You should be ranked higher than you are

Thanks for the credit OP; oddly enough, you're one of my favorite posters in the years I've been lurking. But we don't need pollsters to get to Atlanta. We just have to keep winning, and Saturday should be another W.

Florida was the only test for the Vols. UGA, USCe, Vandy, Kentucky... those are all wins, Mizzou is only test left, if UT plays them like they did the 2nd half of last weeksends game. All roads lead to Atlanta and a rematch to Bama.

Losses to both A&M and Alabama will not keep you out of Atlanta if you run the table in the East.

Well you named every other irrelevant east team left on the schedule...

Also it will matter if Vols lose both of those and Florida wins out.

If you're betting on Florida losing 1 or 2 more I reckon that's a safe bet.

ARE YOU ABSOLUTELY SURE TENNESSEE WONT GO OUT AND LAY AN EGG AGAINST GEORGIA...OR MAYBE JUST STINK IT UP AS THEY HAVE MOST THIS SEASON WITH EXCEPTION OF HALF OR TWO........

WELL NEITHER ARE THEY!!! HENCE 11th.

IF WE WANT RESPECT OR BETTER YET, IF THE TEAM WANTS RESPECT.... RUN THE BOARD!

...you do understand that ALL SEC games effect our sec east ranking, not just the east games....this is like the third person I have found that thought that way....disturbing..

At this point wins mean more that rankings. Why would they feel like they should have to rank UT higher when the next 3 weeks will decide our ranking for them?

A pissed of UGA on the road, a aTm team that may be the best in the SEC and at their house, the number 1 team in the nation and defending NC, all in a row will decide where team 120 ranks amount it's peers.

Also Mizzo looks to be ever bit as good as UF/UGA IMO so another tough game with a lot of other teams to overlook along the way.

This team has the chance to show they are the number 1 team in the nation or they can show they hardly deserve to be ranked. The best part to me is we control our own destiny going in to week 5. Been a long time since I've been able to say that.

The team that's played 80% of the snaps this year will prob struggle but the one that played the other 20% could take anybody. Who will show up the next 3 weeks and can they play an entire game rather than a half/qrt?

as much as I love our VOLS, it's really hard to be too upset. Outside of Clemson, the other 9 teams have had more impressive wins....albeit maybe not the highest calibre of competition across the board. U-Dub dropped a spot after beating a decent Zona squad...guess the TAMU win was more impressive.

The VOLS need to handle business in Athens....at least 3 of the top 10 are going to lose this weekend, so it should put our team in the top 10. Continue to TCB and they'll stay there.

I haven't watched Mizzou's games, but I've looked at their season so far. Why is everyone so high on them? They did take care of their cupcakes but lost both games against P5 teams so far and neither of the teams they lost to are exactly world beaters this season.

We need to surge as high as possible this week to avoid a big fall. With 2 possible losses to follow, any idea where we'd sit being 5-2 with the 2 being Bama and A&M? Surely still in the top 20, given we don't get blown out in either?

You beat UF as the favorite, at home, and so the simple fact that you won should not have been treated as any sort of surprise.

Where I think the voters are not giving you enough credit is the way you won. You were down 21-3 at half and looked like you were headed for a sure loss, and came out and quickly erased that deficit and pulled away.

And as much as it will hurt you to admit it, Florida is not bad, especially defensively. So imo you ought to be more in the 7-10 area in the polls right now.

P.S. This is not a trap.

I hear you but with all the top ten match up this weekend, we will be moving up nicely with a win. And if we beat Tam we wil be facing Bama as possible 1 vs 3 or 4 regardless

i did expect a top 10 ranking, but i guess the way we stunk up game 1 and game 3 they just being cautious....

To me it's because they are getting better and better each week. They have found an offense to go with their D and can now push the ball downfield via the air.

The UGA game they looked the better team throughout the entire game IMO and UGA scored at the very end of the game to escape with a win. Mizzo seemed to be their equal or maybe a tad bit better but lost last min followed by a game where Mizzo scored what, 79 points? I know it's a cupcake but that's a lot vs any team and I quit watching that game before halftime but I heard they played 10min quarters in the 2nd half and still put up 79.

That's pretty impressive and I would worry about them just as much as I would vs UGA. Maybe more if they continue to improve as the season goes along.

Way to much human bias in this system, expand the playoffs to 12 or 16 and settle it on the field!

how many times did MO turn the ball over in that game again? i think MO is definitely better offensively than anyone thought they'd be. but they can be had.

On the one hand, there is a certain logic to simply dividing the country up regionally, and having the champion from each region make the playoffs, similar to the NFL. It would preserve natural rivalries based on geography.

On the other hand, it would unfairly penalize the SEC, which (although we seem a bit down overall this year) almost always has within it 3-4 teams that are deserving of being in the Top 12-15 teams each year.

I mean, what's it going to be like for a team from the Northeast? Boston College gets in beating the likes of Fordham and U of Buffalo, while a Tennessee is left out of consideration because of Alabama or some other beast from the West?

Washington State gets in by beating Gonzaga?

The State of Texas would probably be its own region, with A & M, Houston, U of Texas.

I like it like it is right now. I think it maintains excitement, and more importantly balance, to try to get one of the four coveted spots, but does not force the playoffs to take a team that is clearly inferior to the second and third place teams in another conference, i.e. the SEC.

Not always going to be perfect, but that is not the standard.

It makes sense that voters would doubt us. We haven't been nationally relevant since 2001. (You can't count 04 and 07 because we weren't NATIONALLY relevant)

What does that have to do with this season or this team? Washington (currently ranked one spot ahead of us for some reason) has been much worse since 2004 than Tennessee. Someone with half a brain should explain why a team whose best win is Arizona is ranked ahead of a team whose best win is Florida (or even Virginia Tech).

agreed. further, the playoff committee thus far has put a lot of emphasis on winning your conference, which protects the importance of the regular season, and the importance of winning your division/conference.

the downside is that it's not exactly level..the big 12 is a joke right now, and ND doesn't have the burden of a conf c'ship game.

but, overall, i do agree, it's way better than anything we've had before. you win your conference, two games against top 4 teams that have equal or better resumes than you, chances are you've done plenty enough to be considered a true national champ.
