You can try and blame the refs...

I will never understand why other fans bases post on other team’s message boards.

That one, at least, is a troll. 15 comments in 4 years, and that little remark about "the refs called great fouls"? Nobody talks like that. Moreover, nobody would even think to talk like that on the opponent's board after the game. Not without some intent.

Just a little troll account to use whenever they beat Tennessee -- which is probably why it only has 15 comments.

The officiating last night wasn't great. No Pat Adams officiated game is, at least for us. But I've already said it 100 times, it didn't impact the outcome. It's simple. We play better, or just an average game we win by close to double digits with all the easy shots we missed.

Now, yall want to legitimately complain about officiating??? See yall back here on Saturday night. You'll have a case then.

I’m not exaggerating. He SPRINTED to the other end of the court to engage Barnes. Barnes toed the line of the coaches box and bit his lip. The most unprofessional thing I have ever seen a ref do.
Saw it also. Have no clue why he did it except to be seen on TV. Have no clue how Barnes composed himself at that point.

I was really impressed with your coach when he was here at UTC. Better enjoy him, if he doesnt go to Michihan this year he will be in Lexington in 2 or 3.

Completely outcoached our so called Hall of Famer.
Outcoached? I mean give SC credit for winning but UT played a horrible game offensively. The Vols missed countless layups , open jump shots, and free throws. The team had so many opportunities to win however they came up short and failed to execute. Hard to blame coaching when the players were in the right position to score wide open on multiple occasions.

This loss is on the vol players- missed many wide open shots. It happens and just a bad loss as that game was ugly to watch. Give South Carolina credit.

They called 18 fouls on SC and 16 on us. It was bad but it wasn't one sided. They called three phantom fouls on us right in a row and then did the same to them on drives when their defender had perfect position. We also shot more free thows. This whole the refs are out to get the Vols conspiracy theory is silly. Same thing with the Vandy game. You would think the Mafia got to the refs to steal the game from the Vols reading this board and they only called 10 fouls on us the entire game.

We missed too many open shots around the basket. Aidoo was off

Coach Barnes needed to find a way to up the tempo and couldn't in that reguard he got outcoached. Like I said in another post. Coaches are like players. Sometime the opponents gets the better of them and they just don't push the right buttons. I'll be curious what he changes for the next matchuo with them.

Oh we impacted the game alright, just in all the wrong ways.

Pat Adams says you’re welcome.
Not on Pat Adams. He was terrible (as usual) but didn't not cost us the game. JJJ, ZZ, Gainey combined to go 1-12. Nobody could hit a lay up or free throw. That cost us the game. DK will run himself into the ground trying to carry this team by himself

The problem is that we always do this when the opponent is physical inside. We are just not good at finishing through contact. Yall act like it's a one off everytime this happens. It's a team weakness and some opponents are gonna exploit it.

Should I know who that is?
to be honest, NO you should not know who that is. A referee should have the goal of calling the game and no one knows his name or even noticed him. Unfortunately the officiating is awful and people do know their names. Him and TV Teddy are terrible.

The refs called great fouls. Don’t play the ref card. I was equally pissed at some of the calls on SC.
SC was the better team last night. They came out ready to play. Congrats to your team! The difference between "Sweet 16" teams and "Final Four" teams is the ones who can have an "off" day like last night, miss some layups and free throws, and still find a way to win. Vols need to figure out a way to plug that hole, or they won't be a final four team.

Missed too many shots at the rim.. Missed a dunk even. They were just sloppy and it cost them.. They're going to have to stop standing around and watching Knecht.

Most frustrating game I’ve watched in a long long time last night. Every thing we tried to do was off which included our fan support at TBA. It’s like Barnes has more talent and pieces to play with than ever before, but can not seem to pull the correct levers to make it click.
We can not be one dimensional with only DK scoring while others watch or have that pitiful effort to stop the 3 point shot while leaving them wide open. I don’t know, it’s almost like having a Lamborghini which is running on half the cylinders at times. Hopefully Barnes will figure this out and get it corrected soon. He’s a great coach.

What you said is true but it can also be true that the refs were absolutely horrendous and momentum killers. We should have won the game in multiple facets but the refs shouldn't be held any less accountable because we beat ourselves. Time to hold them to a higer standard.
It will never happen , they have a hard time getting refs at every level and UT is a 10 to 15 point better team than USC jr but they played horrible missing layups/FT 3PT% etc... but when people come on here and take up for horrible officiating nothing will be done. A few things can be right at the same time, UT played its worst game this year at home on offense the refs called horrible and let the USC coach call those 3 back to back to back foul's happened right in front of uscJR's bench.
3 things
1.UT played worst game this year @ Home
2. Refs called horrible and
3.USCjr hit timely 3s.

Why are so many defending the refs? No we couldn’t make several layups and that cost us the game. But the refs were BAD. They completely changed how they officiated from the first half (let them play) to the second half (every touch was called). Did we deserve to win? No. But teams like Kentucky often win games they don’t deserve to win due to getting more favorable officiating at home. I’m not sure we ever receive a beneficial whistle in any sport despite the SEC protecting other front runners. I think this is what drives so many of us crazy.

It would have been good to have had Uros last night.

I won’t blame the refs for tonight’s loss. The players played poorly - too many bunnies were missed, rarely were 2 free throws made, key offensive rebounds were given up after getting stops on lengthy USCjr possessions. USCjr had 10 or 15 point blank baskets. The TN coaches were out coached by the USC staff.

It’s pretty ugly basketball when the game plan is to clear out and have a thick player, not necessarily with basketball skills, just bounce the defender out of his way with his big butt until he’s under the rim. That’s rule interpretation and TN coaches didn’t have an answer.

But as far as refs - I have NEVER seen a ref SPRINT to the other end of the court to get in a head coach’s face before. I don’t know if it was shown on TV, but it was probably the most bizarre officiating for a couple of seconds of game clock that I have ever witnessed. And calling the fouls immediately after SPRINTING to Barnes (who wasn’t even a toenail outside of his coaching box). WTF?

Yeah, I get Barnes' desire to play small ball at that point in the game to shake things up and make something happen, but as soon as it was clear that SC was going to take advantage of that size mismatch, Aidoo needed to be put in the game.

I thought that Barnes panicked a bit in the second half and went away from the ball movement and P&R actions that were working well early except for the inexplicable amount of missed open layups, and settled for DK iso's and the long contested shots, with everyone else standing around. The UT offense resembled the worst of previous years' offenses in the second half except for DK's heroics. I'd have preferred he stuck to the ball movement offense, figuring the easy looks would start to drop.

As you said, two things that have been issues even in recent wins have been the erratic FT shooting and awful defensive rebounding, both of which affect energy and moral, as anyone who has played the game knows. There aren't many things worse than a great defensive stop ruined by giving up an easy second chance bucket. Those will eventually take their toll, and they did.

Dk missing 3/4 free throws late hurt for sure. The pair he missed definitely hurt but we sucked at rebounding and not stopping the kickout 3. You don’t win games missing layups from 7-8 year old basketball up to nba. Seemed like when we got a bad shot by them we just watched them out hustle us and give them another 2-3 shots

We have go back to playing five on five on the offensive end. DK will get his in any type game but it want be enough if others aren't involved.

Agree. We went away from the ball movement and P&R actions completely in the second half, and the offense resembled that of years past with the iso's and forced shots. Having DK is the only thing that kept it at all close, but to me Barnes has to stay the course and hope those layups even out and start to fall.

The awful rebounding and missed FT's need to be addressed pronto, because against really good teams those will be fatal 100% of the time.
