He's the QB coach with the Tampa Bay Bucs.

Were you expecting a different answer?

Maybe Count's point was it wasn't Jake's playcalling that got him the QB coach job with the worst team in the NFL.

This post is BS. Were you actually on the Hill when Fulmer took over? I was, and there weren't any "naysayers predicting doom." Fulmer was "the anointed one". He had everyone's support in the '90's.

No, I did not go to college in the '90's. I lived outside of Knox County. My recollection is probably skewed by a few old fogeys who thought they knew a thing or two. Obviously, they were proven wrong pretty quickly. I do remember that he was very popular with the players from the beginning.

You thought the hiring of Butch Jones was going to be a disaster, and...

I just know that you have to give people a chance. It may not fit our idea of a good hire, but you never know what really makes a team come together, unless you are there on a day to day basis. Sometimes it really is more than just a bunch of really talented people coming together. Sometimes it really does need to be just the right fit. JMO :hi:
I work in a place that's been there for 50 + years and is very successful . Bosses come and go but everyone looks up to the old hands and hang on there every word. Because they know all the tricks and everything that's been tried . But when it comes down to it there all doing the same thing but a little different. I kind of relate this to CBJ, you can try the new tricks or stick with what you trust. It all works the same but sometimes you want someone there that's seen it all. Offensive's have changed over the years but one thing remains the same . Just get the ball in the the end zone.

Jake's playcalling beat USCe two years in a row and got us to our first winning season in God knows how long...

Just saying...

That was my view as well. Except of course for the JM conspiracy proponents. Thank goodness the interwebz was not in full swing.

I remember it the same. Fulmer came in as interim coach and won every game including some upsets. Then, Majors came back mid-season and lost a couple of games that we should have won.

Now, when Chavis was promoted to defensive coordinator, there was moaning and gnashing of teeth because we didn't make a well-known hire.

It took Chavis a few years to catch up with the offense.

Yeah, and I think a few people still remembered how the Battle years started out so well, but he just couldn't keep it going. They wanted him to prove more than just on-the-field. Well, he did.

If the interwebz was available back then, I definitely think you would have seen a different side of the fan base come out of the woodwork.

The verdict on CBJ and staff is still out. He has not produced results any better than Dooley yet. Year 3 will tell the tale. I hope he can be the coach we need, because he will be around for a while. Some of his calls as head coach are head scratchers, but we will see. Wins on the field are what is needed...this year.

You start thread a complaining about Negavols

You start every sentence with " you never coached"

You rebuttal with " I know you are, but what am I"

You think every coach that gets hired by UT is the next one to bring UT back

Despite numerous attempts, you can't get the brown off your nose

It appears you can't get the brown out of you head.

Maybe it was Lovie knows he needs someone who can teach/coach and thought Jake was the best available. Maybe Lovie knows he can control the defense and needed help on the offense. Maybe successful coaches know how to hire assistant coaches.

Lovie may not have the best coaching record in the NFL, but he is still a head coach there and was one of the coaches which many of the posters here wanted to replace Fulmer and Kiffin.

Actually he did...Music City Bowl, the refs took the win away. REMEMBER? Time expired and the officials called the game over. Tennessee won...then something illegal happened.

Butch went ahead and won his bowl game by 17 points(45-7) at start of 4th, and took it out of refs hands.

The #1 issue settled with our new OC on board, is that Randy Sanders is NOT coming back!

Well, I am sure that everyone would have preferred more wins, but by far the biggest need was in recruiting. Second, was maybe to re-energize the program, and keep the fan base involved until the wins started accumulating again. I would give the coaching staff an A+ on those counts.

Now, I would agree with anyone that it is now time for results on the field - not in 2016, but in 2015. I think the team took a major step at the end of this year, and I see no reason to believe that there won't be another big step in 2015. Maybe not even winning the East, but at least competing for it.

Considering where we came from, I believe a case could be made that anyone short of Saban or Gruden would not have turned us around any quicker. So, while there may be differences of opinion, I don't think it is laughable any more. If you still do, then you might be a...

Wait wait wait...

So you think UT has the best staff in the country? You think DeBord is an elite OC/QB coach?

Lololol if you think that's remotely true.

And you might be a Butch Jones fluffer if…

you take his cornball slogans as gospel.
Think Debord is the best OC candidate UT could hire.

It was popular I guess, since he got to audition, but many people talked about qualifications, and getting a coach with head coaching experience. It was nice that he had a good relationship with current players, but how did we know if he could recruit a single good player, being an unknown and all...etc...Many naysayers predicted doom for the long term.

Naysayers always predict doom.
