Oh my god, here we go. Lets distract people from how poorly Im doing my job by talking about how someone else is doing theirs. So if Hammy and CLK don't spend money that means I get a job right?? Or is it if the Governor stunts the growth of the economy by choking off spending, because we all know spending is a four letter word, I get laid off. Bredesen should worry about whats going on in Nashville not knoxville.

I just don't get it? Reckless spending!? Do they know how much revenue UT football brings the university when it's successful? Do they know we're not even the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd highest paid staff in the conference? Do these dolts even do research before speaking/writing. Shouldn't Bredesen lay low considering the failure that is TennCare still resonates within the state?

Stop suggesting the difference between INVESTMENT and spending. Your making way to much sense.

This is just grand standing. The Athletic department grants money to the academics each year... I don't know where I read it, but didn't they give around $1 million last year? And I am pretty sure they can pay for the upgrades. This article was a waste of my time!

Who is this Bob Gilbert?

Almost every article he has written, has been negatively against UT and the athletics dept.

I agree that the athletics dept. should make a conscious effort to reduce unnecessary spending in order to help the academic depts. However, there must be a Top-Tier program on and off the field to bring in the revenue to support the non-revenue producing programs.

This Bob Gilbert and others like him are spewing venom from a hatred of UT standpoint. Ignorance should not be overlooked when writing and opinion piece. Do your homework before you open your mouth and inform everyone around you how pathetic you are.

Kind of like spending money on an underground ballroom, huh Phil....

"When your neighbor's enduring hard times is not the time to flash your Cadillac in the driveway," Bredesen said.

Uh, governor, if you'll actually bother to look around, you'll see more Cadillacs parked at trailer parks than in front of McMansions in the state of Tennessee. Poor choice of brand.

Bredesen is being a hypocrite as they continue to work on his underground party bunker at the governer's mansion.

I love the fact that he is spending $30 million to renovate the Governor's mansion and is building a bunker for it as well. Way to go Phil!!

I have a question about the internal working at UT.

Would The Gov.as Chairman Of the Board of Trustees, not have to sign off on all the expenditure going on in The Athletics Dept?

Actually, Bredesen has done a fine job as Governor. That being said, he doesn't need to make public statements on UT athletic dept matters.

UT football generates millions for the university and should be able to spend this money anyway they want, including hiring big time football coaches, who will lead to even more millions from ticket sales, concessions, merchandise sales, etc.

All this talk about the salaries of the football staff is a joke. Last year the program was in the tank and lost tons of money from concessions and souvenirs.

Let's not forget the business's along the strip who suffered loses. But the Gov is concerned on the staff salaries.

There is a difference between price and costs and the Gov needs to learn it.

If you buy an off brand bicycle for $75 and it breaks and you spend another $75 in repairs in 6 months. You spent $25 a month on that bike.

If you buy a bike that costs $200 and ride it for 3 yrs without repair your spend is only $5.55 a month

Bredesen is just another damn Yankee from New York, who does not know his anus from a hole in the ground.

I thought he was spending a bunch of money on his hole in the ground under the mansion. If he doesn't know the difference, we can expect him to spend a bunch of money on his anus too.

Not knocking the guy, but Bredesen is a little nerdy and I wouldn't expect him to be a big supporter of athletics. He needs to realize the funds from this program helps support academics as well. In order to get tv exposure and make even more money, you have to win. To win, you have to get good coaches. Good coaches cost money, but they will also help make you money.

If it wasn't for Tennessee football I wouldn't be going to school here. Let's face it, there are better educations out there, but when I weighed my options, the fact that I could spend my Saturdays at Neyland played a role. Now if only we would have spent this money 4 years ago so I wouldn't have had to suffer 4 years of losing to Florida and two losing seasons.
