Should I buy another PS2, XBOX, or wait until the next newest gaming system is released?

I just found my old Atari 2600 the other day along with those 8 tracks that the games were on. Nothing like a little Combat or Pong. :eek:lol:

So, can anyone actually get back on topic and help me find a cheap PS2 or XBOX?

Sorry for the digression. Have you tried any pawn shops? The rare times when I'm in them, I almost always see some kind of game system.

GAMER FREAK HERE!!!

Go with an XBOX old or new. They are so easy to hack. My current XBOX is now my portable entertainment center. I have replaced the 20gb hard drive with a 120gb hard drive so that I can store games and movies on it. Also they say you can't played backup games  on Xbox Live. Well thats true but there is also a XB Connect out there that is just like XBox Live allowing you to play your backup games. Plus its free!

Uh, is that hard to do?

Yes and no. A few months ago you had to open up the XBox to hack it (voiding the warrenty BTW), but know you can flash the bios with a Action Replay memory card and a select free old games which have the hole in them allowing this. One of the games is the 1st splinter cell not the greatest hits verison because the hole was found and fixed. You can have the modded XBox w/o the larger HD, but you can't store any games on it. By doing this it allows you to play your backup games
 on XB Connect. If you decide to replace the HD then it gets tricking. 99% of the time you will lose any saved games data. I will try to find some links tonight that will show you how to do this.

Also another positive for the XBox is better graphics w/ the Xbox High Definition AV Pack. You can get it for around $20 at Circuit City. Alot people won't admit it but the picture is better on the XBox.

PS2 still has the best looking game out there though. Gran Turismo 4.

Yes, you have to be pretty darned computer literate to hack an XBox. It is pretty difficult.

Go with DrRosenRosen's proposal. It's a really good deal.

If you want an XBOX setup, I can do that as well. Software hacks (like the one described above) are really simple to do with a memory and gameshark. I can get a fresh xbox modded in less than 10 minutes (20 if you want your HD backed up). Installing a bigger drive is a bit more tricky but can be accomplished. So, you'd be looking at $125 for a used xbox (give or take), and then a new HD for $40-$80 depending on size. Add some labor and you're looking around $200. Not that I condone stealing, but you'd be able to rent a game, go home and hit a couple buttons on your xbox and store the game on the HD. Return the game an hour later and play forever.

Just throwing out some ideas.

Email me if you want to discuss any of this. I'm not hardcore, but obviously I have a modded XBOX and an old school modded PS2. The PS2 only runs CD rips with a gameswap technique so I didn't mention that capability. Works like new if you didn't know it was modded. PS2 games are usually pretty cheap nowdays that it doesn't really matter.

As far as the PS2 there is now a much better than swiping. Try HDAdvance it allows you to store games on a HD. I put a 120gb in my PS2 and the setup is very very simple. You can be done in under 10 mins if that.

DrRosen, my buddys son had something just like that where he stuck a game in and it worked that simple.

I am VERY interested in that, especially with a HD but I got to be honest.

Is it tough to copy games and do all those things on the XBOX?

I consider myself pretty up to date with technology but I dont want things I can't even use

Copying the games over are as easy as clicking a button.

The only problem is putting a new drive in there. To be honest, that is the only thing I haven't personally done. Modding it to play copied games is very simple. (even Freak can do that) Once you have a new HD in there and you have a game you want to copy, it's a matter of pressing a few buttons on the controller...very easy. I've read a new HD swap isn't that hard, it's just I haven't done it personally since all the mods I've done for folks just play games off DVDR.

Now, if you're a little tech savy, you can just make copies of the games onto DVDR. (DVD writer if you don't have one is roughly $50-$60 nowdays) I say tech savy because you end up putting the xbox on your network and then ripping the game disc across your network. Work involved is hooking up your xbox to your router and loading a little piece of software on your computer. Computer DVD drives cannot read the discs, so it has to be done in the XBOX.

Going with the copy method, you're looking at 10 minutes to rip the disc to your computer, 10 minutes to create an ISO from the files, and 10 minutes to burn (very rough estimates, probably on the long side). Again, this might sound complex, but it's really not and ends up being just a few mouse clicks.

If you are going this route, I suggest you buy a used XBOX. New units on the shelves a bit different and could cause problems. From there, let me (or one or two other members here) know that you need it modded. I can set it up without a new HD in 10 minutes.

You got a DVD writer and router? Think you'd be comfy hooking it up to your network? It's not all that hard and I could walk you through copying games by phone given that you have all the parts.

Again, I do not condone piracy or theft. I just read a lot and help out degenerate friends. ;)

Haha... I was thinking tougher hacks. A friend I used to play Halo with used to download stuff for Halo 2 from an FTP server and used my house's wireless system to hack into our wireless XBox router and downloaded material on to his HD. The kid has no life.

I went this route the first go around and as he mention it is very time consuming. So spend the few extra dollars and get a HD you won't regret it. Or here is a pre-modded XBoxhttp://www.modchipstore.com/Premodified-Cr...anel-16263.html Kinda high though.

Here's a couple modded XBOX I ran across. This is a very reliable forum site and I've bought many things off here with absolutely no problems. (bought both my xbox and ps2 here as well as various comp parts)

link 2

If you look through the FS/FT forum, you'll probably find others.
