1988 Vs Bama

We lost but Keith Delong showed everyone why he was an All American and a first rounder that day, making 19 tackles with 4 assists, 1 PBU, and an INT.

After the game, my dad and I stood outside the locker room waiting on him to come out. he signed my football. I still have it.

His performance was so strong that the two bammers we went up there with went with us to get his autograph. He humbly signed the two bammers' hats and we all had a nice chuckle over the irony of it all.

1998 UT vs Fla…it was crazy
That was my first game at Neyland as well. Ex was a student at the time so she got student tix and I had a spouse card. Went to every home game that year and the SECCG. I have never seen the Vols lose a game that I attended regardless of location. That includes basketball.

sometime in the 60's. Seats were between the uprights, south endzone. Remember Charles Rosenfelder. Tenn took a time out on the 20 and Charles on 1 knee puked in the huddle then made a fine block!!!!!!!! Kentucky was the opposing team.

Tennessee vs. Notre Dame in 2004.
A couple years ago I turned 67 and my grandchildren knew that going to a game at Neyland and watching the team run through the T was on my bucket list. They bought me tickets for my birthday. Me and my 2 grandson's made the trip to the Austin Peay game. At one point after a lightning delay on a hot day my grandson turned to me and said "Paw Paw I'm sorry but this is the worst day ever. When the game finally got started he turns around and said "Paw paw this is the best day ever!! Because of the delay I didn't get to check off watching guys running thru the T but to be there with my grandson's was the best day ever.

Posting this because on September 13th (UGA game), I get the privilege of taking my wife to her first-ever game at Neyland. Before anyone asks, we've been married 23 years, but she doesn't fan like I do. That having been said, after taking her to the Arkansas game last year (which didn't go our way) and her making fun of how pitiful their home crowd was......I finally talked her into going to a game with me at the true cathedral of college football. I wanted her to experience Neyland at "full rock", so getting tickets to one of the directional schools was out of the question. I've already warned her that "it's going to be LOUD", and she's okay with that. Pretty excited for her to experience what I've experienced many times over the course of my fandom.

I know the question's been asked before "what was your first game at Neyland", this one's a little different. Let's talk about your thoughts when you walked into Neyland for the first time ever. I can clearly remember thinking "this is the biggest stadium I've ever seen" and "I will never hear anything as loud as this" (that last one.....let's just say I've been to a Slipknot concert and was very near the speakers, but it's really daggone close).
My very first game was a drummer in POTS. Yep, we lived in West TN and our family didn't have the resources to go over there to a game, but I always listened to John Ward. Then, I am lucky enough to get accepted to UTK, get to campus on a Tues. My roomie was a buddy from high school who played sax in the POTS, and he told me a drummer just quit today. Why don't you go talk to the director and see if he might need you? I'm like yeah, that's gonna happen. The first game was 4 days away. So, I go tilt at the windmill, and lo and behold the director checked my bg with my high school director and told me to be at practice Wed morning at 6.30. Boom, just like that. I was so excited to be in but terrified. I didn't know any of the routine or where to be. Somehow I managed to learn it all in 4 days, and Saturday game time was on the field when we broke open the T. Wow, folks if you're in the stands it's loud, but you have no idea what it's like when you are on the field. It was like a wall of energy running through me. I just stood there thinking, Man, this is the best moment of my life right now. Proud to be a VFL!

My first game was against Army in 1965.. Here is how the stadium looked at that time. Picture is from 1964 but nothing changed before I got there.
