Agreed. He’s a winner the only drawback with him is his lack of head coaching experience. There will be some growing pains but ultimately he will get it done at Tennessee.

I absolutely agree he will get it done at TN and much sooner than later. He will have first year growing pains like every first time HC has.B it working to his advantage is all the guys he's coached with, learned from and winning was built into his DNA early in his Coaching career. Very, very few guys have learned from and coached with the elite ones JP has and the type programs he's been at. He will also have plenty of help from his elite coaching staff and from Coach Fulmer. Don't think his learning curve will be as big as most first time HC's.

I would be more positive if Pruitt the “top recruiter” could have finished stronger with the first class. It was the local media’s biggest selling point that he could recruit with the best of them. Not a good start IMO and just a bit of a concern. We’re losing ground with all of our rivals in that department.

He brought us from the 60th+ ranked class to the #20th ranked class. Don't know of any coach who had his class rise 40 points from when he was hired. Pruitt's reputation as a recruiter is based off his relationships with players and their family. He does it the right way, instead of telling a recruit what he wants to hear with lies and BS. We saw where that recruiting tactic gets you the last few yrs. But now he's building relationships as a HC with 2019 recruits and beyond. I have zero worry with him and this staffs recruiting. Top 5-10 classes will be the norm again, as will getting our share of the elite, blue chip recruits. A few things I'm not concerned about with CJP is recruiting, development, discipline and playing physical. Just a matter of him being able to take everything he's learned from the elite coach's he's been around since his HS coaching days and incorporating it into what he wants to do. You don't get the 100% trust from a Coach like Saban and given all the additional duties from him that JP had if he wasn't the best at his job.

The local media didn't have to sell his ability as a recruiter, his reputation and success does that on its own. The class he brought in after a 4-8 season and that one for the ages mess that Currie left, was nothing short of miraculous. One 20th ranked class that had 6 SEC teams fall between 12-20 isn't putting us further behind our rivals. Outside of GA and Ala, there was very little difference in the 3rd to 8th SEC classes. If he finished #20 in yr 2 then I could see the scepticism, but The '19 class won't be 20th with JP here, I can guarantee that. Plus the recruiting classes aren't the lone determining factor in a school's success. Yes it plays a big factor and betters your chance but not the end all, be all. Clemson has made it to the CFP the last 3 years and counting this year's #6 class, which was it's best in over a decade, they have had 2 top 10 classes in 8 yrs. Point is, we won't ever have to question JP's ability to recruit.

I wouldn’t call it a storm. I’d say it’s a slow steady drizzle.

All Vol fans I’ve talked to hope he does well but are cautiously optimistic. We’ve been burned too many times now. Plus most think he’ll leave for Bama the second it’s available to him thus the caution.

I don't even know why some fans even think that. CJP won't even be in the Ala conversation anytime soon unless he has us winning a championship the next couple years. His body of work as a HC would be very small and they aren't following up Saban with someone who hasn't established the ability to win a NC. Unless Saban plans on coaching 6-8 more yrs I doubt this should ever be a concern from Vol fans. Ala fans want Dabo when Saban is gone and he will get the first shot at the job. Not to mention Ala hasn't always been successful hiring former players or Alum's as HC's.
