And look no further than...Fulmer, Dooley, and CBJ to see how these desperate lame duck year assistant changes work out.

This is the best argument for firing the HC. You’re not going to get other talented coaches to come and work for someone on the hot seat. Stick with the staff you have, or fire the HC. Lots of new coaches would likely keep Chaney and Nieds.

I think Chaney gets too much blame. He has his hands tied with JG and the passing offense.

Weinke has to go or change roles. We need to bring in a trusted QB developer. Hell, if we could bring in a for sure thing I would totally be fine paying that person as much as an OC.

I would like to see Friend go but I'm okay if he stays one more year.
Don’t you think Weinke’s hands are tied with JG also?

Position coaches matter tremendously in college football. I’m in the minority on my opinion with Pruitt. But one mistake he has made is his balance in priority with recruiting vs on field with his position coaches.

There has been a drop off without Rocker. There has been a drop off with Neids at LB coach. And we’ve suffered on the field.

With that, what should the staff look like next year? I think with the right changes there is a substantial change. And I think Pruitt can rebound.

1) We need to hire Will Muschamp as LB coach and Co-DC. This would enable Neids to move back to Offense, and would place Muschamp in charge of an absolute wealth of talent when you combine our current LBs and the incoming class. Huge impact move.

2) Let Chris Weinke go. He has been lacking in both recruiting and on the field. Pair the QB of the future with his new coach in year one. It’s the right time to make this move. Salter seems to be sold out for Chaney. Won’t effect him.

3) I’m not a Will Friend fan on the field. Recruiting we have done fine in his tenure, but his units seem to consistently underperform. This one will be tough for Pruitt as their relationship seems to run deep.

I would actually keep Chaney. The guy has been successful for a long time in the sport. I think he’s still got it, but think the limitations that JG has caused won’t be realized until he departs. This may be unpopular but I thought games like Bama last year gave us glimpses. He was calling a gem and would’ve had a TD with the Crouch play had JG not messed up. I like him. So that’ll be my against the grain take.

Muschamp isn't taking a position coach job. He will land somewhere as a DC.

New S&C hire.

Pull the dang trigger and offer the ice man as QB coach already. I feel he would do well with our QBs. Get Al Wilson to finish his degree and bring him in as LB coach. His fire would ignite that group.
I have often wondered why we have never brought Clausen in to coach in some level.

Lol let's throw away $10mm on new assistants when the problem is still here.

A total waste of money and time. RIP THE BAND AID OFF.

Not only is it a waste of money but there isn’t a decent asst that will come here and hitch their wagon to Beldar knowing he’s likely to be fired next year. It amounts to a coaching graveyard tying your future to this doosh nozzle. If he changes any assistants he’ll be bringing in rejects and dead beats. There isn’t a single decent assistant in this country that will come here unless he’s promised a mountain of $$$.

Nieds is a great recruiter, but he's just not much of a coach. He was best at TE, as that's just not the most important position, and his TEs played at least pretty well. I'm not sure what to do about Osovet if we move him back honestly.

A new QB coach is imperative clearly. Nieds doesn't need to be the LB coach. Obviously we need a D Line coach, and we could use a better strength coach.

Regardless of your opinion of his HC ability he’s a great defensive coach particularly with LBs. He’s an enormous upgrade over Neidermeyer And he and Pruitt are tight. I think it’s likely. It’ll be hard to convince others if they think there’s a chance Pruitt gets fired. Muschamp won’t care about that. He can get a job anywhere on D.

I’ve seen his product of LB’s at the RRS in the cotton bowl. He’s not that good.

Look at our hires this past offseason. We already have a limited assistant pool due to Pruitt's abrasive, stubborn, micromanaging personality. Wait until we try to hire with an 8 game losing streak with him on the hot seat..
