Lol. Ok? You won't get it. Gus and Steele aren't exchanging Christmas cards this year in case you haven't been following Auburn's coaching search. But they still win more than we do. I don't care how we win. I'll take a defensive juggernaut. I want stability and respectability first and foremost.
For the record...Gus isn't my #1 choice. I just see the benefits to having him here.
They are pretty good. The definition of a good contract: both parties are happy with it for the entire term. I'm sure UT is not happy with the Pruitt contract, so it's not a good contract. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I could have negotiated far better contracts with Dooley, Butch and Pruitt than UT did.We need to check your stats
Is it bad that I'd settle for OK for a little while?Lol. Ok? You won't get it. Gus and Steele aren't exchanging Christmas cards this year in case you haven't been following Auburn's coaching search.
You would be getting the reason Auburn has had OK teams instead of great teams. Not the reason Auburn has had OK teams instead of terrible teams (Steele).
You won't get OK. Gus's offenses are not OK. They are God awful. You guys are implicitly saying you expect a career OC in Gus to come in here without his defensive staff and turn us into a defensive juggernaut. That's what you are expecting if you expect him to replicate what he has done at Auburn in the last 6 years. Is it bad that I'd settle for OK for a little while?
We have to be realistic about where we are, where we want to be and most importantly, how we can get there.
Step 1 has to be respectability. If the next coach "only" gets us to the point where we win 9 games on a regular basis, that's a win. It may not be what everyone wants to hear, but it is.
Step 2 is assessing the coach who gets us to those consistent 9 win seasons. Can he get us further? Do we need to make a move again? At least if we make another move at that point, we still have an improved culture, better players and are a desirable destination again.
A home run would be great, but let's put the ball in play consistently first.
I totally agree. I just didn’t see anything from him that blew me away. His offense was mediocre every season after nick marshall. He’d do well here, which would be an incredible step up from what we are now.Malzahn would have a easier path to the SEC Championship in the East vs playing in the West every year. Plus, he had 3 wins against Bama during his time at Auburn. I'm confident he can compete with Kirby and Mullen and won't lose at home to Kentucky by 27 points. I'll be more than happy to have Malzahn at UT.
Unfortunately we missed out on those options last time around. I don't see them available time. IMOI agree with much of what
Your saying; however Tennessee is in bad spot. Years, and years of struggling, bad hiring and firing, and possibly looming NCAA violations.
For once......Tennessee must look beyond “realistic”.......and go for it and get it done.
If we were going to be OK with “decent” we should have simply kept Butch......seriously.
Gus is a better coach.....don’t get me wrong. However Tennessee has been given a gift this Christmas......don’t squander it on “decent”.......or on “realistic”......at some point your going to have to swing big......over pay.......and land something “better.”
Now is the time.
Would be more than OK with Campbell.I really don’t understand the Freeze love. His record at Ole Miss was subpar and he’s only a hot commodity right now because he’s doing great things at Liberty. But Liberty isn’t the SEC, so what exactly makes everyone think he’d come in here an turn things around?
Personally I’m a Campbell guy. To do what he’s done at Iowa State is impressive; and he’s doing it against much stronger opponents than Liberty’s.
