Yep, I've Gotta Be That Guy... Ugly Win

Good a place as any for this. During the “lost” 88-89 season, we piled up 6 straight losses and there was no indication that it would stop. Johnny Majors, in what I personally believe to be his greatest coaching performance, went full nuclear option! Fired HOF DC Ken Donahue, replaced him with the RB’s coach Doug Mathews, switched RB’s to corners, linebackers (Shazzon Bradley) to DL etc etc. Won the last 5 games of a season with no chance of a bowl game, INCLUDING the game against Kentucky where we held a 4 POINT LEAD at the goal line in the closing minutes. 4 straight charges at the one yard line...4 stuffs! Of course the very next season started an epic run of Vol success that never truly fizzled until 2005. Defining wins are defining. Character of players need a true test and these guys passed!

Keep the orange pants vs. Mizzou and maybe even Vandy. Calling that road win "UGLY" deserves for a man or boy that wrote that article to run the gauntlet from the 2 yard line vs. the Vol defense one time and tell Bituli/Al Wilson, Toto, Warrior, etc. how ugly it was for you to have to observe.

Super proud of our boys. That wasn’t an ugly win to me. That was a gritty win. On the road, against a very physical team, coming off their bi-week, with a very mobile QB. They had 1st and goal for the W and we snatched it like a purse. That is not an easy task, especially with a banged up O-line and a bad QB situation.

Don't get me wrong I love that we pulled out a win today but that game was ugly and it drug out all the way to the last minute. Letting Kentucky score 13 unanswered points in the 1st quarter is just shameful. Our D was very slow to show up to the game but they did finish it. Completely avoidable penalties cost us. Missed tackles all over the field tonight. 12 men on the field after a timeout, come on Pruitt, wtf?

But... we won, go Vols!
The good thing is they did not score any more points the next 3 plus quarters and that include that rediculous fumble late in the 4th quarter. The deefnse rose to the occasion and the offense scored 17 unanswered points. We finally got an SEC win on the road and are in a good position to go bowling this Winter. The Missouri game should be interesting. Can we finally beat Missouri? Can we win another SEC game on the road? The week off will really help our chances to win out and play in a good bowl game. The offense must get it's act together for an entire game and surely we can beat Vandy at home after the way they were drubber yesterday. I really look forward to next year's team and the added competition at the QB position when HB arrives for the the off season and Spring practice.

6th game in a row without a bye, against tough competition, not surprising it was a tough “ugly” win. The best teams win the ugly ones too.

If you cant enjoy that win, you have problems.

We are basically using smoke and mirrors at the most critical position on a football team.

My will power has been tested sooo much this season. I have not had a cigarette since August 18th. If I can make through this far without one I like my chances of finally kicking it. GO VOLS and thank you Lord for keeping me strong. I can do this and so can my beloved VOLS!!
As a former smoker, I salute you and suggest you consider changing your screen name.

We lost to Georgia State six weeks ago and now we are bitching about wins...

You know, you can be happy with the win but fairly critique a team that was sloppy and in no way prepared to play when the game began. Kudos to them for hanging tough and finishing with the goal line stop. This team needs wins so you have to happy they got one, but they played poor, sloppy, uninspired football for most of the night vs a sub .500 football team....gotta get that cleaned up or they’ll lose in 2 weeks at Missouri.

You can

But even the coaches dont start "critiquing" as quickly as some of you guys.

We won when we could have easily lost..it was ugly..our defense struggled and yet after being on the field 42 minutes of game time they dug deep and won the game. 11 guys on the field with no quit in them..that is a thing of beauty and should be celebrated and savored for at least 24 hours

I just bought a lot of nicotine gum and also have a vape. Fear is a great motivator. I wish you good luck with your efforts. I hear if get past the first month the odds of quitting go way up so you got this.

I havent smoked since June 30th 1999. Prior to that i was a pack and a half per day smoker.

For me i quit one craving at a time. I told myself eveytime it got bad that i would smoke later in the day but could deal with the craving for 15 minutes or so. Also avoided the places i smoked if possible and driving was a bi..h. Put a rubberband around my wrist and popped the crap out of myself when i was about to give in.

But IMO quitting one craving at a time was what got me clean from the nicotine.

I would probably not be a fan of college football if every team ran a offense like UK ran last night. Very boring football and they seemed to have their real QB available. I don't get it.
FSU really wants this guy Stoops as a coach. It was not working 2nd half. Like our running game was not working most of the game but we adjusted.

Kentucky remained scoreless the whole second half. That was NOT by accident. Sheesh.

I'm truly happy for the win, even if it was a ugly one . . . and it was ugly.

Sincerely hope the Vols keep it up so they can go bowling.
