Your expectations for UT Football

What do you believe should be the standard for the Vol football program?

Number 1. Sec cg 1 n 3 yrs n be nice to win each time but 1 sec in 5 or 6 yrs with a few back to back sec runs. Since that's usually how it happens due to 1 or 2 great players.

7 or less wins next yr means this staff is not the bsia as he claims.

Not arguing, honest question.
What is bsia and who is claiming to be it/one?

In six years we have not won 8 ballgames in a season but continue to sit in the top 10 in attendance. Either we a glutons for punishment, or we are waiting for that magical player that sparks a run that goes for years as Peyton was, and we just don't want to miss it...

I think that alone says a lot about our expectations..

If it were not for message boards like this for fans to express they anger, disbelief, and utter dismay these past few years I don't believe Kiffin would have made it on the plane to USC much less Bamer, and the Doolander would have probably have his stool kicked out from under him on national telivision.

Go Big Orange!

So your answer is number 2 then?

Above all I want flexible coaches capable of actually influencing games to our benefit rather than just letting the cards fall where they may by stubbornly doing the same things over and over and over again regardless of personnel available and the strengths and weaknesses of our opponents.

Expectations for any UT roster should be a variable set by a number of factors:

1) roster talent and skill
2) roster football intelligence (should be a product of experience if coaching staff is competent)
3) roster health and attrition
4) quality of opposing rosters faced
5) other x factors

Understanding this variability is why I am pretty happy about going 6-6 this year and still PO'd that we did not win it all in 2001.

8+ Wins per year, competitive with and capable of winning against any team that comes our way, no freaking blowout humiliation losses. NEVER lose to KY, Vandy, SC, or a down FL team! If FL is top notch I can accept that, but losing to garbage FL teams is never going to be OK.

None of the poll options work for me, but the closest would be "9+ Wins". I expect to be in the running for the SEC East every year barring serious misfortune.

Bama handles it? Look at their record from about '93 till '05.
Starting a poll and then arguing with everyone that doesn't agree with you is counter productive.
Man, you have gone down hill.
I thought you knew the game. You sound like one of these students of the game that think they know what they're talking about because they watch tv.
What is your deal? I mean your bashing the guy because he has high standards? High expectations? Obviously wants nothing but the very BEST for the team and fans? Because he has an opinion that is contrary to the little fan police click that seems to think they have carte blanche over this forum?

As far as him arguing, I don't see it. I think he has been pretty well constrained considering some of the post made that he has not responded to.

I never need an excuse to drink, but as long as the Tennessee Vols are playing football I'll damn sure never want for one.

I haven't changed... except to become wiser. I haven't argued with everyone in this thread.

Bama during that period wasn't the kind of program that we should aspired to IMO. Now, they are. They didn't handle it then and continued to hold coaches accountable for winning at a high level until they found one that did.

So after Stallings left in 1996 and before Saban took over in 2007, who was handling the awesome sauce in Tuscaloosa?...11 years...just sayin.

Well, it depends. We are a well-established program with a lot of past tradition and present resources; I want to pick the first choice, 9+ wins, as a general expectation for us.

But at this time we are rebuilding back up to get there, so I am not going to kick the dog, smash my TV and say fire CBJ if we only get 8 next year.

I envision us winning each and every game as we come to them one at a time. But I am not crushed and raging when we don't.

OK. Honest question though it may sound antagonistic it isn't. At what point do the excuses go away? Over the first two years we've had: new system, Dooley's players, too young, too slow, too inexperienced, underdeveloped,....

None of those things should be true this fall of UT in anyway that they aren't true of most SEC programs. So when do we say that it is time to put up?

You were asking these questions after the Vandy game and all during the offseason (you...sjt...no "straw man"), so I'd redirect it back to you...since you have such a big headstart. :yu:
