You are what your record says you are.

I guess you've been absent the last 24 hours

I've een here and haven't seen a single post celebrating a "moral victory".

I've seen people, like myself, pleased with the 60 minute game plan, execution, and effort that gave us a shot to win at the end but disappointed it fell short.

As I said before, the only people saying "moral victory" are the people trying to diminish the coaching staff.

"This is Tennessee, there are no moral victories" direct quote from CBJ.

Do any of you really think CBJ, the staff, the players really want a fan base that is content with seeing progress over wins? I would hope not.

I'm willing to bet that if you asked him he would tell you that he wants a fan base with a winning mentality that expects to hold him and the team accountable for the record.

He wants a team with a winning mentality. He has stated it over and over that he wants this team to expect to win. Not compete, but to win!

Do you think he wants the team to be content with simply showing progress? I bet not. So why shouldn't we expect the same thing?

No, but if you aren't winning then progress is the next best thing. But winning its the main goal.

This team is MUCH better than years past. I'm not a moral victory guy but we have a few this year.

Another recruiting class puts us where I expect to go undefeated. We are a few key injuries, a few missed plays, and a few coaching errors from 7-0 right now.

We are so close.

I do expect to win out. 9-4 with bowl win is needed for recruiting to continue.

When is the last 9 win season? Been a while.

Next year we should be a contender to make a playoff run. 10 wins worst case scenario.

the fanbase is changing, now you're a negavol for voicing your truthful opinion. sorry but I respect ya and I've seen this before, based on the coaching blunders this year there is reason to be critical of CBJ AND ANYONE WHO CALLS HIS AND HIS STAFF'S IGNORANCE to the attention of others isn't a negavol,
they care more than those who sit idly by and wait. Just a little more impatient.

OK Volnation, what you just witnessed here is a Negavol love fest.

Can you actualy say that after losing at home to Ark.? Player talent you may be close but with play calling in the mix we are much lower. You are what your record reflects. It's why we keep score after all these years

I think we beat Arkansas 8 out of 10

Agreed.

Some of the attempts people make in here idiotic.

Amen. Most analysts had us contending for the east title as was correct based on pure talent. Top coaches know their teams weakness and compensate/adjust to minimize the defect. The players deserve to be 5-2 at least. CBJ is only adding more pressure onto himself and the rest of the staff and he get's another year but he'd do well to quit talking on camera and let his team do the talking on the field which by the way is measured by wins v. losses, nothing else. An ugly win is a win when it comes to championships,(recall clint stoener's fumble '97).

Maybe we just need some clarification from Mr. Webster...

moral victory
noun

:an actual defeat regarded as a virtual victory because of the narrowness of the margin or because of some circumstance that gives satisfaction or hope

Yeah there has been some of this going on. Here was just one gem I came across...

"That's your opinion. Based on the thread title and the person I was responding to I think the past is applicable. Both parties are looking at UT in a capsule and not analyzing their difficulty in schedule, the manner in which they lost against highly ranked opponents, where 2 of the 3 games where played, and what three of the teams we lost to have done to other teams. Couple that with closing the gap from a year ago by taking OU to double overtime, forcing Bama to beat us on a late 4th quarter score in their stadium, racking up 254 rushing yards against a stingy Florida defense, and beating a UGA team we haven't beat since 2009 and I don't think clowns like Sticky Palms or DCamigo are accurately assessing how good this team is.*

And last year does come into play since we started a lot of freshman who are sophomore starters with more freshman starters on this years team. We are a young team taking on squads that have built their program with their current coaches for years. When you take a simplistic view to look at something it just makes you look simple."

This fool was justifying his argument about UT deserving a higher tier bowl game due to "closing the gap" and rushing for 254 on FL. That fits the definition of claiming moral victory.

Exactly how is it stupid? Isn't the record the ultimate indicator of progress? You know, where you win more than you lose? According to you and, I don't know, just about every other member here, losing is irrelevant to progress. Losing doesn't matter as long as you see progress. It's the most backwards way of looking at it that has ever been advocated. Hell we could drop the last five games of the season by 1 point each and by your reasoning as long as we see progress all is good. At some point shouldn't we all be expecting all of this progress to turn into wins? I know, I know they are coming, right?

Look I applaud your optimism, but at some point wins have to start mattering. Progress has to translate to winning.

Unfortunately for a lot here that want to discount the record, you can't. At this point and time we are 3-4, you can't count wins that haven't happened.

I'm telling ya the optimists are coordinating with the new world order. I think CBJ is a general. They appear to want to call a loss some kind of victory. Then use a word like "progress" when every team in the league is progressing at all times in varying degrees. Therefore just as our forebearers prescribed we judge each teams "progress" by awarding them points. The team with most points at games end is called winner. Therefore logic implies teams with more "wins" are naturally making more "progress". Get it ? Wins = progress, progress = wins. Oh it goes much deeper. Some teams have the amazing ability to make great strides in "progress" while playing in a game simultaneously. This is termed "in game adjustments." Teams with this ability generally post more "wins" than those who have yet to learn how to adjust "in game."

Music City isn't better than Taxslayer.

oh, I could've swore I saw it ranked higher than the taxslayer one in the bowl rankings.

Since LSU was ranked #23 with the record of 8-4 when they got invited to it.

Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on with our fans. I suddenly feel like we somehow switched with Vandy.

Me either. Seems like we have a lot of weak kneed fans with unrealistic expectations that are crying over losing to a nail biter against a top 10 team in their own house. Maybe if some you will stop crying, some of us wouldn't have to sunshine pump as much to balance it out.

Guess you guys want the coach on the hot seat again, hey?

No one can deny. I know we have lost very close games, but let the meat of our talent become juniors, and we win all these close games. Special things are in our future! All you naysayers can kiss my ___! Or you can join another fan base, it's your choice. I hope y'all choose to become fans of another team, because I don't really feel comfortable with a bunch of people actually kissing my ___!

And our finishing record will be lopsided with more Ws than Ls.

It's all in where you finish

it's 2016 people!!! you have to admit that we are better talented than the last to eras of Tennessee football....we now are going in the right direction and yea we blew leads but look at Alabama....the just blew UT off....no way we gave them a fight and Alabama was looking pretty scare. We held the lines and were able to score on their so called NFL defense...HA HA HA.....They will not be in the final 4!! Hate to say it but the SEC rep will be LSU in the final 4 at this point...not a given but looks like it may go their way.

I believe in what is going on for Tennessee....if we can only start the year off healthy an in one piece 2016 will be a great year!

So for the last five years Bama beats us by an average almost 30 a game.

Saturday the Vols (players and coaches) go toe-toe with them in their own house with a banged up lineup and a bunch of fuzzy-cheeked kids I am coming to love, show serious grit and big kahones for 60 minutes and narrowly miss.

Some see that as nothing but another loss. May I extend another invitation to kiss mine, too.

You are exactly right; those moaning and groaning relentlessly are not fans

Right, wanting the program to be relevant again is just the worst. All the while shills like you are what being a fan is all about. Blind loyalist with orange colored glasses with his wallet out.

You and people like you are actually more detrimental than even his biggest detractors.

Just too ignorant to see it

You do have recognition of when your sarcasm gets sad and silly...right? Just asking. :hi:
