Yeah, but their recruiting is so bad, they just cant get it done. Duke is widely known as the worst college in the us for football. I dont watch a ton of their games, but.catch some for time to time. Thier team is usually fundamentally sound, they simply dont have good players, and not like this myth we have floating around here, they actually dont get good.players. Daniel Jones was good, but that is it off last years team.

I would gladly take one losing season in the last six years and five bowl games. Not to mention their 3-1 start this year. But yeah, historically they've been bad.

Sorry, but this is not accurate. Duke had been pretty dang good since Cutcliffe took over. Certainly a far cry from "the worst college in US for football."

I dont mean there the worst team, I said they have been a Solid team under Cut. I mean the worst place to go to play football in terms of recruiting. Not many good players will want to go to Duke, add in the academic standards and its a difficult place to recruit to. Cut has definitely overachieved there.

They do get good players. It's just that the "good players" they get fly under the radar in the recruiting rankings.

The recruiting rankings are not some sort of absolute truth. Great college coaches are great talent evaluators. Plenty of good and even great players fly under the radar every year. Some coaches have a knack for finding those players and coaching them up. Cutcliffe is one of those coaches.

Fuente struggling at VT is one of the most surprising coaching stories IMO. I honestly think his Memphis teams could beat his VT teams.

And it's not he's facing a Murderer's Row of opponents every year in the ACC Coastal. Just weird contrasting how ridiculously successful he was at Memphis versus how mediocre he's been at a school with a much greater history, resources, facilities, access to top recruits, etc.

If something is said enough it becomes fact for many people.

If it wasn’t said enough and then not believed by enough this whole sham over the past decade plus would never had worked.

People probably think UCF and Utah must be loaded with 5 star recruits. Wisconsin is consistently good, they must have a top 10 class every year......they have to because they even play in a tough conference.

Tennessee can’t beat other bad teams with decent to good talent (talent better than those other “bad” teams).......yet somehow when they get better talent they will beat good teams.

. The Hokie fans totally embraced Fuente especially when he kept Bud Foster. But the loss to ODU last year was as ugly as our GAST loss. Couple that with poor quarterback play and an offense that just looks lost and Fuente has burned much of his good will.

As a point of reference, I was at Duke/VT game (fan of VT and Coach Cut) and I think UT beats both of them.

No Duke is not a football power and recruiting there is not easy. However Coach Cut has continued to elevate the quality of players on the roster. As mentioned earlier they are well coached. He understands once you get the lead you step on the gas.
