I think not. Tom Petty is just good. The guitar riffs were definitely real and Petty was in tune with his band the whole time.

i actually thought about this last night during halftime. his performance was flawless. hopefully it's not true.

Not sure if he writes most of the songs/music but he/they do a great job of making simple rhythms into very good songs.

On ESPN radio this morning they were talking about how bad his voice sounded (because of his age) so I doubt it.

i saw Tom Petty two summers ago and he sounded close to exactly the same last night night as he did two years ago. i might also add that he's probably in the top 10 best shows i've seen. to say he wasn't singing is absurd.

I thought he sounded great. That was one the best halftime shows imo. At least it didnt have a bunch of punks hopping around and waving towels everywhere. Not to mention JJ letting her boob fall out.

I thought it was good, but last year's show was better. And no, he didn't lip sync.

well most big acts these days do have that machine that will fill in their vocals if they are out of tune. i forget what it is called, but it is very common.

I didn't think he sounded bad but it sounded like he was just singing live. If he was lip-syncing they could have found a better track to use.

they have trickled down to more than big acts....makes you wonder why you hear so many bad performances.

Ashlee Simpson may have to lip-sync, but Tom Petty most definitely does not. I thought he could have diversified his set a little more. A halftime show doesn't make for a long set, but 3 songs were from Full Moon Fever. Other than that I thought he was pretty good.

For those of you who don't like the "old farts", you have only Janet Jackson to blame for that.

I don't think Petty did but the chick that sang the national anthem sure as hell did.
