You are now Tennessee’s Offensive Coordinator: What is your Game Plan vs. Alabama?

Two words: Ethan Wolf.

I really think this coaching staff will come out firing from the get. Almost every game Butch has been a dog in, the offensive game plan has been very successful the first couple of series. I'm hoping EW will have a major part in that. We'll just have to hope that we can put some quick points up and get some positive energy/momentum.

I think we'll all be pleasantly surprised with our overall performance against Alabama. I don't know what it is but I really have a good feeling that Butch is ready to roll.

Incidentally, former Tennessee quarterback Jerry Colquitt made this observation with respect to pass protection for Josh Dobbs against Alabama:

"Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs should stay upright and clean. Talent wise the Vols match up with Alabama in terms of the ability to win the pass protection individual battles. On tape over three games, I didn’t see any of their ends who will pose a problem for Tennessee or anyone who require[s a special scheme] to help protect Dobbs such as Oklahoma’s Eric Striker or Florida’s Brian Cox" (The Tony Basilio Show).

Yep, that's him....same guy who wasn't good enough to play QB for us until his SR. year and then unfortunately got hurt.

It's no wonder that he didn't play sooner.....:salute:

Lets actually run the zone read! We have too many designed runs and don't actually read the defense. Look at the Georgia game. When Dobbs was able to improvise, we did great. I think it was the game winning touchdown where Dobbs had a zone read option that if he kept, he had the option to run the ball in or throw. We have to do more of this. We have the talent. Its time to use it.

do what has been working this year, set dobbs up for a pass run option and execute,it isn't like the Vols haven't been putting up points this year

hopefully the D can get some pressure on Bamas QB,that is what will decide the game, that will be a long shot,Barnett is missing Maggit big time, somebody else will have to step up

and come on LBs have a great game for a change

go Vols

I haven't read any posts here so I apologize if this is a duplicate:

I run no huddle "check-with-me" hurry up. It allows you the ability to go fast, but also the ability to get to the line quick but still make adjustmentsand milk clock when you want. It has to be a good relationship between Dobbs and I to read and call the offense.

I would plan to run Dobbs a minimum of 10 times with a goal of 15-20ish called runs/true read option plays. Get him moving to provide a run threat even when Hurd, Kamara, or a PA pass is the call. We are out matched on the o-line so Dobbs being a run threat takes an extra defender out of every play allowing the matchup to return to closer of a balanced opportunity for the O.

So in short, minimize D substitutions, run hurry-up when the mo' is on our side, and utilize Dobbs as much as possible to take defenders out of the play (equivalent of being an extra blocker for plays to other players).

Play aggressive. Minimize penalties. Win the TO margin. Score TDs (not FGs). Go Vols.

Paul Bain. Unchain the Bain.

Tired old joke aside (people around here seem to love those for whatever reason), we are going to have to connect on a deep ball or two. Without that threat, you all know the result. Also, if we can get a semblance of a run game going, I think a frustrated Bama defense would begin to make mistakes considering nobody has had much success running against them so far.

Use our tight end. Run slants. Bama does have a good D line, but I think the secondary is overrated. Sad part is Dobbs isn't accurate enough to pin em back.

Additional data on just how important special teams play will be in this game:

"Led by Evan Berry, the Vols average over 37 yards per kickoff return and lead the country. Alabama is tied for 49th in the country in kick return coverage. This is an area Tennessee can exploit. Berry has taken two kicks back for touchdowns already this season, and has had some big returns in other games as well. With Alabama’s weak coverage, you could see a big return tomorrow.

When Alabama is forced to punt, the Vols have the potential to make big plays as well. Tennessee, with either Cam Sutton or former Alabama running back Alvin Kamara, deep ranks 16th in the nation with over 16 yards per punt return. Alabama ranks 72nd in punt return defense, giving up over 8 yards per return, including one touchdown.

Even if the Crimson Tide kick away from Sutton and Kamara like Georgia did two weeks ago, the Vols can still make a play. Alabama is in a deadlock for the most blocked punts in the country this season (2). . . . Here is one final outstanding statistic about special teams. Out of Alabama’s six fumbles this season, four came on special teams. Their kick returners have struggled holding on to the ball. Tennessee has outstanding coverage units and has the potential to force a big turnover in the kicking game" (https://footballconcepts.wordpress.com/2015/10/23/how-can-the-vols-upset-bama/#more-1143).

Simple. Let Dobbs do his thing running and hit the TE.

The way you beat Alabama is by running the ball, making Saban panic by bringing in a safety and then going over the top. Alabama's line is sick, as we all know. We can't run straight at them. So the key is going to be to use Dobbs's scrambling ability so they use a spy on him, which opens up the passing game.

Wolf is a weapon and you have to use him to open the middle of the game. Tennessee needs to run this play multiple times and open it up.

Hold Dobb's back for stretch run. Let Dormady get some game experience. Heck he might even kick butt.

Run some I formation and pound the rock, set up some Play action sideline fade routs.

On defense you gotta sell out to stop the run, 8 men in the box. Make them beat you throwing.

First play from scrimmage-70 yd bomb-TD! Have to get the running game going along with the passing game. Have to be able to get Dobbs and Hurd over 100 yards and get over 280 yds passing. Need to put up at least 31-35 to have a sot against Bama and hold them under 31.

1.First, don't retire mid-season like you know who
2.Second shave your head, there won't be any hair to pull out
3. Third have the guts to call the plays to win, play agressive
4. Get to the press box very very early 6:00AM
5. Debord may want extra depends handy, you know, just in case
6. Get a good night's sleep and Enjoy the Win
