ACC Crew was bad for UT this year Pitt and Perdue. The biggest disappointment for me was DL Play. They led this Defense all year but in this game didn't disrupt any part of their game. Down 3 of your top 5 corners and Haddon was playing one armed we needed big game from DL. In CHRIST Alone

I’m a bigger dumbass than you friend because I say we won 9 games. Ole Piss was literally handed that W. The strip sack would’ve been the game winning touchdown.

In one way it is almost better that we got screwed out of the win.
Our returning players can now have that chip on their shoulder during the off season.
Plus being looked at in a sympathetic light nationally is kind of a refreshing change especially after the tremendous stank that Pruitt left on our program.
I have seen the “chip on their shoulder” nonsense on here so many times. Has it ever actually made a difference for our team?… no. Better to just win than worry about some stupid revenge being the key to success.

You going to take his word for that or the text from the NCAA rulebook that has been shared several times on this site? You cannot unblow the whistle YES, but where the ball is near the goal line when the whistle is blown is reviewable.
Forward progress is not reviewable. But spotting of the ball is.

I'm not upset about the officiating. The thing that upsets me is The last drive of regulation. You had the game won, but decided to get cute. The game should've never went to OT
True, but don't forget the clear and blatant uncalled PI. Tillman had 6 and we win the game in regulation.

I watched the A to Z sports podcast last night on Youtube and they brought up a good point. The play was ruled dead because his forward progress had been stopped according to the official. That is not reviewable and it does not matter when the whistle blows if the ref says forward progress was stopped. So there could be no video review because forward progress is NOT reviewable. The way it played out was Correct, the problem is the CALL by the referee was INCORRECT, his forward progress was only stopped for .07 seconds before his final lung sticking his arm out and scoring. If this play happens in the middle of the field they let it go until the player is on the ground. The referee should never have stopped the play on the goal line in that situation.
The problem is it shouldn't be subjective to an imaginary point in time. The play should not be dead until the whistle blows regardless.

But for the first time in my life I won't accept a loss. We didn't loose this game. The officials robbed our team flat out. To hell with what the record books say. We won this game. We had a 8-5 season and no one will convince me otherwise. I know how crazy I sound but I don't care. If they are that shi**y at their job then why should I respect their judgement and decision. . Those kids fought their a**es off only to have a couple stupid or corrupt pinheads say "no reality is what I pull out my a**.

Yup I'm an idiot for my Vols but I don't care. My passion for the Power T made what happened on that field personal for me. I'll never accept that score because those refs blatantly took that last touchdown away.

Okay stupid rant over and flame away lol. I do not care, For the first tie in my life I don't care what the scoreboard says. Tennessee won last night. End of story.
I agree with your title. :)

Tom Ridder, long time SEC head official, said this morning on Doug Matthews show, that he “didn’t understand why they went to review because they can’t review that.” He said you can review forward progress if the play resulted in a change of possession such as a turnover, not in that case.

Now, that’s 2 college officials that said it wasn’t reviewable but what do they know, right?
Forward progress is not reviewable. But spotting of the ball is.

Below is the link posting the NCAA rule book. Obviously referees botched this to begin with, so it does not amaze me in the least bit that many other referees are misinformed or just plain ignorant to the rules of the game they officiate. I do know these are facts:

1. Official said he felt forward progress was stopped before the whistle blew.
2. The whistle blew after the ball crossed the plane of the GOAL LINE.
3. When forward progress is determined to be stopped, the ball is DEAD.
4. Rule 12 (Instant Replay) Section 3 (Reviewable Plays) Article 3 (DEAD Ball and Lose Ball) e. Clearly states that forward progress is reviewable in GOAL LINE situations.

Again, other referees saying it was not reviewable just goes to show the ignorance in this profession. They may be good folks, but they need to read the rule book. Check out supersmo 18's post of the rule book itself.

Forward progress is reviewable…

And that is really the entire issue here. Review? Don’t review? But the problem is the official CLEARLY making an incorrect call. These things don’t stay with me long and I move on but the simple, honest fact is…. it’s just a bad call.

Heard it said that ACC and NCAA will quietly write UT a letter of apology and acknowledge the blown call and support the touchdown... all on the downlow.

FINE. Call on UT to follow North Carolina's example and RECORD the game a victory. I agree with the 8-5 record claim. GO VOLS. BEAT CORRUPT OFFICIATING! ACC officials are on a par with SEC officials. A stink surrounds their arrival at any game.

I also noted the refs tried to screw Nick Saban once or twice last night and he UNLOADED.

Follow-up to first post... same thing happened to AU and MSU in their bowl games.

Glad to see USCjr, Bama, Georgia and BabyBlue get wins.

The officiating was beyond bad. A couple of things about the last drive. We don't know what the call was in terms of who the primary receiver was. The pass interference call (that should have been called) would have been huge. Every game both win or lose you are able to go back and nit pick a handful of calls.

Beef up our guys to be stronger. And find our biggest, meanest looking fans sitting close to the field. Weight lifters, bikers, maybe a few wearing prison garb. Have these pinheads thinking they better call the game straight or they ain't makin it outta here. They don't need to threaten them or any of that stuff. All they need to do is be visible. Especially where the tunnel leading to the field is.

Trust me. Seeing Grandpa and the kids on the way in doesn't effect them at all. Seeing people that could be their worst nightmare? It is amazing how fast they suddenly become competent. Laugh if you want, but it works.

Not to beat a dead horse, but not debating whether or not the guy called progress but the proper spot of the ball which would have been in the endzone when the official blew the play dead after it crossed the line. I also need someone to explain why he came in pointing at the ground like they only do when pointing to where down by contact point is. From the time he first fell on top of the defender till the ball crossed the goal I cannot get "One Miss" out of my mouth, much less the issippi. But even if a quick whistle it was after the score. At least the one I heard.

Exactly - the chip on the shoulder is worthless compared to the win in the pocket

We had chances to win. When you run as many plays as Hoops’ offense some aren’t gonna work out. Penalties and 3-6 on 4th down conversions cost Vols that game in regulation.
The holding call with less than a minute on Tillman cost us the game. No hold he probably runs underneath the ball TD game over. If not they call the hold and we’re in FG range with timeouts and could’ve ran the clock out. Then attempted the FG. Even the commentators one being Rogers a Ex Vandy QB. Stated that they could’ve at least given us that one considering all of the calls on Tennessee.! All the others you were talking about I agree. But they’ve got to do something about these so called injuries. I’ve heard several commentators this year saying it’s simple. DONT allow that player to come back in during the possession. They had at least two players taking turns faking injuries if not three players. I don’t care what anyone says this was the game plan.

You answered your own post. Reviewable plays are dead ball and lose ball. Not forward progress. I’m not debating that forward progress was stopped or the whistle didn’t happen until after the ball crossed the goal line.
