Whoa, I lived really close to stockton for about a year and a half until Last September

Only time I had seen it with regards to sports was when mentioning where nate Diaz was from (mma fighter)

I wonder why Stockton, Ca was a place for a wcbball tournament?

But I think LV alum Vickie Baugh was from there. I might be wrong.

Looks about right.

The unknowns for me are Creighton over Toledo and
Miami over FGC.

The games of interest are Michigan State v Arizona State and Missouri v South Florida.

I pretty much agree with this. Hard to call the 8 vs. 9 game much of an upset but it feels like the other seeds will probably hold. Maybe Quinnipiac over Marquette? I don't know enough about either team.

South Carolina definitely has the easiest path to the Final Four out of all the top seeds.

SC, Marquette (my upset prediction), FSU and Oregon State to the S16.

SC and FSU to the E8, with SC punching a ticket to Dallas.

Not impressed by Oregon State at all. FSU will plow through them.

Coates will not play during the tournament...huge blow to South Carolina. They might not make it out of the Sweet 16.

I really feel for Coates -- tough blow for her senior year. That said, South Carolina still beat a tough (and tall) Miss. St. team without her. As someone else mentioned, their spacing tends to look a little better offensively when they're not running every play through Coates and Wilson.

I'd still pick USC to get to the Final Four but if FSU gets out of its current funk I could see them pulling the upset.

That sucks. Alaina is one of my favorite college players. I love how hard she plays 100% of the time, and her swagger.

That said, i agree that SC can still make the FF and maybe the championship game, but their margin for error is that much lower. Basically, Herbert-Harrigan will have to replicate a lot of what Coates brought to the table, and Kaela Davis can't afford to no-show as often as she has to date. Wilson in foul trouble would basically spell disaster for SC.

SCar can make it to the FF without Coates but only if their guards show up... if not, no bueno. You can count on Gray to go rebound & try and play defense even if she is having a bad shooting night K. Davis not so much. That is where Harrigan becomes important. On the bright side Harris has looked more and more comfortable running the show and much more aggressive on offense so that helps them also.

Staley obviously didn't share your optimism....

If given the choice of having her or not having her, obviously you'd want her suited up. It would be stupid to say otherwise.

SC showed that they are good enough to beat the #5 team in the NCAA rankings without her, so even if it was known that she would be unavailable for the tournament, it seems silly to punish them given the fact that they beat a #2 and #4 seed with Alaina on the bench.

It's a fact that the committee takes injuries into consideration when seeding teams. Staley knows this, that's why she wisely waited until the brackets were set to announce Coates was ruled out....

I have yet to see a team penalized for an injury when they go on to win their conference tournament without the injured player and beat the team that would likely replace them on the #1 line...

You're right, clearly USC waiting until almost immediately after the brackets were released to make the announcement was random coincidence and not strategic....
