He also had to play GA, AL, LSU and A&M on a yearly basis. Here, he would only have 2 of those 4 on an annual basis

Malzahn would have a easier path to the SEC Championship in the East vs playing in the West every year. Plus, he had 3 wins against Bama during his time at Auburn. I'm confident he can compete with Kirby and Mullen and won't lose at home to Kentucky by 27 points. I'll be more than happy to have Malzahn at UT.

Gus got beat by Pruitt- No thanks
Lane had us in trouble with the NCAA- No thanks
Freeze prior NCAA trouble - Maybe
Stoops retired - yes maybe Phil can talk him into it
Chadwell prior trouble NCAA No P5 experience- Maybe
My thoughts guess we will see in time

Almost any hire will give us hope, which is more than we have now.
That being said, you usually get what you pay for so don’t go the cheap route praying praying you get a diamond in the rough.......

More with less? Didn't he land huge recruiting classes with Tunsil, etc which had us all wondering how long it would take for sanctions to follow?

Over the past 7 seasons, he has had just 1 double digit win season, and he had lost at least 4 games in all 7 of those seasons.

Tennessee deserves better.
Are you people seriously content wanting better........but not as good as Auburn wants?

Sure, he would be much better than some......but if he’s your first choice.....or he is who you want........then I fear.......you just don’t want much.......prob the same who still had faith in Pruitt until hours ago and only lost the faith because he cheated.

Gus can't beat Ga. Freeze has beat the mighty Bama with a lot LESS talent. Imagine what he can do with the kind of talent he could get here. Would also be a more exciting team under Freeze.
Gus also lost to Pruitt in his first year. Kind of like hiring Butch after Dooley beat him

Yeah no thanks. He was spiraling down - has a personality about as sparkling as Pruitt's - there are 5 or 6 or 11 or 12 I would rather have.

Freeze is more likely to "Make It Rain" that is the main difference between him and Malzahn.

Yep that my thing with him is in his 8 years at Auburn he has not had success at developing QB. For me on our next HC that will be the one thing I won't most is a coach that can develop the quarterback and a really good passing offense. That why I like the idea of Steve Sarkisian because I think he could do that.

We have to be realistic about where we are, where we want to be and most importantly, how we can get there.

Step 1 has to be respectability. If the next coach "only" gets us to the point where we win 9 games on a regular basis, that's a win. It may not be what everyone wants to hear, but it is.

Step 2 is assessing the coach who gets us to those consistent 9 win seasons. Can he get us further? Do we need to make a move again? At least if we make another move at that point, we still have an improved culture, better players and are a desirable destination again.

A home run would be great, but let's put the ball in play consistently first.

If you love the "success" Auburn has had since 2014, just go hire Steele out from underneath them. That is the mastermind of thier slightly better than mediocre stretch.

It would be the most UT ever thing to not understand that and go pull Auburn's anchor out of the dumpster. I agree with that.

But they still win more than we do. I don't care how we win. I'll take a defensive juggernaut. I want stability and respectability first and foremost.

For the record...Gus isn't my #1 choice. I just see the benefits to having him here.
