Your opinion on the Team

It think we will be improved this year...I am expecting around 8 wins, give or take a win...I think we will be competitive in all of our SEC games, but will lack the depth to compete all the way to the final whistle in some of our tougher SEC games(FL, GA, AL). I really like the way the new coaching staff is handling business in the pre-season. UT has needed a boost of energy for a long time! It seems like the players are responding!

I can handle it when we get beat by the other team, that's why you play. When we beat ourselves, it hurts.

This is the closest attention I've paid to the team during the offseason, I've visited the recruiting board, following folks on twitter and am reading more about Vol ball than I have since I was at university. I have a good feeling about this team and think we win 9.

I love the attitude, passion, and general feeling of "TEAM" that is prevalent on the hill right now. I too think we've beat ourselves in the past and I don't expect that this year. I also don't expect excuses when we lose, but a coach that tells it like it is, I can't wait.

As of this post, we have 25 days, 20 hours, 21 minutes, and 35 seconds until kickoff against WKU.

It seems like the whole team, or at least the players that want to be starters, are all coming together and doing these unrelenting practices together. McNeil thanked Kiffin for the competition. He admitted becoming compacent and only showing up on game day, and that's not how it goes down if you plan on winning games with your teammates.

The ones that aren't playing with the team are either kicked off, felt forced to leave, and/or doing 3 hours of drills with the strength and conditioning staff.

I think we will be a good.....not great.....but good team this year. I've said and maintained all year that we are an 8-4 team barring a rash of injuries and will go to a decent bowl. I will be more than happy with that for this year.

8-4 sounds right but I just don't see 4 games that we lose. I think we beat WKU, UCLA, Ohio, Auburn, Vandy and KY with no problems.

I also think we will take UGA and SC down in Knoxville.

The only games I see us losing are to UF, Ole Miss, and BAMA. I'm not even iffy on us losing to Ole Miss or BAMA but their home field advantage certainly helps.

My prediction is 9-3 but if our offense performs better than expected then 10-2 or 11-1 is possible with our schedule.

We were only a few pathetic mistakes away from being 7-5 last year and I believe we will be significantly better this year and won't have those type of ridiculous mistakes that resulted from the entire offense being confused.

I would put money that will will not win MORE than 7 games. I like the coaches and the intensity, and I think that we might "surprise" a few teams until halftime, but I don't think we'll beat (1) Florida (2) Alabama (3) Georgia (4) Ole Miss (5) a slip-up game, could be UCLA, South Carolina, Kentucky

On paper I think we are worse than last year. On the field I think we will be better. Not much better, but some better. Can't get much worse than last year.
I hope they are all right, but I feel too many fans expect way to much this season. I just don't see a miracle in the near future. Sure hope I am wrong!

Hopefully our freshmen turn out pretty good but we lost a backup QB that we needed IMO and we all heard about the players that were thrown off or left on their own.
Last year's O line was supposed to be one of the best in the country. They got their butts handed to them by almost everyone. So, nobody knows and the stars beside names on paper aren't worth the paper they are written on.
I see some players stepping up and surprising people this time.

Remember when we were suppose to win the NC in 2005?

Maybe Lincoln kicks worse? Other than that not sure how we get worse. I mean we lost to Wyoming at home and only put 10 points up on them. Wait, was that the "on paper" team or the "on the field" team that played that game. Now I am confused.

I think we're equal or better everywhere on the field. Add some hunger and attitude and I'd lay money on us beating Wyoming at Neyland.

Linebacker may be the only exception, and that may be an experience rather than a talent issue.

I expect a slight improvement (at the very least) from every other spot on the field.

With the depth issue alone, I'm not sure about the DT position either, everywhere else, I agree we should be better.

Brooks may have been my favorite coach on the old staff, but he simply can't hold a candle with what O can do with D Lineman. I think that is the X factor for improvement. I also think we get more production at DE than we have seen in several years.

Oh, I'm not concerned about O's coaching one iota, it's the complete lack of bodies he has to work with, they're simply not there. I agree on the DE position, I think we will be strong there in the future, maybe get back to the Chuck Smith and Todd Kelly days.

Your first sentence is what has me concerned. I feel the defense will keep us in the game and we are going to need a clutch FG kicker. I hope Lincoln can return to the level he played at his freshman year. Also, I am starting to feel hopeful for our offense. It makes me nervous putting a lot of expectations on true freshman, but the "Fab Four" may be the real deal.

If you want our players to believe, We the Fans have to believe. Quit the pessimistic viewpoints. I believe this team will give their all for Tennessee and make everyone proud.

Tennessee

2008 record: 5-7 (3-5 SEC)
New coach: Lane Kiffin, formerly Oakland Raiders head coach.
What he inherits: Tennessee is always loaded with defensive talent. Even last year, the Vols boasted the nation's third-ranked defense, and the presence of stars like safety Eric Berry and linebacker Rico McCoy should give renowned defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin (Lane's father) plenty to work with. Lane Kiffin's challenge will be reviving one of the nation's worst offenses of a year ago (115th out of 119). In order to do so, he'll need to boost the confidence of battered quarterback Jonathan Crompton.
'09 prospects: While the 34-year-old Kiffin elicits no shortage of skepticism, there's too much talent at his disposal not to expect immediate improvement. In particular, several members of last winter's recruiting class -- most notably running backs Bryce Brown and David Oku -- could have a huge impact. The Vols aren't likely to challenge Florida in the SEC (not after Kiffin's infamous cheating comments), but they should get back to a decent bowl.
