Your expectations for UT football...

to be competitive with the top teams in the conference and to play at least one big time program as an OOC game each year...

too many "luck" type things factor into championships and getting to BCS bowls

I admire your cool demeanor, LWS, in the light of some of these expectations.

It just shows that most of the posters on here only know the Fulmer years and grew up believing the 90s were some kind of norm for Tennessee instead of, arguably, the best run (in historical context) in TN history.

I agree with your expectations. I'm thrilled as well that UT really led the SEC pack in scheduling one exceptional OOC game every year for a very long time now.

At what point have we ever won a NC once out of every seven years. Even for our university that is a stretch. We have played football for over a hundred years and have 6 the entire time. I'm all for high standards, but you my friend will never be satisfied with any program.

if y'all are going to get upset at alabama for claiming to have 413 and 1/3 national championships.......

then, it's time to stop claiming tennessee has 6.

tennessee does not have 6.

Why do gators feel the need to try to correct us? As if they are any more enlightened than we are.

oh, they have them in the same manner alabama has 413 1/3.

if you want to claim a national championship for every occasion where some organization like the "Dunkel System" grants a national title than tennessee has 6.

hell, according to wikipedia, tennessee has 7. (wikipedia indicates that Sagarin awarded tennessee a national championship in 1956. a year that not even utsports.com gives credit to having won a national championship).

take credit for them all. no problem.

just don't give bama a hard time for doing the same thing and claiming 413 1/3 because of some organization like the Birmingham Beekeeper poll.

i'm just calling people out for being hypocrits. that's all.

people whine and moan constantly about alabama fans and the amount of national championships they claim.

but, when the shoe is on the other foot.....

remind them of the score of the 2009 game.

that should work.

if that doesn't work, every five minutes, tell them crompton just threw another touchdown.

Or you can simply remind them that we've won 3 of the last 4 against them.

If that doesn't work remind them of the 1990's.

Also, tell them how many similarities you see in Richt & Fulmer

At a minimum...
1. Beat Alabama.
2. Win East every 3-4 years.
3. Win SEC every 4 years.
4. Help other teams beat Alabama.

You are right. I mean look at Fulmer. We should expect 0 SEC Titles every 10+ years like your hero was. What a disgrace.

To act like men off the football field and understand that the good things that happen off the field are never reported but the bad are!!!!

I will go with MH on this.

Hamilton is on record as saying his expectations at Tennessee are to win at least two SEC championships during a 10-year period and get to the SEC title game every three or four years, as well as play in BCS bowls with some regularity. ...

-Win all of our home games...with that fan base we should be able to shake the rhythm of other teams.
-Win at least 10 games each year
-Beat Bama all the time
-Beat Florida all the time
-Keep Vandy close...they are from Tennessee
-Tackle
-Win
-Cheerleaders
-Beer
-Boats
-Orange

Win no less than 10 games/year. We do that and the rest will take care of itself, even damming the Tide, stir frying Gator meat and getting to the BCS. No, am not nuts. With a program that consistently wins 10 games, and being an SEC team, and being Tennessee, recruits will flock here seeing we're only a hop, skip, and tiptoe away from a BCS. The BCS will then become little more than a formality or routine presence for us.

I look for DD and team to return the Vols to being a tough defense team, having a bulldozer running game and the ability to bite serious yard chunks with an effective passing game.

I expect Tenn. to become a team that other teams would rather not play. Not due to being thugs but having an attitude that if you have the ball and you're not wearing a UT uniform, it isn't your ball. Thus you will pay the price for touching it. Whether it be running or passing it past your goal line or being hospitalized by a defense hit.

the topic is about expectations. the realism is that Alabama was mediocre before saban came in, but the fans expectations were way higher.

You are confusing "expectations" with "hopes and dreams." Don't worry; you are far from alone.
