Your 2021 Staff Hypothetical

Will Mushcamp isn't coming here as DC for any amount of money....

Neids needs to go though. He like several others on this staff have no business what so ever coaching college football. Looking at your fat a$$ too Will Friend
But, if the administration plays their cards right and does the right thing, there’s still time to sign Muschamp to a $2M/year, co-DC contract, only to fire him, along with the rest of the staff, at the end of the season, then we can pay him over the next 2-3 years as well.
C’mon UT, do the right thing!

We have VFL's working all over the college football globe. It is time to reel them in, and bring em' home!
Daryl Dickey
Dale Jones
Terry Fair
Tee Martin
Jay Graham
Keep Rocker, Chaney, Friend
Al Wilson (Contingent on him completing his degree).

I heard a statement during the LV-? game the other day made by the color man: "Yeah, I think he will be a coach when he finishes this time." (speaking of J Whitten) I have said it before and will say it again GET HIM!!! I think he would be a really good TE and offensive coach.

I agree that Weinke need to go, but the problem is that it’s going to be hard finding quality replacements. How many guys are going to want to come here knowing that Pruitt is squarely on the hot seat? That’s why if Weinke is let go, Chip Long or Joe Osovet will most likely be the QB coach.

Agree and like what you say That is til the last sentence. I have no idea about these guys. What is their experience at or with QB's?

Don’t you think Weinke’s hands are tied with JG also?

No,,,, maybe he has no say with JG playing, but, when they get on the field, why do the other QB's seem so inept?(except maybe Harrison) Or why is it they aren't developed well enough, or statement to this effect.

I thought JT and BM had potential but I’m not sure anymore and it appears they are duds just like JG. My opinion it is more of a player issue than a coaching issue for all three now. Of course we may never know for sure but both JT and BM have failed most of the time except for a handful of plays in the last two years. I need more than that to consider them SEC caliber.

Position coaches matter tremendously in college football. I’m in the minority on my opinion with Pruitt. But one mistake he has made is his balance in priority with recruiting vs on field with his position coaches.

There has been a drop off without Rocker. There has been a drop off with Neids at LB coach. And we’ve suffered on the field.

With that, what should the staff look like next year? I think with the right changes there is a substantial change. And I think Pruitt can rebound.

1) We need to hire Will Muschamp as LB coach and Co-DC. This would enable Neids to move back to Offense, and would place Muschamp in charge of an absolute wealth of talent when you combine our current LBs and the incoming class. Huge impact move.

2) Let Chris Weinke go. He has been lacking in both recruiting and on the field. Pair the QB of the future with his new coach in year one. It’s the right time to make this move. Salter seems to be sold out for Chaney. Won’t effect him.

3) I’m not a Will Friend fan on the field. Recruiting we have done fine in his tenure, but his units seem to consistently underperform. This one will be tough for Pruitt as their relationship seems to run deep.

I would actually keep Chaney. The guy has been successful for a long time in the sport. I think he’s still got it, but think the limitations that JG has caused won’t be realized until he departs. This may be unpopular but I thought games like Bama last year gave us glimpses. He was calling a gem and would’ve had a TD with the Crouch play had JG not messed up. I like him. So that’ll be my against the grain take.
Unless Pruitt changes his philosophy it really doesn't matter who teaches QB's their drops or runs them through drills.

I don't think there is much of a chance that the defensive room is big enough for his and Muschamp's ego at the same time. If Pruitt finds a way to get fired, Freeze plus Muschamp might be a possibility.

His job is to prepare the QB Pruitt tells him to prepare. The #1 QB will usually get about 70% of the #1 reps in practice. They've had 3 different #2's this fall. This is pretty much 100% Pruitt. I don't actually care if they retain Weinke or not. I just don't think it will make a difference.

Well if this is the case, then who the hel- is supposed to "teach" the others the finer points of the position? Maybe this is the problem, nobody is teaching them anything. They just "pick it up" or if by magic it just comes to them.....

He is. But contrary to what seem to think only one guy can get live reps at a time. They all run through drills. You've seen the routes on air. They have 7 on 7 or 6 on 6. But when you go "live" only one guy can run at a time.

Most teams have their starter take about 70% of those snaps. I'm not sure what they're doing with JG but it wouldn't be uncommon for a team with a RS Jr or Sr starter to lower his % to work other guys. That doesn't seem to be the case with JG.
