Your expectations for the next month - Recruting?

Vanderbilt is ranked #16.......where are we?

UT will finish ahead of Vanderbilt in recruiting rankings. They could pull one or two more 4* type players at best and UT will finish better than that. Plus, their ranking is based on them having more, not better, players at this time.

High - 18th Ranked Class
Low - 28th Ranked Class

Next year will be the true tell of his ability to recruit.

If we could get to 20 that would show Coach can recruit, then win 7 and win the bowl game then we will be on our way climbing the ladder back to the top.

We're back in the "once we start winning, the stars will come" mode once again. Hopefully, Butch will make it happen this time. If he can pull Green, Lawson and North, it will be a very successful first year.

Successful wouldn't describe that... more like amazing...

We will bat 33% for that group. I truly hope I'm wrong but this happens every single year... Recruiting forum blows up with lists of getting all of our big name recruits.

Not getting on you PV... just saw those three names grouped together in your post.

I give Jones and staff credit. Atleast they are going after some big fish. You can't get any if you don't go after them! We may or may not land 1 or 2 but I don't think you can fault him if he doesn't.

Exactly, he knows he has to recruit well to compete in the SEC.

It would be a miracle for UT to get into the top 25 recruiting rankings. We have 16 current commits. Only 4 of those are 4-stars, and Jason Carr is wavering. We need probably 9-10 commits. At least 4 of those would need to be in the top 250. We are currently ranked 46th. We can take 27 commits.

Ole Miss currently has 20 commits: 4 of them are rated 4 star, 16 are rated 3 star. Tennessee has 16 commits: 4 of them are rated 4 star, 12 are rated 3 star. Ole Miss is currently ranked #19, Tennessee is ranked #39 (Rivlas). I don't follow your logic that Tennessee will not be in the top 25. As long as CBJ fills the remaining spots with players ranked 3 stars, and only 3 stars, we would still most likely be in the top 25. Let's hope he does even better.

In hell...

Right now we can climb out of hell... we can scratch, claw, with our finger nails ! We can climb out of Hell ! But we gotta heal, right now as a team. I want you to look at the guy next to you, LOOK INTO HIS EYES ! I think your gonna see a guy that will go that inch with you, a guy that will sacrifice himself because at the end of the day thats what life is...the 6 INCHES in front of your face ! ETC ETC...(all done in Al Pacino voice).... Sorry I got caught up with Youtube again. Carry on .

Hang on Coach BJ, my grand son is coming, he is 6'0", 170 lbs, plays WR and RB for his HS team, has a 5.0 40 time, moving him to OLB next year, His only problem is he is 15 years old and in the 9th grade.

This class is all about perception and filling needs. We need to land a couple guys rated highly in this recruiting class and we also need to fill positions of need to maintain depth.

The perception of landing a solid class will help with 2014 recruiting, but it is not going to kill us. The 2014 class will be the one we should focus on and place judgement on what this staff is capable of.

It would help if we won a few ball games as well.

I like to follow the rankings but don't worry about them too much. It's all needs and coaching to fit the system.

Take Louisville smoking Florida last night - here are the relevant rankings

Florida
2009 11
2010 2
2011 12
2012 3
2013 3 right now

Louisville
2009 76
2010 48
2011 29
2012 42
2013 72 right now

Believe me - I understand this doesn't "prove" anything, but it is illustrative.

I just want to see stedy upwards progress in all facets of the game. I'd be happy with 3* recruits this year if we can coach them up and have them not make stupid penalties or bad decisions...

I am very optimistic and think this staff will finish strong, especially now that we will have all our coaches out on the trail. The bowl games that our coaches were involved in are now over and they can get out recruiting after the dead period ends! I am really anxious to see how CZA WR coach can recruit! He has a very good reputation of being a good recruiter! I realistically think we will finish in the 20's maybe a little better. Where ever we end up will be fine. I really wasn't expecting much from this 1st year/ 1month staff!! But it seems there doing great so far! UT's in the mind of kids that they wasn't with the previous staff!! GBO can't wait til spring

It doesn't really matter to me at this point. I'd love to see us land a highly rated class, but am much more concerned about seeing how CBJ coaches his recruits up after their signed. After getting so excited about CDD following his first class and then watching things steadily go up in flames from that point forward, I have definitely learned the virtue of being patient and avoiding a rush to judgment, painfully.

I do hope CBJ can upgrade our DBs' speed and bring in a top RB though. What ever happened with that dual threat QB that everyone was talking about shortly after CBJ was hired? Are we done at QB with RF or is the staff still working on other prospects?

Go VOLS!

I expect any head coach at utk to recruit at the high level to which we've been accustomed. If we don't get a 5* I can live with it. If we finish in the bottom third of the SEC, someone needs to be fired.

For some reason, when any poster mentions "book it" it usually means they have no clue and we're not getting said recruit, coach, or anything else. Book it, is turning into the anti-book it

Hard to say. Last year, CBJ took 4 commitments in Dec. and 4 more in Jan. The year before he took 6 in Dec. and 8 after New Year's Day. Recruiting dynamics are obviously different at a school like Cinnci where you may lose or pick-up prospects who get last minute offers extended/pulled by bigger programs, but it looks like CBJ does not give up until the bell rings. I'm concerned that we did not get at least one big commitment coming out of what has been billed as our key recruiting weekend. I pretty much figured the program is doomed to 5-6 years more of what we've been watching the past few years when we did not hire a superstar head coach. No matter how good your scheme is, you gotta have the horses to win in this conference. Whatever it is that these elite prospects want, we don't seem to have it but I sure wish we'd get some.

You give up so easily man. We are in the top 2/3 on several big time prospects. Let's let this play out. Hope for the best. Let the man prove he can or can't coach until you throw the dude to the dogs. I believe We will butch slap some unexpected teams next year. We were on the verge of beating Georgia and South Carolina. We had Florida by the throat going into halftime. We have talent, but we just didn't have the coaching to do anything with that talent. I believe in Butch. Give the guy 2-3 years and I almost promise you will be impressed. Buy into his system and say GBO and continue cheering. He will bring us out of this cursed abyss that Kiffin and Dooley created for us.

Our top talent is leaving and the depth was already poor, hence the lack of success the past two seasons. CBJ and staff are not, as of now, reeling in the kind of folks who will be immediate difference makers. SOON was the word of the day during Grudenmania. It looks like LATER is the new word for Volball.

LATER....
