"you just don't lose to Tennessee"

Whittingham is a coach that's interest me this year.. After the Oregon tonight I love the guy.. He ran it up because of what the Ducks do to everyone and I'm sure they've did it to Utah before I'm not sure but I'm guessing yes.. But I think he would do good here..

Had the same exact thought.

Don't know how much more conservative game calling I can take. If it were me, I would've ran the score up to make up for 2007. But... But... Why do that when we may have.... 1 single mistake????? :eek:hmy::eek:hmy:

Deserved to be fired?? Lol. That's rich. Maybe the way the coaching search played out would help explain the error in that line of "thinking". Legit coaches wouldn't touch this job after we threw a HoF coach in the trash like we did.

And if CPF deserved to be fired for winning all those games, then Butch deserves to be executed for his career record @ Tennessee to this point.

Bullcrap. Brian Kelly or Gary Patterson would have taken this job if offered in 2008. Sumlin would have taken the job a year later.

I'm pretty sure we've beat Florida 4 times in the last 20 years. Wow being a vol fan sucks. We suck at everything. At least we have top notch stadiums/arenas to lose in.

Well boys and girls, I came off the golf course late yesterday afternoon, about dark (because I wasn't about to watch another F up), and came home to find out two things. One, nothing has changed with respect to the FLA series and two, McElwain did more with less and we better get used to losing in this fashion to this team for a looooooong time. Florida hired a better coach and was clutch in the 4th qtr. Let's just all sit back, relax and enjoy our future as a 6-6,7-5 football team with lots of catchy slogans, all our new traditions (grey unis/checker Neyland), the fact that "we are young" every year and all our traditional rivals marking us on their calendar as a W before the season starts. It's the new TENNESSEE!!!

This. If not for a bush league amateur athletic director that couldn't find his @$$ with both hands in Mike Hamilton, we might have had one of these guys and avoided this debacle that is our football program.

The funny thing is is that Florida is not very good at all. Their qb was terrible most of the game. We should have steamrolled them as well as ok. I really feel like both those teams r 7 and 5 or 8 and 4 at best. Yet somehow we manage to leave the door open and make it a game. You can pretty much figure out if a coach has that winning nack in year one. All butch has shown is an ability to talk up the next opponent as if they r the best team in college football and prepare everyone w a laundry list of excuses while we will lose before we ever take the field. Since his arrival in Knoxville, it has been abundantly clear that he is in way way over his head. I mean it's almost comical to watch. However I will give him credit where it is due. I have no idea how in the world he gets any recruits let alone four and five stars to sign w us. I cannot believe parents and recruits don't laugh him out the door He has accomplished nothing on the field while here yet the players still come. UT football can be back in the top ten next year by simply paying the money and hiring a winner. The talent is here. However as stated earlier as long as the stadium is full things will stay as they are and you better believe we will never crack the top ten with old butch.

Yep. Someone needs to make a major peace treaty with Phil. I follow a lot of college football and I'm not just saying this because I'm a fan but I can't think of another established program with our history who has had so many crazy and whack job heartbreaking defeats. I mean, you couldn't write a fiction novel about this stuff if you tried.

That's what helped take the sting off of this loss. I just knew we were gonna give it away. Especially after the 4th and 14 TD. Should have just turned off the tv.

It's not just with Butch either; Dooley and Kiffin experienced some last minute almost inexplicable losses.

I love it. Florida got themselves a big time football coach....Tennessee not so much. Yesterday was, by far, the best and likely ONLY chance Tennessee will ever have to beat Florida ever again in the history of mankind. McElwain now gets to talk all the crap he wants, just like Muschamp and Meyer and Spurrier and Hall have. Florida has never and will never lose to Tennessee. Just the way it is.

Seriously, would you trade coaches right now? Be honest!

I don't remember any with a double digit lead in the 4th quarter.

I never suggested that. I was replying to this post:

Hell yeah! JMac just beat us with one QB and one of his best DBs suspended, with an offense so anemic it could be mistaken for lowly Vanderbilt and his coaching got his players in the right situations late in the game to pull off the win. Damn right I'd take him right now.

Tennessee football is a joke man.. We are the laughing stock and the joke of CFB.. All my Ole Miss buddies, Memphis buddies all of the other schools are laughing their asses off at Tennessee. I'm quite embarrassed and all I can do now is agree with them.. It's quite sad

Butch gets it.

If I had known how it played out, I probably would have kept him. He would have proven that he had lost it in 2009 or 2010 anyway after his recruiting classes began to develop, and maybe we would have hired a good coach at that point.

Never said anything about Butch. This is inexcusable.

No doubt. It has been torturous the way we find ways to lose.

Getting rid of Fulmer without a plan in place was just the start of the problem. Hiring Kiffin after every sign said to do other wise and then hiring Dooley was almost a death sentence.

This program was burned to the ground, and Butch has been here for less than 3 years. He has made his share of mistakes, but if folks can't see progress that's just crazy to me.

It sucks big time to lose 2 big games in row the way we did, but this team and coach are far from over. Most said 2016 was the year; Butch said we were a year away; the fans said we are going to win the East this year and possibly make the playoffs if we can win the SECCG. When you expect things despite facts and warnings, you set yourself up for a big letdown.

Hiring Kiffin was a mistake in hindsight, but no one expected Carroll to bolt from USC. At the very least most people thought he would be here for a few years. I wouldn't do it again because his departure compounded the problems we already had, but there were very few Vol fans who weren't excited during his tenure.

I expected an 8-4 season this year, and I still think we'll achieve that. The thing most Vol fans take issue with is the fact that we dominated the first three quarters of those games and arguably lost because of game management (UF) and overall philosophy (mostly OU). This team has shown that they could easily be 4-0 right now. Butch isn't entirely to blame, but he should take the brunt of it. There's still plenty of time to turn it around; a 3-1 October would probably have most back on his side.

I respect cpf but it was a mess well before he left. We messed up not getting rid of him a few years earlier.

Other than Chavis, there wasn't any real coaching going on after Cutcliffe left. The lazy recruiting and culture were on full display in 2008.
