Now when that VR strip club hits the market, then it will be assault to shoot up the club while folks are enjoying their VR lap dances.

It's dumb and creepy, but criminal? This woman just wants her 5 minutes of fame. It's ridiculous to claim you were sexual assaulted in a video game. That's Jmo and might not be popular, but this is just a "look at me" moment. Our society is so ****ed up now, we have people who legitimately are sexual offenders and we also have people that are offended or scream assault over a damn video game.

Very well put. If you are feeling assualted just turn off the game or take the VR off and report the user. All of they don't have a report system are dead wrong

My assumption that they didn't have an appropriate means to address the issue came from the article the developers of the game wrote in response to the harassment article.

I concede I have no experience with QuivR or HTC. If a block or report function existed prior to this girl's incident, then I admit she should have used that function. Maybe she did and it was ineffective?

To me, the fact that the devs heard this girl's story and felt they needed to make an in-game correction is all the legitimacy I needed. Maybe there was an avenue to block the user, but maybe that function needs to be easier to initiate.

Harassment & Superpowers: Dealing With Harassment in VR

And yes, I know, trolling and harassment happens in ALL online multiplayer video games. It's inherent in the system and in our society. It's just a matter of recognizing the issue, implementing tools for users to effectively remove the threat, and still allow people to enjoy a game on their terms.

If a poster on this board makes personal attacks on me every time I post something, what are my options? Leave the board? Stop posting? Block/report that person? Seems obvious which is the best option there.

If a person pays a lot of money for VR headgear and games, I don't think they should be told to turn it off if they don't like being harassed, while the harasser gets to continue enjoying their experience. Online reporting is spotty and way too ineffective, in my experience. The harasser is the one in the wrong, not the victim of harassment.

I don't think it's something to just laugh off, but I'm not calling it sexual assault. There should be a way to report players and/or ignore them.

Not assault, but definitely harassment. I wish I could post the lewd DMs my ex girlfriend got multiple times daily on her Facebook, Twitter, etc. It happens in online gaming too and it really needs to stop. It's an embarrassment to men and video game culture. Unfortunately, I've rarely seen social media sites or video game services do anything about it.

My opinion it's like pretty much anything else, the whole issue gets politicized. You have pigs who are actually doing this stuff and nothing is really done about it. But then people come along like Anita Sarkessian who start spewing over-critical stupidity and poisons the well, and then in retaliation stuff like the GamerGate thing happens where suddenly people are going up against her and her kind. It breaks out to some big to do where both sides are fighting the extremes and meanwhile, the real issues aren't being corrected.

That is exactly what has happened

this is a pretty weak argument. does that apply to the kids that suck and are getting pwned? They paid money and aren't enjoying it because of the other players, should the winners be punished?

I don't enjoy most online experiences, so I don't partake. it has nothing to do with winning either. I don't blame other people for my experience

If you're harassing them. Getting your ass kicked and being harassed are completely different things. Getting beat down in Call of Duty and sending sexually lewd or vulgar messages in an attempt to harass a person aren't the same. You paid money to play a game, win or lose. Not to be harassed. It's against the terms of agreement and code of conduct on PSN, Xbox Live, and Steam to harass people.

We've talked about this. Two things here.

It's harassment.

But it's not harassment if you lose on purpose so you can be teabagged.

That said, I think you need to write an article to alert the devs. I'm sure they never intended teabagging to be a part of the game.
