And Vandy under Franklin has won more SEC games than Tennessee for 3 straight years - many more.
You simply cannot inherit a team lacking in SEC quality talent, little to no depth, inexperience at most of your skill positions, and a roster full of guys who have played in a culture of expecting to lose, and turn it around in one year. I'm simply amazed at the lack of perspective, historical context, and overall lack of knowledge of how college football works that this board has displayed the last 18 hours. It's truly stunning.
And before someone throws Malzahn out there, he inherited much more talent and a roster full of guys who knew how to run his system and knew how to win.....they're only 2 years removed from a NC.
Nick Sabans first year at ALA 2007
1 Western Carolina (W) 52-6
2 Vanderbilt (W) 24-10
3 #16 Arkansas (W) 41-38
4 #22 Georgia (L) 23-26 vs #16 ALA
5 Florida State (L) 14-21 vs #22 ALA
6 Houston (W) 30-24
7 Ole Miss (W) 27-24
8 Tennessee (W) 41-17
9 #3 LSU (L) 34-41
10 Mississippi State (L) 12-17 vs #22 ALA
11 LouisianaMonroe (L) 14-21
12 #25 Auburn (L) 10-17
13 Colorado (W) 30-24
Even though they did go to a bowl game his first year against Colorado, look at who they lost too, and sometimes lost as a ranked team.
You cant judge a coach on his first year.

What is your point here? You can always find players like this. For example, Jason Whitten is from Elizabethton, how many offers did he have? Inky Johnson? Need I say more!
Guys, I don't think a lot of people realize just how shallow and bad we were. It was so apparent during the Oregon, Bama and auburn games. If we would have lost to Oregon or Bama by 14-21 I would say that we are almost there, but we got shellacked. If Bama and Oregon wanted to hang 70-80 points on us they could have. We need to also remember that these kids coming in are awesome and I'm stoked about them, but they will be freshman. I would consider a 7-5 season next year good with a 8-9 win season with a bowl win to cap it great. We can't truly "judge" Jones til the 2015 season. Just my two cents.
You're talking about how Vandy has a talent advantage. I disagree. They may be getting more out of what they have but in overall talent they are behind UT.
UT wasn't playing Bama, Oregon, or Auburn last night.
Totally agree. They aren't the Vandy of old but they aren't as good as us. If we would have executed and taken advantage of their TOs as well as the fact that half their secondary was out we should have won handily.
