In a statement issued by Clemson, Swinney thanked Steele for his three years with the program.

"Although we were inconsistent at times with a young defense this year, overall we have been one of the best defenses in the country the last three years under his direction," Swinney said. "I thank him for his hard work and dedication to our program and wish him nothing but the best."

Clemson's defense was the weak link for the 2011 ACC champions, as the Tigers finished No. 71 in the country in total defense and No. 81 in scoring defense, allowing 29.29 points per game.

It was a marked decline from the 2010 defense, which was 13th in the nation in scoring defense and best in the ACC

At this point, if he has a pulse, I think we should write him a check for $850,000

Tom Bradley could come to UT and think he was in heaven compared to what he has been dealing with.

I say we write a 800,000 check, pin it down on the 50 yard line and let all of our candidates race to it. Whoever gets it first is our new DC. We could televise this and generate new revenue for the program.

Yes.... because his Top 20 defenses the last two years as the DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR were pathetic.

According to the USA Today it was more like 59th this year. Which is 31 spots behind the thin D we fielded this year. Not sure how accurate that is, but I doubt there is enough play in it to break the top 20.

Loosing key upperclassman and fielding a young inexperienced defense hurts the team and what can be done. Out of everyone that has been listed right now I think Steele gives the best chance to keep the defense solid. His scheme at Clemson works he just had young players, he will be coming into a situation with guys that have been playing and know what to do. I am hoping Steele will be the DC and then put good assistance around him for the DB, LB, and DL.

Yeah that same list further down at 70 has Buddy Greens Navy Defense. Steele is the best candidate left, that has DC experience. Not opposed to Sunseri but a decision needs to be made or volnation is going to crash.

No when a decision is made volnation will crash. Not a second before.

So if a decision is t made by the weekend and recruits start to waiver no one will panic. Come on really volnation is hanging by a thread right now and it isn't going to take alot for a meltdown.

Im not into comparing D rankings to pick a coach, just pointing out that Clemson's D is not top 20 as it was posted.

Any of the those 3 come with ?'s.

They just talked about Steele being out at Clemson on CFL on ESPN and said it still isnt clear whether he was fired or resigned. Didnt say anything about him being in the running for the UT DC job. Just said we will see if he lands anywhere.

I thought we were talking about volnation's servers.

If we can just get someone to tweet that Bradley is considering the job, it would be just as true as anything else we read on here. Next thing you know, he will have turned us down like the rest, but lets somehow make him do it (or at least be rumored to have turned us down)

I think in the earlier post he was talking about years 1 and 2 under Steele. The stats are from 2011. But you are right with all three having big ? If they are brought in.

I understood it as his last 2 years at Clemson.

Steele would be an excellent coach to have on the staff, just not sure his best spot would be DC. He may have a job tomorrow as a DC somewhere which would make all this moot anyway. But if he goes a few days without jumping on somewhere as a DC I would give him a solid offer on the staff.
