

I have 2 or 3 different shirts I will wear depending on how were doing(will wear 1 and if we start to do bad I will take that one off and put on the other one) what ever I'm wearing and we win I fold it up put it in a drawer
By it's self and wear it next week, if we lose I wash it to clean off the bad luck. I would prefer to watch by my self, I get very angry when we do bad. My friends want me to come over but most of the time I decline so I don't have to control myself. I hold a football my wife hand made with pillow stuffing and a Tee shirt like material that has ut designs on it, see even sewed laces on it. I will also change the volume on the TV between 20 and 25 until we start playing well again. Will also go outside and turn the radio on after we score a TD( a habit I've had since I was little, always love to here John Ward when we scored a TD) I think that's about it. I'm sure glad I'm not the only one who gets as emotional as I do on game day, it makes me feel better hearing some of ur guy's stories. GO VOLS!!!

I always have to put my left sock and shoe on first. If I go to the Vol Walk then I go over and touch the torch bearer. When I'm leaving the car I slap my "I will give my all for Tennessee today" magnet on my car. Also I try not to wear anything UT related the day of the game before I leave for the game, except for away games when I wear something UT
related the whole trip.

I make it to most of the games. But when I watch on TV I pace and stand a lot and prefer to watch alone or with a handful if family. Also the volume on the TV must be on an odd number.

Former gf had a fat orange cat named Garfield, that i always referred to as Fulmer on gameday. In tight spots I rub his belly on the Tv for luck. He personally won us the 07 KY game... You're welcome.

Need a new lucky totem though, no longer with the gf or Fulmer. Lol

I only hate you because you shot a 71. :) I'll be lucky to sniff the low 70s in my lifetime.

First, I have a special Rocky Top gameday alarm to wake me up. I get up and immediately put on my UT Gameday Mix (Vol Network Greatest Hits combined some various Pride stuff) and listen to it all the way through while I get ready. I shave for home games but not for away and never wear the same thing to two games in one season. Tailgating consists of Tennessee whiskey (Jack when I can afford it, Dickel when I can't) and Tennessee Bud Lights ( I hate bud but can't resist the orange bottles and cans.

I'm the same as most of yall when it comes to standing in one place when we are doing well and moving if we aren't. I turn off my phone right before kickoff and only turn it back on if we win. No one in my family is allowed to talk to my uncle on the phone on gameday as we have never won when they do haha

That's a about it, though I am going to change up my road game routine because I have seen us lose 8 straight games on the road! :cray:

Gameday is a special event unlike any other day of the year, and you have to treat it as such.

If I can't make the trip to Knoxville:

1. Wake up, play Rocky Top immediately, as loud as my iPod dock will allow. It pissed my roommates off in college, it pissed my friends who would crash on Friday nights, and it pissed my old lady off, but there are no questions asked about this ritual, it HAS to happen. I then proceed with a smoke and a shot of whiskey. This is always at 6:00 A.M.

2. Next, I hit the golf course for a quick 9 with my Dad, Uncle, and long time friend. Even if it's pouring rain, we still go to the course in hopes of getting on, but they serve alcohol so we learn to cope.

3. Back at home at 9:45, turn on Gameday and start prepping the food. More whiskey is consumed during this stage of events.

4. Gameday attire is as follows: Orange golf shirt for home games, White for away.

5. By this point, I've usually raised the decibals of my voice (whiskey has that effect), and I get my phone calls and texts in before it starts.

6. During the game, there are only a very select group of people who are around. Conversation is limited to only what needs to be said, never more. Swearing is not only acceptable, but preferred. If you can't handle it, I'm sure you have your own television. Very few moments are spent sitting down, unless we're up or behind big.

7. After the game, this is the only fork in the road. If we won, cigars and whiskey are abundant. (This is the time to ask for favors, as well as another drink...). If we have lost, usually only 1 of the members feels comfortable enough to stay. The time is mostly spent with dead air and blank stares, mixed with random bits of swearing and yelling about specific plays.

8. Depending on the game, number 7 can influence how the rest of the evening is spent. Sometimes more games are viewed, sometimes the tv stays off.

If I make the trip to Knoxville: Pour the whiskey and do not stop. Grab some quick food, more whiskey. In seats an hour and fifteen minutes before the game, no excuses.

Go Vols!

Also, my dad is a bit of a negavol so I can no longer watch games with him as we always get into shouting matches at halftime on what the Vols can do better in the 2nd half. He did hate Fulmer with a passion that I've not seen matched by anyone, including Volnation.

We once gave him an autographed Phil Fulmer picture, framed, for his B-day during the UGA game one year. He immediately took it out to the yard and filled it with bullet holes. To his credit we won the game!

Whatever I've done during Kentucky games over the past two and a half decades has worked like a charm. Your welcome :D .....uh, but I do apologize for my antics during the Wyoming game. Must've been a Steve Bartman moment.
