many people on ESPN said the Kiffin was bringing the USC blueprint here. I'm confused as to why you are mad? Are you saying now there is another Kiffin like coach in D1 football and that makes you mad?

They won't give kiffin any respect because he's at UT. They think is a great opportunity and that should tell you they don't know anything!

Funny how Kiffin is not qualified because of his lack of experience and all that mess, but Sarkisian is a GREAT hire because he will bring a USC blueprint, etc. Interesting...

First of all, I think Kiffin will succeed here. However, experience may not be as big of an issue at Washington and in the Pac 10 like it would be in the SEC.

No, he's mad because Kiffin and Sarkissian are bringing pretty much the same thing to the table except that Kiffin is putting together a legendary staff. The national media has heavily criticized the Kiffin hire while praising the Sarkissian hire.

Edit: Nevermind, looks like Blake already explained.

Well see, The reason they are being easier on Sarkisian is because everyone else did. If he wins 4 or 5 games next year it is a marked improvement. Sarkisian will get more time to clean up the mess that Ty made than Kiffin will before they start feeling the heat.

Blake, you also like how nobody is calling Washington racist with their decision? I guess since they hired Willingham, the media feels like Washington has met their quota and doesn't need to interview black candidates any more. I love how the national media has criticized us for not giving Charlie Strong and others more of an opportunity. The same reasons they say Kiffin is not a good hire can be said for Charlie Strong and others. Most of the legitimate black HC candidates are young and unproven. At least Kiffin has winning OC experience, NFL HC experience, life experience from playing and growing up around football and can bring an amazing staff with him. It's not about race, it's about the best available person for the job and Kiffin fits everything we needed. Charlie Strong did not and obviously Turner Gill didn't either. Spencer Tillman is a freaking douchebag.

Unbelievable how much TN fans continue to amaze me. I've seen far more positive remarks in the national media about the Kiffin hire than I've seen negative ones.

I actually would have been ok with a Gill hire. Man can coach.

Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean they aren't there. CBS and ESPN(for the most part) blasted our hiring of Kiffin. Most of the knowledgeable analysts have liked the hire but the "talking heads" have routinely commented on how bad this hire was. Every day that I watch ESPN, I hear somebody make a cheap shot. The comment I heard last night was "With Lane Kiffin getting a job like UT, then you know that the pool of coaches available is weak."

I'd have been fine with Gill as a coach but I don't think he was what UT needed. Not a big enough buzz would have surrounded that hire. Like him or not, the Kiffin hire has people talking and recruits noticing. I fully believe that our recruiting class would have completely fallen apart with T. Gill hire. Also, that would not have been fair to Gill to follow Fulmer. There is still a lot of racisim in East Tennessee and I would have hated for Gill to have to deal with some of the comments that he would have gotten if he didn't succeed. That would have been very, very bad for UT's ability to attract future coaches.

Well either way, you can consider me a Turner Gill fan. I'll root for him wherever he's at. Assuming he doesn't ever become a Gator or Bammer.

I'll be rooting for him to succeed as well. I think he'd be a great fit in the Big 10 or Big East.

I grew up in Western NC and East TN for over 20 years. I love the area and will move back when I'm raising a family but racism is a fact of life in the area(as it is in most areas of the country). I visited my Grandmother at St. Mary's assisted living center in Halls. My roommate was with me and he is a black guy. When we got off the elevator to her floor, most of the residents were gathered together in their meeting room. The gasp that went around the room followed by utter silence was the most embarassing thing I've ever had to deal with. The second most embarassing thing was the knock on the door to my Granmother's room by a man representing the community asking me not to bring "people like him" back into the building ever again. You tell me how those fine folks would act toward a black HC that unsuccessfully followed Fulmer.
