Yet ANOTHER rumor for VN

The Pete Carroll thing alone proves the post is just some idiot running off at the mouth. He has probably the best coaching job in the country, makes plenty of dough and the place sells itself to recruits. Why on Earth would he move from LA to Knoxville over stadium upgrades!?

Absurd.

don't care for the rumor mill, but being lied to about facilities is a deal killer for guys with big egos who believe their press clippings.

I'd truly love to have Fatboy announce his retirement after the UGA debacle - I mean probable up coming loss. But get Pete out of this? No way - why would he give up LaLa land rock star status, all the money they can throw at him and carte blanche to run the program anyway he sees fit? Nah - he's going to get everything he wants from SC and we'll never see him in Knoxville. Cowher? Very interesting prospect. Do we need a Dave Wanstaadt repeat at Pitt? No! Would Cowher end up like that? Good question..........

Doesn't Cowher live in North Carolina and didn't he quit to spend more time with his family? Could be arguments for his possible interest.

You cannot seriously think that Pete Carroll would leave USC over that, can you?

I'm sure that many join me in finding the Fatboy comment a very strong statement about the quality of the rest of your post. Might put it at the end next go round.

I agree. No way Carroll would leave SC job for UT. Has the whole West Coast locked down in recruiting. The job at UT is alot tougher. Alot harder to build anything close to what he has already has at SC. With or without facility upgrades.

I would love to see Cowher though. His attitude would fit perfectly with what UT fans are wanting in a coach.

I personally think Butch Davis will end up here though when all is said and done. No reel reason I just think he is probably the best we are going to be able to get. Which is quite an upgrade from what we have now.

didn't say that at all. I said it's a bigger deal than you might imagine. I don't think he leaves LA for K'town, but I do know that the facilities debate is one of the biggest to the coaches.

I would like for the scenario of Phil stepping down and Clawson taking over midseason to take place. Then we would see more than a few coaches make calls to the hill.

And your thinking on why he would be a great hire?

He is a winner. And it looks like he knows how to turn a program around in a hurry from the job he has done at UNC. He is a good gameday coach. Which is something we haven't had around here ever even before Fulmer.

There are few coaches who could start with a team on probation and get Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow, Andre Johnson, Bryant McKinnie, Jerome McDougle, William Joseph, Vince Wilfork, Jonathan Vilma, DJ Williams, Ed Reed, Mike Rumph, Sean Taylor, and Phillip Buchannon on the same roster.

If any of it is true or even partly true it's all extraordinary.

Bill cowher would set any team on fire he as a coaching style that call only be equated as to a hell fire and brimstone preacher.

He is legendary in his vol-atility!

The man CAN get in the talent, you have to admit.

You're not a Butch Davis fan?

I like Butch, I'd just enjoy everyones well thought out views on all of this discussion instead of just stating someone would be a great coach.

I like Davis, but think he's just too old, and getting him away from UNC will be hard. If he brings UNC into the top 25, success. If he doesn't bring UT into the top 25, failure.

I just don't see him at his age taking on a task like UT.

What has helped him at UNC is John Blake (Former head coach of Oklahoma) who is one of the best recruiters in the country. If not the best.

I would love to have Davis. But if I could chose from any on the list from the orginal post I would take Cowher, Gruden, Carroll anyday of the week. I just don't think we have a shot at those guys myself. I hope I'm wrong though.

I'd sat the say about Cower being too old and not wanting to take on a task like UT. As a huge Steeler fan, I know he is ready to just lay low for a while. He'd end up at a place like NC state if anywhere. Expectations for football are not the same as here

task at UT has to look less daunting than the one at UNC.

Truth. Truth.

Maybe I'm wrong. I just don't see him putting in all this work and jumping ship to a school where it will be hard to get back in the mix of the conference.

At UNC, if he keeps bringing in talent he has the chance to own the ACC at a rate that FSU did. I like him, I just don't see it.

Something about the thread starting post is either good trolling or good insider stuff.

I'd favor a state 'bailout' for whatever facilities they can imagine beyond what we already have if there was any chance to get Caroll or Cowher.

I'm not as high on Gruden as I would be on either of those guys, but that ranking doesn't matter (e.g. $6M for Carrol or Cowher seems quite reasonable. I'd stay around $4M for Gruden).

Any of these three guys could restore the program quite nicely. The first two win championships quicker.

Caroll's or Cowden's success at UT would be near instantaneous. I don't like Clawson as HFC, but I'm still not ready to throw in towell on him as OC. It's hard to pin the blame, if he, like the rest of knew that Crompton needed to go, but CPF prevented him from making the change.

I think all the conjecture is moot until we've moved on from Phil and put some money on the table.
