This was supposed to be a throw away season because no Nico, WR’s dropping left and right, loss of talent across the board. AND THEN we actually looked good in the opening games (Georgia) then we powered through some weird games (ARKY always been a thorn on our sides) Now we face our surging rival and get deservedly beat and the sky is falling???
THIS

I know it’s easy to go back to “we suck” again but I don’t think we do… at all!

Tighten it up, get up and slug the next F-(KER in the face!

GO VOL OUT!

It’s not the loses for me, it’s who they are losing to. Fl, Ga, and Ala have dominated us for 2 decades. This team could have beat them both but bad coaching, drops, no reliable backups at corner, and continuous penalties cost them again. All loses are not the same to me. And this from a fan who loves Tenn teams and still goes to sleep well, even after a loss. It isn’t my life.
Sports are like the coliseum games, they take our mind off what is actually going on in real life. A strange combination. Passionate but realist.

Who called this season a “throw away”? Certainly I never thought that way.

Next man up and let’s go!

With NIL and portal, teams retool every season. The game is more about how good the GM is and not developing young players dedicated to school tradition.

I like Heupel, but till he quits coaching scared in big games, develops a killer instinct at home and on the road and the team learns how to tackle, the same $h!t will continue

How can you say no reliable backups at corner? The backups are the ones that have been starting just about all year. One is a true freshman, and the other is on his way to making All SEC. They should be backing up an All American and another guy who was supposed to be high level.

We went to the playoff last season. That is “the top.”

There is only one more step to take, and it is a big one. And one that hasn’t happened many times in our history.
If you expected in 2021 for Tennessee to he competing for a National Championship after 4 seasons, you were way out there.

Expectations change when you see the product on the field. We should have beat Georgia, and came just short. That’s just how it goes sometimes. Aguilar is a clear upgrade from Nico. The offense is better. It’s disappointing because if we had a solid defense this year we could make a lot of noise.

Valid point OP. I completely agree.

Just tired of the excuses why we can’t get back to the top.
Especially since the same mistakes keep happening over and over and over.
1) inability to stop conversions on third and long.
2) terrible tackling
3) Stupid penalties.

All three of these are coachable. That is why it is so frustrating to see them happen (and often get worse) game after game during a season.

If TN doesn’t dominate KY, I’ll sell my Vols gear
I hope this is blue font, esp. since I doubt we stomp KY. At this point, you “are that your are.” TN is a good team, not a great team. We’ve had moments, esp. during GA game.

We looked avg since that game and i don’t think we can flip a switch and correct all the mistakes. This team hasn’t improved since GA.

....why our DBs can't turn their head around
....why our starting TE can't catch easy passes - but apparently the backup TE can
....why our clock management is typically a mystery
....why our LBs start at UT and couldn't at Uga, Bama, Fl, Lsu, etc.
....why our 5* WR (Matthews) drops balls which should have been caught
I could go on...

It was projected as a 8 or 9 win year which is more than likely, unless they start playing smarter football. Maybe tackling someone or not looking lost in coverage. Ohterwise they're headed right to where eveyone thought they would. It's a young team but this late in the year not tackling is kind of a effort deal.

Yeah, I mean "winning championships" is not the norm for our football program in modern times. Since universal integration in 1972, we have won 1 national championship and 5 SEC championships (2 of which we actually finished 2nd in the standings but Florida was on probation). In any event, we haven't won either championship in 27 years. I think we can win both but it's not like it's been a common thing around here the last 50 odd years.
