You can't hire a top coach to a dumpster fire

Texas got Tom Herman! That program was in as bad of shape as we was/are and they sit in one the richest talent pools in the country. No one will convince me that Texas has as much tradition and backing as Tennessee. It’s all about getting the right guy and being willing to do whatever it takes to get him.

I thought Pruitt was a desperate hire, but he knows talent and was making some noise in getting talent here again. I just hope he can right the ship, because we still have a long ways to fall still before we axe him and start over again.
Texas was definitely not in as bad of shape as we currently are. And yes, they do have more financial backing than us and about equal tradition. A turnaround would always be much easier there because of in-state recruiting.

It became a dumpster fire because of bad hire after bad hire. Also the way they conducted the last coaching search was bizarre and embarrassing .. The only reason Tennessee is not a top destination is because of the people who run it. It's that simple..

"We're Young and have no depth" every season for a decade
We need to create a UT coach Bingo card. Have all the cliches on there. Might be the only fun we have this season.

Yesterday really sucked, but that’s an idiotic statement. Pruitt has only two classes on his roster so far. Both lines were going to be an issue this year yet you want to fire him before even year 2 has barely started?

There’s a buyout TN is still paying because of Butch Jones until next year. Would make absolutely no sense to fire him now. If anything, they would wait until this contract is up and Jones is paid off so they could actually spend on an experienced HC if they want to still fire him then.

Everyone wants to fire him now yet was saying before this year started that he should have a minimum of 3 years.

Georgia St. was 2-10 last year. They had triple whatever issues TN has with its line.

Are we just pretending like this guy's teams play for him or something? Are we watching different games because there is a pattern covering three consecutive games in two seasons and that's these kids aren't playing for this coach.

We shall see. But you dont know anything as fact.

I sit here and think....has there been a traditional powerhouse that was in as bad of shape as we are in and then found their way out? Is there historical evidence it can be done?

What I still can’t believe is how fast Penn State turned their situation around. I thought they would be terrible for at least a decade, if not longer. Yet after about 3 years, they not only recovered but were better than they were immediately prior to all the Sandusky stuff. I honestly can’t think of another traditional powerhouse that has been down as long as we have. Some people might say Nebraska but they had a lot of 8-4 and 9-3 type seasons mixed in there as well. Obviously Florida State has been really bad lately but they won the National Championship just over 5 years ago. The thing that really sets our downturn apart is how long it has lasted with no end in sight. It’s like other programs go through recessions from time to time, but we are stuck in the middle of our Great Depression.

To all who are calling for Pruitt to be fired I ask you: What top level coach would comer here at the stage this program is in right now? It's a total hot mess. And no, money won't do it either. A top level coach can get a job paying high $ at plenty of other schools so TN is not a desired school these days like some you still think it is. And the many HC changes is mostly how we sunk to this level so keeping Pruitt at least 4 yrs probably makes sense just to see if he can stabilize the program and then maybe a top notch HC can be hired.

I am not a Pruitt supporter so don't flame me for that, just saying take a look at the overall picture of the program before you just call for everyone to be fired. Thats not the answer right now.

Your point is spot on. What I'm amused by is the fact that this seems like an annual post. Seems UT is always ready to fire and start yet another damned coaching search. It's almost like we're playing some video game. Game goes badly and you simply hit the reset button and start over....and over...and over again. Pruitt might not be the answer, but good grief, let's give the man a chance to sink or swim with a roster stocked with the players he has chosen.

Leach isnt a top coach and technically neither one of those would be considered top coaches. They havent won championships.

Sry but Patterson has 17 full seasons at TCU 10 of those are 11 win or better seasons.........that right there is as TOP as Tennessee could ever hope to land.

And you don't get any better keeping a head football coach who is adding to the fire:rolleyes:

I blame Phil Fulmer. Pruitt interviewed for several jobs but got passed over. Their AD"S saw something he didn't have that would make him a successful coach. I remember MS State's Ad was asked why he picked Moorhead over all the other "Southern coaches"? They didn't mentioned Pruitt by name but John Cohen said he puts a premium on intellect and seeing the Big Picture. He didn't come out an say it but he thought Pruitt was a Country Dumb Ass. Time will tell.

Well that pretty much describes Jeremy Pruitt;)
