Yet ANOTHER rumor for VN

After being painted as a liar and a overall dumba## by Al Davis i would not count on seeing Kiffen as a head coach anywhere.
Say what you will about Davis, that press conference was very telling.

The press conference showed how much of a control freak Al Davis is. Kiffin was great for that organization, they were definately improving but Al Davis wanted him to be his puppet.

Coaches on the list right now:

Pete Carroll(because he is unhappy with delay of facilities upgrade at SC)
Jon Gruden
Lane Kiffin
Bill Cowher(probably will be approached first)
and while you are going to say BS to this, he is on their list. In fact, Fulmer had to be told to hire him....Dave Clawson.

"

I doubt this is true but even so... Dave Clawson would be the 2nd best option in that list IMO behind Cowher... And does anyone know if Cowher can recruit?

Clawson is young, energetic, smart, and recruits well. He's been successful everywhere he's been and I believe he will be successful at UT in whatever capacity he's given an opportunity at.

Why would anyone say that was "BS"? Because of results so far this year? Look at his career and you see that isn't typical.

i'm pretty sure the name Bill Cowher will bring kids in.

I am sorry, but Dave Clawson over Pete Carroll and Jon Gruden? If you had those guys ready to head to your program and hired Claw, you wouldn't be an AD much longer.

Everywhere hasn't been against SEC caliber defenses..
Hell his offense hasn't even looked good against non-conference teams

What about Jason Garret or Jim Schwartz . Or even a national championship coach who is from Cookville Mack Brown

Pete Carroll is an intriguing thought...but I don't see him attaching to East Tennessee. He is solid California...too much surfer aspect for Rocky Top.

If the only way to stop Clawson from playcalling is to promote him then by all means promote him.

I miss Cuttcliffe (sp.) anyone who can make Duke win just reeks of talent.

Do they have beaches in K'ville with big waves? If so, Carroll might be interested.

Yeah, the 1/4 of his offense that is installed hasn't produced like we would want, but do you honestly believe that the only reason for this is coaching?

He's unlike the others in being proven in the League. His skills fit well there, so if he comes back, he's the hardest of all to imagine coming to UT, for me. I'd see him going back to the NFL for major $$.

Davis is proven in the college game and that's a lot of what I like about him as well.

Caroll would recruit beyond any level we've ever seen and we once were great in recruiting.

I'm not sure how Carrol would work out. I'm sure he'd recruit like a beast but I have not been all that impressed with USC in recent years. They consistently field NFL level talent and still manage to lose 1 or 2 a year that they shouldn't. There's no comparison between Fulmer and Caroll but I don't want to get rid of a good recruiter/bad preparer to get a better recruiter/bad preparer.

All of those names sound good, but most are unlikely. get worried about the "bama" syndrome where we think we can get a top named coach and end up with a dennis F., or Dubois, or something like that, where everyone and their sister are turning us down. I just pray we arent setting oursevles up for didaster. That being said, PHIL, PLEASE STEP DOWN!!!!

Hes only a second year coach in the NFL. The Raiders won two games the year before he came. He Won 4 the next year with the same players. They decimated KC. And would have won at least more than last year. He also has no head coaching experience. He was a Coordinator at USC. The fact he has the Raiders playing and competing every week shows his motivational skills.

Ok get to the Point already!

We could do alot worse that Lane Kiffin, secondly I think if we got him he'd be here a very long time. He's Offensively minded, understands QB Play, and before he was fired had the most disfunctional organization outside the Lions actually competing for victories. I prefer Cowher, or Carroll, but if we could land Kiffin I would take him next. No ifs, ands, or Al Davis's about it.

Lane Kiffin is the rare occassion where getting fired actually helped his resume.

Nor can they afford it after CPF's buyout. If this situation turns bloody can CPF demand his buyout in one payment or will it be as stated previously, over a 4 yr. period? Also, the remaining staff (most are under a 2 yr. contract, right?) must be released and compensated. After their severance packages, then UT must go out and make an offer some estimate to be double to what CPF is making to lure a "proven" HBC to come here.

IMO, Hambone roles the dice and tries his luck again. He goes after a proven Mid Major HBC.

Which means that they probably already have UT's future HC already on staff in Clawson. I know that a lot here are upset with his performance so far(justified or not) but he is everything that most people are looking for except for the major division experience. He's young, a good recruiter and his peers consider him a bright offensive mind. He also has a good offensive staff in place in Drayton and Scott. With the current situation my money is on the AD trying Clawson at HC before throwing 4 to 6 million at someone.
