Year 4 ... Same Old JG

Eh.
The defense had a solid first half. They scored as many points as the offense did.
Then played poorly in the second half outside a couple series.

Having said that, we wernt very consistent on offense either.
1/9 on 3rd down, several poor throws and reads a drop and a missed FG. We should have been up 10 to 14 points at the half. And on cruise after the first TD of the second half.

Chandler had a solid game. Jones adds an extra look to the offense.

His scramble was probably the best run of his career. I don't get the vibe of jitters being a factor for JG. He simply struggles to put proper touch on his passes. He did not throw a dangerous pass all night that I remember. One of those would have been the difference since our team never put them away.

I think JG had one of his best games from a decision making standpoint...and one of his worst games concerning accuracy. Too many passes high or behind the receiver. If he made half of the ones he missed, he'd have ended up with a 300+ yard game and a 14+ point victory.

I'm not going to be overly critical of any player or coach on that game since we don't know all the challenges they've had with missing players. This season is just going to be odd and unpredictable.

Watching JG for as long as we all have, I'm beginning to think its comparable to my golf game. I could play every day for the rest of my life, and every now and then, hit some good shots, but on the whole, there is a ceiling I'd hit and it's a mental and physical ceiling. Hoping the off season, second year under Chaney, and the healing of his hand would put him in one of the elite qbs - all coming together. Gotta say, there were some things I saw from him that weren't bad at all. Didn't slide on his run and picked up some yards with some nifty moves. Found Gray on an flea flicker outlet that worked out nice. But those third down passes where the guy is open and he puts it in the bleachers.. THAT is my golf game in a nutshell.
The golf analogy is probably a good one. He is who he is at this point, regardless of who everyone wants him to be.

He missed some throws and was high on a lot of his passes, but he seemed to make the right reads most of the time and he didn't turn the ball over. He didn't play as well as I hoped he would, though.

JG missed a lot of plays tonight. Chaney needs to understand the run game is our strength. If he does we might be alright.

To be fair, 2 big throws were dropped. Though it is obvious that JG still has a problem overthrowing receivers. Hopefully it's just 1st game jitters. Otherwise, I was happy with the performance. Especially late game.
More like 5th year jitters, just jitters, JG needs to just practice and let others play when it counts

Seems like I've seen here that practices were missed so I'm pleased they were able to get a road win.

Consistency would be great. JG made so many good throws but missed so many throws. Hopefully he gets it figured out. Just happy we got the win.

Also I noticed most of the game JG looked crisp with the fakes and Strong arm but as usual he doesn’t or hasn’t learned when to throw a dart or to lob.. it drives me crazy how inconsistent he is at times but I will give him the command and handling of the offense he has as a senior.. jus wish he would be more accurate and calm down..

JG is not the guy. SC is terrible, SC defense is terrible. We had enough talent to score 60 tonight. The outcome was uncertain until the muffed punt we recovered. JG’s poor play almost got us beat tonight in a game we should of won by 28 points minimum. The SC program is in freefall. Muschamp will likely be gone in 2021
Lol you’re drunk. JG is a bad passer though. At least he did go through his progressions for the first time maybe ever and avoid catastrophic mistakes. Not a terrible first game his passing ability is what it is

JG showed tonight that he is the guy to lead this offense. When we had a lead built up, and our defense let us down, allowing SCar back into the game with a serious threat to comeback.... JG and the offense stayed calm, and were able to do enough to win the game.

Happy for our offense, hopefully the defense can get it together for next week. As for tonight, I'm thankful we had a QB that didn't make a mistake when the momentum was completely against us. We haven't done such in the past few years.

You’re this kind of guy, aren’t you?

And the freshman DB tripped on the TD and Johnson pulled in a 1 handed diving miracle....drops happen like trips happens...problem is of his 19 completions very few were on target.... a completion doesnt mean its a good throw

We can't open the run game up if we are not a threat to pass. We will never have a consistent running game unless we have a consistent passing game.

Our online was opening up massive holes for the most part all night. They had one or two rough plays but other than that we're as advertised. We need to run to set up the pass, certainly not the other way around. We ain't a Big 12 team lol

JG was not at his best tonight for sure. He overthrew his WRs on several big 3rd downs and in my group chat with my brothers I was cussing him lol. But you know what he DIDN'T do? Turn it over. And when SC tied it up he hit two perfect passes, the second of which was a TD. He was 19/31 for 259 and a TD for a very healthy 8.4 YPA

Always nice to read these sort of posts after we get gifted a win, and after watching the performances of QBs like Kyle Trask and KJ Costello earlier in the day.
It’s truly sad that there are some people that watched him play today and thought he did good. Sure, he made a couple of nice passes. But he missed so many wide open receivers it’s not even funny. I was hoping we tried someone else by the 3rd drive. Sure, our defense didn’t look great tonight. But we could have scored MUCH more than we did with a good QB.

I think that Vol fans rectums clench so tightly before every offensive snap that they do damage to their sphincters (hah , try spelling that one after a few beers). This condition is known as Guarantanal.
