There are 3 head coaches in the SEC making more money than TN is paying out to it's Head Coach, OC, and DC combined. That is shocking. If we want a big-time coaching staff here....Tn is going to have to pony up.
TN is actually getting a bargain with their current staff. To be paying this staff what they are getting and to make it to the SEC championship game last year is a steal for the university.

Fulmer - 2,400,000
Chavis - 340,000
Clawson - 340,000
Total = 3,080,000

Saban - 4,000,000
Les Miles - 3,750,000
Meyer - 3,250,000

Heck Saban is getting paid roughly the same amount as our overall combined coaching staff's salary. 4.3 million

Other salaries to look at....

Pete Carroll - 3.8 mil
Mack Brown - 2.8 mil
Tommy Tuberville - 2.8 mil
Bobby Petrino - 2.8 mil....arkansas isn't afraid to open up the wallets

The answer isn't to just pay a coach more money. The answer is to fire the current coach and find the best coach that is on the open market. Brian Kelly or whoever we get next can be gotten for the same (or less money) that Fulmer is getting.

doesn't fulmer go into the $3mil range soon as part of his new contract?

UT has lagged for a while. superior/stoops at UF were making over double what fulmer/chavis were making at one point.

They deserved to make more based on merit.

Rasputin...sure if we get a relatively unproven coach like a kelly, levitt, peterson, etc...
Sure we can probably get by with the salaries we are paying now. But if we get a proven coach we are going to have to change our strategy.

Our problem has not been that we are underpaying coaches. Fulmer is overpaid. But if Fulmer had won 2 SEC titles in the last 10 years and gone to a BCS game every now and then, there is no doubt in my mind that Sexton and Hamilton would have been campaigning for Fulmer to get $4 million a year just like Saban.

If UT pays fulmer more money, he'll win more games? Novel idea---pay for performance!

"If UT pays fulmer more money, he'll win more games? Novel idea---pay for performance!"...not what I was getting at

But I think if they want to bring a guy in here who can win more games they need to expect to pay more money.
