You are now Tennessee’s Offensive Coordinator: What is your Game Plan vs. Alabama?

Offensively-We need to do some things we haven't shown yet and be very efficient with the ball. The Defense CANNOT be on the field over half of the game. We don't have to score every time, but we must keep it a while each time...Coach Matthews formula is just fine, just need to get Wolf more involved and throw the ball down the field more, whether completed or not, make them think we are going try to hit them deep, to keep the safeties out of the box and spread them wide and hit them with our 3 backs right in the mouth.

Defensively-We must tackle better than we have, way too many missed sack opportunities. Make cocker beat us with his arm. No runs by him and do all we can to shut down their run game, even if we have to put 9 in the box and go one on one outside. Cam can handle his if someone else will step up and do the same.

When was the last time that we could talk about the Alabama game with a legitimate chance of actually winning the game? 2007?

Remember last season with Nate Peterman at starting QB ... wow!

Thanks Butch & Co. Times they are a (finally) changin'.

Do NOT waste a down running off tackle. Not on that D. Options with Dobbs are the only way to move the football. Hit Hurd/Kamara a few times out of the backfield. Roll Dobbs out with 2 receivers in his sight pattern. "KNOCK A MAN DOWN!"

Control the ball.
Go for it on fourth and less than 3. (past the +45 Yd Line) Tennessee will have to gamble to win this game. That still may not be enough.

Peyton had the NFL schedule his bye week for this weekend. So, we open with Peyton in the gun and he hits Preston Williams on the deep post for an 80-yard TD.

In post-game celebration, Peyton joins Dobbs in leading the POTS

Bama has no safeties. 5 CORNERS on the field. SPEED like we haven't seen. Their front is that good. Not much hitting in the mouth against these guys.

Depends on if our O line can hold back the pass rush. That is the key. If we can't......Dobbs, Dobbs, and more Dobbs. If we are able to match up and stop teh pass rush, sprinkle in some Dormandy on 1st downs or obvious passing downs. Give us the actual capability of going deep. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO CROWD THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. MAKE THEM DEFEND THE ENTIRE FIELD.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD,PROTECT JOSHUA DOBBS, that would be the first words that come out of my mouth to the line.

I agree with Voldaddy61. We should run a HUNH to the line to limit Bama's personnel substitutions and then use an old style "freeze" whereby Tennessee's offense would run the play clock down to 1 before snapping. This will hopefully wear down Bama's troops and help keep UT's defense fresher. If time in the backfield allows, I would have Dobbs pump fake on some screens and throw intermediate to long wheel routes to the inside receivers and backs for chunk plays. On defense, I would sell out with run blitzes on the early downs the way Chavis did last week. I would then back out into man or zone after Bama is behind the chains. Chavis' overly aggressive calls against Bama during their second or third and longs ultimately burned A&M to the tune of first downs. If Bama goes with with three wides forcing UT to go to the nickel, I would go with a third safety playing close to the LOS and dare Coker to throw.

Alabama is going to run a whole lot of man-to-man coverage, or Cover 0, and make Dobbs and the receivers to beat their DB's. They're going to load the box, probably 6 or 7 a play.

While they're not running Cover 0, you can expect a whole bunch of Cover 3 Spy and Cover 1 Robber.

Take away Dobbs' legs, don't let Tennessee run the ball between the tackles, and make Tennessee beat them through the air. They want their best vs. Tennessee's best.

I'd call HB screens, slant routes, occasional deep balls, and TE seams. I would also try Kamara on the pin and pull sweeps while running power and iso inside with Hurd to keep them honest.

Run the ball, play ball control limit their possessions. Then in the 4th with the win in striking distance let it all hang out they should be worn down by then.

Solid OP. I think it's paramount we establish a successful run game, but we need varied and in particular middle of the field pass plays to do so. Rushing is obviously our strength. Alabama knows this and will stack the box in an attempt to stuff the run game as well as disrupt any pass play potential. I think we need to quit wasting time "spreading the field out" by throwing behind the LOS to our WR so we can get anywhere from -2 - +2 yards at best - those are too easy to defend if we can't complete some quick slants or other pass plays across the middle in the face of a pass rush.

Additionally, as the OP stated, we have to ditch the fast tempo unless we get in a rhythm or its necessary at the end of the game to score from behind. We have to win the time of possession battle and limit the time their offense is on the field. We have to play perfect football in nearly every phase. No turnovers, flip the field every time we have to and give Alabama as much grass to cover as possible each possession, and create and CAPITALIZE 100% of the time on Alabama turnovers. We can't afford to be gift wrapped a turnover on our side of the field only to punt it.

Spread the field with three and four receiver sets. Hit Wolf down the middle or on a seam route. Wear him out between the hash marks. When bama adjusts hit them with Hurd and Kamara up the middle on quick hitters and traps. When they take that away hit the receivers with the best matchup. In my mind Wolf and Ellis should catch 10 balls between them this game.

The sweep won't work and the wide out screen won't work and we can't run between the tackle's and we can't throw the deep ball other than that we are in damn good shape, i got a feeling it's going to be a long day for the offense, but i would at least try to throw the ball deep even if i had to put 2 back's in the back field and chip block, we don't have nothing to lose in trying.

We won't slow down one bit somebody has to much pride to do that and it make's to much sense to shorten the game.:eek:hmy:

We'll score and play great if the offensive line can block somebody otherwise were in for a long day. Dobbs can make plays in many ways if he gets OL support. The best he has received thus far in a big game was second half versus Georgia.

Remember that defeatist rhetoric is not tolerated in this thread. Give us your best recipe for success, in light of limitations that may exist in terms of personnel or execution. This is an excellent Alabama team, it is not a great Alabama team; they can be beaten.

Offensively be unpredictable. Throw the ball deep more at the beginning of the game. Slants and move the pockets.

Defensively. If there is no answer apparent then ask someone off the previous staff that knows defense. Yes, embarrassing as it may seem but I have seen us shut down quality backs in year's past with inferior players. Make it difficult on the QB and their staff with schemes.

I expect that CBJ and Staff have war gamed this game since Jan and accounted for attrition and other games. They have had 2 weeks to prep for this game and hopefully have ran through every defensive and offensive scenario possible.

This is about individual match-ups and will power, nothing more, nothing less and nothing else.

I'd have a true split of carries between Hurd and Kamara. Two back set-up. Maybe some I-form with Hurd as the FB. Tosses to Kamara toward the outside. Let that open up the passing game. BAM!!

Excellent solution to the variable tempo problem. Play call aggressively, keep 'bama off balance with tempo but bleed the clock, limit the number of opportunities Alabama has to bludgeon us with that offensive line and REST our defense as much as possible.
