We have gotten several threads about this, but I could possibly see the 34 as a change of pace to throw a different look at a team like Florida when they start running the Spread Option.
You need a boss nasty DT to run a 3-4. A true metal eating Nose Tackle. Tennessee.....doesn't have that....unless you are saying he would be that nasty NT.
The 3-4 is only effective if you keep the center and the guards off of the linebackers so that they are free to scrape and make plays. Sometimes you can create assignment problems at the line of scrimmage, but you are still counting on your linebackers moving freely.
Exactly. With a 3-4, d-linemen are responsible for 2 gap assignments, and that requires experience as well as size at end. This is something we don't have, so unless there is a total personnel change at DE, a regular 3-4 isn't likely. We will run the 3-4, I think, in spurts as well as Chavis' chaos defense, where the linemen play straight up, moving around.
