You do know the year before he got here we beat UGA and USCe handily. Took national champ Bama to the wire and played reigning national champ Florida to the wire. These have been down years for UF and we still can't get a win. Getting beat by 17 is not toe to toe with Florida.

Yes...beat sc and ga...lost to UCLA..fla...13/23...auburn..ole miss...and beat ky in overtime..ala...and va tech

We hired Coach Dooley. I thinks those calling for an interim were right.

No! Love him or hate him at the very least he brought stability and talent to this team. If he is fired the program the new coach inherits is much better than the crap Kiffy and Fulmer left!

He served a purpose but it is time to unhitch and hire someone that can get us to the level we wish to be.

Yeah, after a complete meltdown of the football program.

Funny how you guys try to put the buggy in front of the horse.

I defended this coach with every post up until three weeks ago. He will not get us there. I want what is best for our team. This job is a take for a great coach now. He just isn't going to get there.

This is like blaming Obama for the stuff Bush has put us through.

It is all Phil's fault. It all started when won that National Championship and he made everyone believe that 9 wins is barely a winning year. I wish he hadn't caused all this. Yeah it is all his fault. We thought we could go out and just replace him with a great proven coach that could just pull recruits from Tennessee. But it turns out we need a national recruiter.

Hopefully Dooley can turn us into an 8 win middle of the SEC pack team with a few 4 star players.

At this point I think we should at least honor his contract. Dabo got 4 years at Clemson and everyone thought he should have been fired. How'd that turn out?
he won games from the start. Thats apples and oranges! Guys please show me any proof at all we are in the top 3 in the sec east? We have gone back and forth with Georgia for many many years now we play them close and you guys want to give him 2 more years lol

Hell, if we were closing the gap and recruiting to compete with Georgia, Florida, and the rest we could look forward to bridging the gap in talent at least. But we have a coach whose recruiting is mediocre and who has not proven he can get the most out of what he does have.

Rivals would disagree

2011 rank #13 (one spot behind FL)

2012 rank #17

I give you that he isn't up there with AL, and GA but mediocre???? We got plenty of talent on this team and he is at least somewhat responsible

If Dooley is going to be coach in 2013 (and I believe he will be), there must be a contract extension. That's right ... MUST be. Buyouts are negotiable and should be leveraged in the contract. But a head coach in the SEC cannot recruit the athletes needed with a lame duck contract. No stud linebacker or pack mule running back is going to go to a program with a coach that doesn't even seem likely to be there for his college career. The recruits will be those that are scorned by others and left for the FCS schools. That's no way to build a program back to the level demanded by all of us.

Believe me, i want dooley to turn things around, but to give him a contract extention is nuts.. what has won? Nothing! Infact he's lost to a team that we should never lose to, and as far as his great recruiting.. where have we been ranked in the SEC? Middle to the bottom of the conference. That isnt gonna get it done when bama, florida, lsu, georgia are out recruiting us in every postion with 4 and 5 stars, and we only got 3 and 2 stars..

Up another contract!!!!!!

Dooley has shown a lot improvement. Even thou our players weren't ready to beat UF and UGA yet, We wen't toe to toe with them. I think if we go toe to toe with Bama and beat Miss St, we should give him a contract. Dooley walked into one of the worst mess in college football. 3 coaches in 3 years isn't something every program does and still have great seasons. Also, Firing Dooley would be stupid because we will lose recruits, players, coordinators, etc.... I don't want to start over again. We finally have a team that can compete in the SEC. Why put us back another 3 more years? That means 3 more years of losing to UF, UGA, and Bama. I don't want that and you negavols don't want that.
Go Vols!!!!! VFL!!!!!!!:)

great post!!! we should be thankful he took the challenge!!!

You are absolutely right...best thing that could happen is hart extend his contract and let these recruits know our coach will be here regardless...

I agree. We aren't where I wish we were but I believe Dooley is on the right track. But it sure makes you think in retrospect, Fulmer was fired for two eight win seasons, something we just wish we could do now
